Newcastle Again Linked With Crystal Palace Defender

Alan Pardew has said that Newcastle are looking at some young England based defenders in the January transfer window.

Nathanial Clyne – Newcastle interest in 20 year-old right back

Alan also said that the players coming in would be young and wouldn’t necessarily command a first team place immediately at Newcastle.

So that could mean that the center-back coming in this month could be Sheffield United’s 18 year-old Harry Maguire and Brighton’s 20 year-old Lewis Dunk.

Newcastle have been linked today in the Daily Mail with Crystal Palace right-back Nathaniel Clyne, and this is not the first time we’ve been linked with the 20 year-old.

Nathanial is an England u21 international (2 caps) and he has played 123 times for Palace after making his debut in a league game back in October of 2008 against Barnsley.

The player is rated at around £3M and Newcastle scouts will likely be at Tuesday’s Carling Cup semi-final first-leg, against Cardiff City,  to check the player out.

And the lad has only 6 months left on his Palace contract so we doubt he would cost £3M, when he will become a free agent in the summer.

Clyne is said to be a very quiet lad, and last season he became the youngest player in the football league to play every single game of the season, and that bodes well because it means he doesn’t pick up too many injuries.

The news over the weekend was that Newcastle have offered their current right back Danny Simpson a new deal, and he is said to be close to signing it.

So it may be that Clyne will be brought in to push Danny for the starting right-back spot at Newcastle, as we try to build up our squad strength.

The priority for Newcastle in this transfer window is a center-back and a striker,  so we’d be a little surprised if Newcastle signed Nathaniel in January, but he could arrive through the door at Newcastle in the summer.

As far as we can tell this lad looks like a very good player in the making, and for nothing as a free agent, he would be a really good acquisition.

What do you think?

Love it if we sign Clyne

    Clyne – £2million
    Maguire/Dunk – £2.5million
    Rhodes – £4.5million + Fergie on loan

If BA didn’t have that release clause, how much could we actually get for him? Really would like to see Mbiwa here but not too sure about this lad Clyne.

Lets hope we don’t send John Carver to do the scouting otherwise the lad is bound to get injured or sent off in the first 10 minutes 🙂

I just HAVE to comment on the video comparing HBA and Maradona. I know i’m standing in a glas house saying this, and people will rightly assume im biased.
But comparing the two goals objectivly, HBA is far better. Mardona beats 4 people including the keeper, he’s given lots of space and it’s quite poor defending.

HBA had 3 players ON TOP of him, 2 of them stuck to him the entire run and one was straight infront of him for a couple of yards. He kept the ball allot closer and dribbled, he didn’t run, he dribbled his way through.

Will be goal of the year for me, even tho it’s early, that goal IS BETTER than Maradonas.

I saw that, but surely the lad has bigger ambition than going to relegation rivals? If the bid is accepted, i think he’ll say no.

I know Rhodes is on fire right now,but how about Paul Taylor from Peterborough.

I watched the game yesterday against Sunderland, all i can say about Taylor is that he is typical Bellamy type of player, lighning fast, good finisher, and he is 1 league above Rhodes.

Dannyo – Because Ben Arfa plays for us and not one of the big boys the goals probably wont be considered for Goal of the season or anything….Also ayee a would hope he rejected them would be a stupid career move if he went to Bolton.. if he didnt come to us a would like someone like Everton to get him cos a feel sorry for Moyes hes a class manager but hes never had a chance to really spend some money and bring in players he really wants and they never really relegation threatened always challenging top 10

A full week into the window now and a defender still hasn’t been brought in,I think this proves that if STaylor hadnt of gotten injured that Maiga was the only one coming in this window leaving us vunerable at the back and relying on luck for the rest of the season,MA’s recruiting policy is like a game of blackjack to him.

About Ben Arfa’s goal is very simple.
If that kind of goal was scores on PES or FIFA even there would have been a candidate for a goal of the year,,,never mind in real life.

HBA’s is a great goal – one of the best at SJP for a long time- but Diego’s is class, in a World Cup Quarter Final at the Azteca and against the best we had to offer at the time.
Respect your non-accountancy opinions but maybe you got a little carried away?

