Newcastle At Brighton Or Wrexham In 4th Round Of FA Cup

Newcastle United were the second club out of the hat this afternoon,  and we are drawn against Wrexham or Brighton away in the 4th round of the FA Cup .

Sunderland are drawn at home to Middlesbrough, and the three  northeast teams were in the first four drawn out of the hat.

It may be a tricky draw when you think what happened to us at Stevenage last year, but the draw could have been much tougher.

Wrexham held Brighton to a 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium yesterday and are top of the Blue Square Bet Premier League of the Football Conference.

Brighton are in the Championship and are in 13th place with 35 points from their 25 games and are 9 points above the drop zone.

Liverpool drew Manchester United at home, so that’s good because at least one of the teams above Newcastle in the Premier League will be knocked out before the 5th round.

Of course that will mean nothing if we cannot get through the 4th round.

Other Premier League teams drawn together were West Brom vs Norwich, Everton vs Fulham and if Arsenal beat Leeds tomorrow night they are at home to Aston Villa.

FA Cup fourth-round draw in full:

Brighton or Wrexham v Newcastle
Sunderland v Middlesbrough
Dagenham & Redbridge v Southampton
Hull City v Crawley
MK Dons or QPR v Chelsea
West Brom v Norwich
Blackpool v Sheffield Wednesday
Arsenal or Leeds v Aston Villa
Stevenage v Notts County
Watford v Tottenham
Liverpool v Manchester United
Derby v Stoke City
Everton v Fulham
Macclesfield or Bolton v Swansea
Sheffield United v Birmingham or Wolves
Nottingham Forest or Leicester v Swindon

The ties are to be played on the weekend of 28-29 January so we will still be without Cheick Tiote and Demba Ba.

Comments welcome.

I see that Gaël Kakuta is joining Dijon on loan from Chelsea for the rest of the season, does that free up our target Benjamin Corgnet

Rather play Brighton. Worse the team the worse we play.

QPR, Chelsea, Norwich, WBA, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Man Utd, Everton, Fulham, Bolton, Swansea.
Half of those teams WILL leave the competition, that’s great news for us 🙂 And atleast 1 of the top 6 will leave yet again.

That was my first though Dannyo. Poyet doing good down there so I think I’d prefer Wrexham but then again who has the better pitch……………….

I think it’s a great draw. If Pardew and the lads are really serious about giving the FA Cup a go, this match (despite our problems against lower league opponents) shouldn’t be a problem. Field a strong team and win the game by a few goals at least.

wouldn’t read too much into tomkins on the bench, my mate was at the game said west ham put out a completely weakened team from usual.. concentrating on the league

think it’s a good draw, bit worried about it being away though. probably prefer brighton because of the standard of pitch but think we’ll have learned from stevenage last yr so we should go through

I have to think with that draw it gives us an amazing opportunity to progress and hopefully with any luck we get a small team in the next round again.

Also its very refreshing to see liverpool taking up the back pages for all the reasons newcastle used to be there for… noting to do with football 🙂 Long may it continue!!!

Defs prefer Brighton. New stadium with no intimidating atmosphere and a quality pitch. They’re in pretty bad form since their start losing 4 of their last 5 league games. If we get Wrexham the whole town will come out and the whole country will look for us to slip up. They’ll probs plough the pitch before the match as wel! I was at Stevenage in 1998 and last year- two of the most nerve wracking and unenjoyable footballing days of my life! I don’t want a repeat.

I Thomkins was on the bench, does that not mean he’s cup tied anyway?

I’m pretty sure just being registered in the squad cup ties you :/

Good draw for us by all accounts, a lot of EPL teams drawn against each other. As Ed said, it could have been a lot worse

that wouldn’t surprise me the whole switching agents is very convenient – either he’s on the move or he’s getting a bigger pay rise on a new deal.

he comes from the town near mine (basildon) all my west ham mates rave about him
