Newcastle won this game this afternoon in injury time, with the winner coming from Jonas Gutierrez as Newcastle fought their way back from being 1-0 down at the break.
But it was the great Ben Arfa who Newcastle have to thank as he scored a wonderful goal just 20 minutes from time to equalize the scores, after Goodwillie had put Backburn ahead ahead after 35 minutes and Rovers were still 1-0 up at the break.
Ben Arfa hit home a brilliant left footed shot high into the back of the net after a mazy run from inside his own half, for his second goal of the season, as he levelled the scores at 1-1.
And then Jonas Guttierrez hit home the winner deep into added time to get Newcastle’s second win in four days at home.
But Newcastle, as so often happens after such a sterling display on Wednesday night found it difficult to get going this afternoon, and certainly they looked a little lethargic in that first half.
But Blackburn could have been behind in the first 10 minutes of the game, as goalkeeper Bunn had to make two saves from both Leon Best and Jonas Gutierrez, and then Ben Arfa set up French colleague Yohan Cabaye, who mishit his shot.
And then it was a poor goal for Newcastle to concede, as goalkeeper Tim Krul couldn’t hold Grant Hanley’s header and only palmed it away, and it was David Goodwillie who forced the ball over the line to put Blackburn into the lead after 35 minutes.
The first half was pretty tame stuff and at the half time whistle Newcastle found themselves one goal down to the second bottom team in the Premier League, and the Magpies had not given a good account of themselves.
But in the second half Newcastle were able to step it up a gear, with the timely introduction of Ryan Taylor and Shola Ameobi before the hour mark.
Both players were were surprisingly left out of the starting eleven after they had both had more than decent games against Manchester United.
And Ryan Taylor had an immediate impact on the game, as he put over a wonderful cross and somehow Gutierrez, who was unmarked, missed the ball completely.
Ben Arfa after 70 minutes proved yet again he is a cut above most players, and he gave Newcastle what they desperately needed – an equalizer – and what a goal it was from the mercurial French International.
The 24-year-old got the ball inside his own half, and then he went straight forward towards the Blackburn goal and beat two Blackburn defenders on the way.
And then the Frenchman got the ball onto that left foot of his, and hit a wonderful shot with great technique into the back of the net for Newcastle’s equalizer – what a goal!
Ben Arfa puts the ball home for a brilliant individual goal
It will be a candidate for the goal of the season and if this lad was ever short of confidence then this goal will give him loads of it, and we assume French manager Laurent Blanc will be seeing what this lad is doing at Newcastle.
And the goal seemed to pull Newcastle back from the brink, and then towards the end of the game the Magpies went all out for the winner.
And to finish off what has been a great week for the Newcastle United club, it was Jonas Gutierrez who got his second goal of the season and the winner just before the final whistle.
Both Williamson and Ameobi had gone close to scoring with good efforts.
Then in the fifth minute of added time there was great play between Leon Best and Jonas and it was finished off in style when the Argentine International put a wonderful chip over Blackburn goalkeeper Bunn and into the back of the net with the last kick of the game.
The Geordie crowd went wild.
Ben Arfa celebrates after goal of the season
And yes today the lads had a little bit of luck – so it’s evening itself out – thank goodness! 😀
And for the second time in four days (or is it three?) Newcastle scored two wonderful goals to win the game – and we are on our way in the FA Cup!
It’s sometimes difficult coming down after such a historic win on Wednesday evening, but our lads got the job done this afternoon, and showed their professionalism and great team spirit once again.
Howay the Lads!!

Comment #82man, this post has been reinvigorated! I’m sorry, i can’t let this go, it’s just too much fun…
tony, do you want to go shopping together until we drop? maybe stop for some tea and biscuits if we need a rest? This could be the beginning of a lifelong friendship. I love you, Tonytoon73! I’ve always had a thing for older, underdeveloped men!

Comment #83Just on to say that tonytoon73 is in no way related to my good friend Tony Toon 🙂 who posts regularly on one or 2 other blogs and is strongly opposed to barracking any Newcastle players. Booing can have no positive effect on the player or team so if you want to hand an advantage to opposition then carry on with your nonsense TT73.

c’mon, son. I’m in Miami Beach this week, I’ll be in NYC for the rest of the month come next week, after that i’ll be swinging through to catch a match or two and then off to Budapest and then Alexandria. where would you like to meet? the shopping’s great on Andrassy Utca in BP, we could also soak up the sun hand-in-hand on the Mediterranean…if your mom can’t drive you all the way maybe we could meet up somewhere halfway…have a brief lover’s sojourn in Geneva or somewhere. You’d probably dig Hamburg, lots of Euro bears waiting there for ya. Let’s do this, mi amor!

Comment #87Yes Tonytoon, but at least he can/has still read a book.
The fact that you mentioned ‘the good old days’ of Newcastle v West Ham hooligan fights shows what a circumstantial, enabling force Newcastle United is for you- it’s merely something for you to vent with and maybe (hopefully) get in a fight for.

Comment #89….and just so you know, tonytoon40, threatening on the internet is just as bad as in person nowadays.
i’m half tempted to report you solely based on the fact that one less knob like you would be capable of booing MY TEAM off the pitch.

I grew up in the US if that’s what your asking….my mom is from Kiev my father from Florence. I’ve got a strikingly good looking mix of eastern european and roman features in my face. i’m sure you’d love me if you just would give me the chance….
and i live in Budapest, where you’re always welcome in my beautiful flat overlooking the Danube. I could make you Goulash and we could drink some majestic Bull’s Blood from Eger overlooking the Buda Castle. It would be something special, indeed

Comment #95Just back from the match. I normally stick up for ober but he was poor today. He was played as a 2nd striker with best. Hba was on the wing but hba spent more time on the inside. Ober just doesnt no when to pass. 2nd half we were much better and I swear hba beat all 11 players to score. Abied look good and cabaye played well. Pardew must have thought ober was crap also as he took him off for strolla who did more on first 5 mins. I didnt hear any booing for ober, just silence

Opinions generally start with “in my opinion” or “ I think” whereas you make what can only be read as statements as in “he is this “ or “he is that” and the quality of those “statements” make you look like a half wit.
Your response at # 43 to matty makes you look like a knuckle dragger, and in reality keyboard warriors and keyboard bullies are generally seen as nothing but bellends, and that is the truth.
Although you may well have lots of swear words and threats for me after this post it will not change the fact that, that this is how you are perceived.
To boo and barrack one of your own players because they are not playing up to your perceived standard shows a distinct lack of class and it is this lack of class that people regularly bring up when they are talking about deluded NUFC supporters.
Now you must understand these are just my opinions. (although most are in fact facts)
