Newcastle Close To Signing Top Algerian Midfielder

6:21 pm, Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 319 Comments

News today that Newcastle are after another one of Lens’ top young players.

Abdelhakim Omrani – 20 year-old Algerian midfilder

Mehdi Abeid arrived on a free transfer last summer and the 19 year-old Algerian U23 player now looks like a player of the future for Newcastle United ,  and he played well last Saturday against Blackburn, when he started in place of Cheick Tiote, who is off playing for the Ivory Coast in Africa.

Newcastle will continue to bring in top youngsters to the club and most of those could come from French clubs, and there is news today that Newcastle have their eyes on 20 year-old  Lens midfielder Abdelhakim Omrani.

The Algerian 6’2″  attacking midfielder is at Lens and like Mehdi Abeid, was born in France (in Freyming-Merlebach) of Algerian parents.

Omrani began his career playing for French club Metz back in 2002,  and then he moved to Nancy in 2005 before joining Lens in 2007, and he made his debut for Lens  against Angers back in March of 2009.

Omrani has played for the French U19 side and like Abeid he elected to play for Algeria, and last September he was called up to the Algerian Under-23 National Team for the four day training camp at Sidi Moussa, that Newcastle’s Mehdi Abeid also attended.

Omrani is rated as one of the best young talents in France and almost moved to German club  Bayern Munich last summer, but it seems that Newcastle may be one the verge of  acquiring the youngster, who turns 21 next month.

There are reports in the French Daily, L’Equipe,  that Omrani is having a trial with Newcastle right now, and a decision will be made by the end of the week whether Newcastle will sign the youngster.

This all sounds very good to us.

L’Equipe is also reporting that Danny Situ, who had a trial with Newcastle last summer,  signed for Swansea City yesterday.

We’re not sure why Newcastle didn’t snap up Danny, as he looked a very good up-and-coming center-back.

Comments welcome.

This is a completely misunderstood article.
This is a lad who was a trial at Bayern, then he was at our place, in December/January.
Now he’s being thought on, but focus is elsewhere. This was in the journal earlier today, and the same thing has also been said by NUFCFans on twitter.

i think we must bring in more young striker s than mid fielders

gud to se us scouring europe for talent, but it doesnt really help the fact that the first team squad is sadly lacking if a couple of key injuries happen, hope these things arnt smokescreen for a lack of activity over the coming month, the boy hasnt even made lens first team this year.
Abeid has done OK, but he is in a decent side currently and babysat by cabaye at the weekend, seems like he needs to lose a bit of puppy fat to me, abit behind Vuckic IMO lets hope his pal come through and does the business.

Can never have enough quality young players looking to break through

  • 7 GeordieGerman // Jan 11, 2012 at 6:41 PM

After a bit of Googleing. Looks as if Islam is fitting into the the start of 2012-2013 season.

“The Football League yesterday re-iterated its support for the London 2012 Olympics by re-confirming that the start of the 2012-2013 season will be delayed.
With current member clubs like Coventry City staging twelve matches in the Olympic tournament and the police not wanting football fans in London and the South East travelling to games impeding on those trying to get to the Olympic Stadium, the Football League re-confirmed the news that the 2012/2013 season will not start until August 18th 2012.”

Hasn’t this story already been established as another rehash of old rumours. Just cos there’s no new stuff doesnt mean we have to listen to the old tripe. Anyway, when’s Carroll due back in Newcastle for the QPR Game?

As Dannyo said this is a non starter, apparently he has already been on trial with us and nothing happened as a result.

  • 23 Scottishtoon95 // Jan 11, 2012 at 6:58 PM

Where in midfield does he play / what type of player is he (how does he play)?

now THIS is what gets me really excited, young prospects looking to establish themselves.

sucks we couldn’t get DARNEL situ (think ed’s been calling him danny/daniel since the summer). heard all the rumours why but that’s exactly what they are and no one knows why really. Think Situ will be a force to be reckoned with in a few years time

anywho, above all our other transfer dealings if we keep up with this, it’s comforting to know when we do ship on first teamers for hefty profits, we’ll hopefully have a young, talented kid who’s about ready to step in

  • 25 GeordieGerman // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:00 PM

don’t really know what to believe. I honestly can’t believe the tripe Lee Ryder spouts on the chronicle. it’s pretty much common knowledge that he’s in the know about as much as that cwarr colin cat and just about anyone who comes on here claiming to have insider knowledge

  • 28 JackButler // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:06 PM

Its not going to happen but would love big Andy to come back, nowt better than a geordie number nine bullying opposition centre halfs, he’ll be back, free transfer in two/three years time, will still only be turning 26 when hes looking for his next contract, i dont know, it was all a bit disapointing when he lef, even for 35 mil.

  • 34 Dannyo // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:14 PM

    @mattynufc
Oh u cannot compare Lee Ryder to Colin mate, that’s way too harsh. Colin just checks the bookies and goes after that.
Ryder is a local lad atleast, who is a journo. Atleast he makes the phonecall and asks the question, never in a million years do Cwarr do that.