I believe you score some good goals and i’ve seen some clips on youtube regarding some fantastic goals.
But to dribble your way inside the 6 yard box and shoot the ball under the crossbar above the goalkeeper,,so far i havent seen anyone do it.
Ou and btw i play PES and WE since 1998 and so far i’ve scored all kinds of goals but nothing like that.

Lol, i won’t say HBA is a better player, but technically, like Pardew said, that is the best goal i have ever seen. And yes, after a goal like that, no doubt i will get carried away, lol. I will continue to show this and Maradonas goal to other people, then i’ll get back to u 😛

    @Jail
No “too good for MA” jokes today? 🙁 You might be right mate, but could be there was like £2 mill left to buy an up and coming CB, now we’ve rather switched focus to a more established CB instead maybe and the striker has lessened in priority? We’ll find out i guess when the window closes.

    @GT89
Should we at some point lose AP, i’d want Moyes to step up, he’s good at working under financial constraints, but imo, we’re not as constrained here, cause the club is not in a financial mess, like Everton.

“Join PSG? Yeah, why not? It’s possible,” he told RMC. “I have always supported PSG. And it’s an attractive club.

“But it will be difficult to do that in January. I’m in Newcastle and the fans like me. The transfer market will be closed when I return from the CAN [Africa Cup of Nations], so I won’t focus on it.

so, hes off in summer.. i cant believe how many problems..every goddamn season..

It’s technically comparable with Maradonna 86 and Messi’s finest, but because of the fact it was scored in an unfancied, windswept, FA Cup 3rd round cup tie against weakened and demoralised opposition – away form the TV cameras, it will remain a collector’s piece – albeit unfairly from a technical perspective.

The Ba release clause talk has me worried. The thought of him going to Liverpool or some other premiership side for peanuts is miserable. I imagine Kenny would see it as them getting their own back for the £35m on a dud. I hope we are doing everything possible to tie Ba down to a new bumper deal.

As the goal was scored in the FA cup which is covered by ITV and ESPN I’m not sure it is eligble for the normal goal of the month/season competitions.
Alex84 – As Ba was on a pay per game basis then a clause like this is quite usual so that if it it does not work out and he is not getting games then he has an option to go elsewhere. So it is not really a question of loyalty – when you think about it because of his knee it was quite an astute thing to do by Newcastle! Who could have predicted the sensational first half of the season he has had.

Well, looks likke we’re losing Ba this January then, cheers Harry!

Can’t believe we’ve either added such a low release clause, or allowed Ba to add it himself, doesnt seem like the MA way to do business.

We should be doing everything possible now to sign him onto a new contract either without the clause or with a much higher fee involved.

Ba is the most exciting striker we’ve had since Shearer and I really dont want us to lose him.

@Martoon – how do you know Ba is on a pay per game contract, i havent seen anything like that before. Surely with a few clubs interested in the summer he would’ve went to the best contract offer and other clubs would have offered him a garunteed wage rather than pay per game?

On HBA’s goal, its one of the best ive ever seen without a doubt. Maybe switch him to the wing more permanently in place of Obertan?

Why is everyone going on about Ba contract clause.

Loads of stories have hinted towards it being the same as his West Ham clause which was only applicable if the club were relegated. Thats not going to happen so theres nothing to worry about.

Do you think for one minute if the clause was purely an offer of 5 million that someone would not have already done the deal on Jan 1st.

To ITV’s defense regarding not showing a lot of highlights from the FA Cup game. I saw the highlights on the official NUFC site and I think it was just one camera there. It’s most likely the same camera and crew they use for all NUFC tv stuff, filming reserves matches etc.

I thought it was some good highlights. The slow-motion is very jittery though, as the footage has been “forced” slow. Two man wrecking crew with one cameraman and a commentator. 🙂

HBA started his run even further back than the footage out there is shown too.

Had it been a high quality TV production with super slow-motion, multiple angles etc, it might have been shown more.

The clip’s already probably got close to half a million hits on youtube altogether.. Brill stuff.

On the Ba clause I dont see why people are blaming Rednapp he just answered a question and if Harry wanted him why would he mention it the clause? It only invites competition for his signature

I would hate to lose Ba specially in a January window but I dont see that happening this season. His form is bang on but he is African (so misses a fair few games for the ACoN) and has a dodgy knee so that rules out a fair few of the bigger guns wanting him imo
