Newcastle are still said to be interested in Crystal Palace striker/winger Wilfried Zaha.
Wilfied Zaha – Newcastle still interested
Zaha was in action again last night in Crystal Palaces’ 1-0 first-leg semi-final win over Cardiff City in London, but another player interesting Newcastle – 20 year-old right back Nathaniel Clyne – was not playing as he was one of about five or six Palace players who had gone down with a mysterious virus over the last few days.
But Newcastle may have their bid interrupted if Palace get to the Carling Cup final against either Manchester City or Liverpool, who play their first leg tonight.
That’s because Zaha is a top player for the London side, and they would hardly sell him in January, if the reach the Wembley final.
Newcastle are becoming a top club for youngsters these days, and the Magpies will do very well if they can get the 19 year-old to Tyneside, with other clubs also interested in the player.
Zaha is said to be valued at £4M by The Eagles and the youngster has 5 goals and 4 assists this season in his 30 appearances for Crystal Palace, and while he obviously is still developing, he looks a top talent for his age.
Wilfried was born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in 1992 and started his career at his home town club ASEC Mimosas.
He has already represented the England U19 side twice, making his debut against Germany last February, and he made his debut for Crystal Palace at home to Cardiff City in March of 2010 when he was just 17.
If Newcastle can lodge a decent bid for Zaha, that would benefit Crystal Palace, who only went into administration a short two years ago.
But this is what their 37 year-old Scottish manager Dougie Freedman had to say in late December about his young star potentially joining Newcastle:
“Wilfried is better than a Newcastle. I know the chairman won’t accept four, five or six million pounds and that rules out a lot of clubs.”
“If you’re talking eight, nine or 10 then who is going to pay that? That is the top five or six in the Premier League.”
There’s just no way Palace will get any more than around £6M for their player, if that, but they can always dream – which is what Dougie is doing in that statement above.
For the record Wilfried Zaha has 74 appearances for Crystal Palace with 6 goals, and the Evening Chronicle is reporting today that the lad likes the idea of coming to Newcastle.
That sounds good – if it’s true.

Comment #2The Mayans prophecised the end of the world in 2012 and if you read the prophecy itself it is very interesting. Here is the translation:
‘When the French revoloution sees the Magpie perch on top of the world fire from the heavens will rain down an apocolypse on all. None shall escape but the name of Saint Pardew will live forever.”

Comment #6This is an idea for a good debate. What would you prefer?:
Newcastle to go unbeaten at the start of the 2012-2013 season, winning every game until December, get bought out by a billionaire who promises to bring the worlds best to the newly renamed St James Park, we sign Carroll for £10 million and pay him £100 000 PW to clean the boots of Ba and then, just as half time approaches wnd we are beating the mackams 6-0 the World ends!
OR
Newcastle to be in a similar position as to now, we panic over who we may sell, wonder who it is we may bring in but we ultimatley enjoy the ride of the rollercoaster and remain ever hopefull over the future and it is a future we can witness as the World deosn’t end.

Comment #7He provided a good outlet for Palace against Cardiff. They had 10 men behind the ball and allowed Zaha to just ran at and past as many defenders as possible. The only option Cardiff had was to foul him.
Could be a good purchase but what sort of money are we talking about for him? I think £6million + could be used better elsewhere at the present time.

Comment #25Lots of my mates down hear follow palace they would all be gutted to see clyne and zaha go however they would inderstand clyne going as the lad has been mint for them but feel he really deserves to be in the top flight and is ready to make the jump however they all think zaha is def not ready yet bit of a 1 trick pony and needs to kearn to read the game better in regards as to when to make runs, pass and on the whole be alot less greedy on the ball they think if he went he could be a bit if a bostock ( bostock was a promising young midlfielder who orrible arry redknapp engineered a move for thru the lads dad and has basically de railed the lads devolopment/career big time)

Comment #31Indian Magpie @ 20, none of us know what Branson (spelt it right) has in his sponsorship contract. But you can guaranty he’ll want high power advertising. Which he won’t get if we are just a mid-table club.