About Lee Ryder, why do u mention him in your post btw?

im off after this one but just have to say

whyohwhy would anyone want Carroll back? is it sentiment? what is it? because i reckon alot of folks must not have seen him play much this year.

i even heard an argument that “maybe his hearts not in it with pool and he just needs to come home” bullsh***. If you were the most expensive englishman in the history of sport would you give up and say you wanna go back home after a year? get real…..the problem is he’s crap and he knows it

  • 41 JackButler // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:25 PM

Carrol and Ba would terrify every defence in the league but I would not want it at the expense of playing long ball football. Can’t handle watching Stoke on MoTD.

  • 42 mattyNUFC // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:25 PM

    check the toastie

short memories? no, tbf i was taken aback by how well carroll was doing and really thought it was only a matter of time before his form dipped again. After his england cap i started to become a believer but this year and especially that atrocity he called an outing against us just proved to me he can’t hack it.

he’s got an awful touch, his mobility is limited by his cumbersome frame, he’s no right foot and is the posterboy for sam allardyce football. did i mention his touch?

i don’t think it’s that i have a short memory, not at all. I think it’s that for the first time since Roeder days are we watching the kind of football (ok, before manu didn’t happen much this year, only in spurts) that is a privelage to watch. that’s why everyone loves barca….they play beautiful football, they play with the ball on the ground. It’s artwork, man, the field’s their canvass to get too cheesy for you but it’s true. I don’t like crap football and yes, i am mildly critical of pardew’s tactics and if we got carroll back any passing game would be quashed for the sake of carrolls thick head. am i wrong?

Would not want Carrol back at the expense of playing good football

  • 44 mattyNUFC // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:28 PM

also, for the record, i’d rather lose and play good football (3-0 reverse this year v chelsea, draw v swansea) than win and have to watch sh!t football all year (bolton, sunderland, everton, west brom (didn’t win but still), arsenal)

  • 45 JackButler // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:31 PM

We’ve got the players to play good football now,we have to add to that and use it to the max. I’m not asking for Barca in the North East but a team that passes well and plays good football

  • 46 check the toastie // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:31 PM

matty NUFC see previous comment, dont think he deserves the shit hes been getting, did a good honest job for us put some class effort in, and i think slating the lad is a bit poor. When we start playing like Barcelona i may agree with you, but so far we would have had more points with him in our team.

  • 47 seantoon // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:33 PM

I’m not too sure about this guy. You’d expect a player of his age to be playing in the starting 11 of a team like lens in ligue2 if he’s going to be at least good enough for us

  • 48 catchy in norway // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:33 PM

id like us to sign some players around 25 to 28, that have a product to offer, not just players for the future

  • 49 mattyNUFC // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:34 PM

    JB

exactly mate. I don’t like to admit it but the simple truth was our second game this season we were played off the field against sunderland and they were playing GOOD football. After Gyan nailed the crossbar I knew we had a chance and it just wasn’t their day but it was frightening then to see our nearsighted tactics in that match. I think we’re steadily improving and we’ve got time. I think we’ll get there. like you said, a few more additions and holding onto pass-oriented players like santon, ba, cabaye, colo, and HBA and we’ll be not too far off

  • 50 davybtoon // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:34 PM

check thats not true saying we wud hav more points with carroll in the team bcoz weve got more points than we did this time last season when we had carroll

  • 51 check the toastie // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:35 PM

Matty NUFC Hated watching us beat Sunderland last year 5-1, most goals setup or indirectly made by the lad, long ball football like stoke it wasnt, exciting it most certainly was, you can mix play up just like the man utd game and it is still good stuff to watch. Newcastle = Barcelona never in my life time get a grip, and swansea should have been walloped by us playing there attractive brand of football, (most clean sheets and not many goals at home this year by the way) exciting stuff.

  • 52 mattyNUFC // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:36 PM

    check,

to be fair it’s all conjecture as to where we’d be with Carroll. What if Ba had been sacrificed for Carroll’s incorporation? What if Ba wasn’t even signed at all?

    Now that’s scary to me

  • 53 davybtoon // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:37 PM

thats why we need erding he will b the perfect partner for ba

  • 54 Dannyo // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:38 PM

    @JB
I think we’re on our way to that, and with HBA on the field i think that’ll improve.
At the same time, i see Pardew trying different things quite often, so it could well be that even he is still finding his feet in a formation he likes with the football that suits us beeing played.
U can argue that Swansea are starting to find their feet now after half a season in the PL, but it took them nearly 20 games, and they’re still far from there, but i think they’ll survive and a little beyond that. They play the passing footy we want to play, but it could’ve cost them the PL status at the end of the season.

We still need to give AP a little time here, he needs to feel that NUFC is his, kinda, before he sets himself loose a bit.

  • 55 mattyNUFC // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:38 PM

    woooooooah! easy, lad!

did i say we were anything like Barca? No, i said that’s why so many people enjoy them, because they play the game right. excuse me, 1000 apologies for wanting our team to attempt to play the game the way it should be played, the reason behind its dubbing as “the beautiful game”

  • 56 catchy in norway // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:39 PM

Do people really think that if Carroll had played with Ba all season we wouldnt have done better than Ba/Best or Ba/Shola, oh no surely not, Carroll inthis team would be class, as long as the team dont play hoofball, like they have most this year by the way (blackburn, everton, wigan, west brom, bolton, and liverpool, stoke the list goes on)

mattyNUFC – Agree mate, without 100′s of mil to throw around we have to do it one player at a time while adding young players with potential who can be coached and educated like Saylor has been. I love nothing more than seeing a youngster come through the ranks and wear our shirt with pride

  • 60 mattyNUFC // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:40 PM

    and check,

saying swansea should have been whooped by us because they wanted to play attractive football is the most retarded comment i’ve heard all day. we were off that day, but their tactics and gameplan was the reason we DIDN”T win. we don’t deserve anything unless we earn it and swansea did not let us earn anything

  • 61 JackButler // Jan 11, 2012 at 7:44 PM

    Matty
Retarted nice classy touch, swansea are trying to play good football agreed, very commendable, pass, pass, pass, pass, pass lose the ball under pressure, wonder how long a nufc manager would last playing like that, you need the players to do it, currently we are getting there, however the point was previously we havent thus Carroll would have been useful, and he was a brave player for us last year, again you must have forgot about that.

Anyway looking forward to the rest of the season when we embrace the Dutch Total Football model of the seventies/mixed in with a bit of brazil in the Pele era with a bit of Barcelona style, should be good, just happy currently for Krul to pass to a full back now and then.

cos if you look at just stats, then 50 million for torres knowing what he can do, seemed a good price to, if you can ever call 50 mill for one person good lmao

  • 88 jakesome // Jan 11, 2012 at 8:20 PM

anyone watchin the citeh fool game.
i dont think ac has completed a pass so far, 10 million would be too steep

  • 89 check the toastie // Jan 11, 2012 at 8:20 PM

cant argue at the cash, the boy is limited and is certainly no 20 million pound player never mind 35 million, especially for liverpool, he may now be worth 10 if somebody can get him fit, just feel a bit sorry for him, even if he is earning 80K a week.

  • 90 check the toastie // Jan 11, 2012 at 8:23 PM

the boy is a shadow of the player of 12 months ago when he enjoyed torturing his current team, that left foot beauty he scored was class.

  • 95 nufc786 // Jan 11, 2012 at 8:45 PM

then again him not scoring for liverfool . nobody here is complaining

  • 97 Dannyo // Jan 11, 2012 at 8:48 PM

I think all the money Carroll has now and the life he’s got himself at a very young age has led him to become complacent. He plays the game without heart and gives up before he’s even begun.

  • 98 mattyNUFC // Jan 11, 2012 at 8:48 PM

    davyb

would like to think pardew will give ranger another chance

moreover would like to believe ranger’ll be deserving of that chance and that he gets his head on straight

carroll was an absolutley beast with us. he had a fire in his belly when he heard the roar of sjp and honour of nufc shirt but then going to liverfool to hear the scouser twirp aint good for a geordie lad…. plus he looks bad in red…

A think everyone calling Carroll sh*t now is pretty daft to be fair.. if youve watched him play you would realise Liverpool dont play the type of football needed for Carroll to bed in and really make a name for himself they never have played his style and probably never will.. Carroll and Suarez would be a great partnership but Kenny doesnt no how to use them.. they should play to Carrolls strengths and Suarez would also score alot more from Carrolls knock downs and flick ons… thats why if he came back to us he would defo score goals and would be scoring goals straight away cos we know how to use him.. only problem then it means playing sh*t football and then Ben Arfa and Cabaye will want to leave… BTW I dont want him back am just pointing out a few things as he is still a class young player with enormous potential

  • 105 nufc786 // Jan 11, 2012 at 9:00 PM

  • 108 2_goal_tino // Jan 11, 2012 at 9:06 PM

Completely agree about raw talent. At Ranger’s age, Carroll was nothing – we were desperate to offload him. I was one of the few Geordies to think he was over-rated while with us and got in a fair few arguments witht people on the way to away games about it. I’m not saying he isn’t better than best or shola but i never considered him to be our new shearer or to ever be worth more than 10million.

  • 109 darko // Jan 11, 2012 at 9:09 PM

Just watching man city v liverpool and their central midfields. I honestly think, even without the rose tinted glasses that Cabaye and Tiote are the best pair in the EPL. Maybe Modric and Parker but apart from them can’t think of any pair as good. Not talking individual players but pairs. We should defo build on that now.

  • 110 darko // Jan 11, 2012 at 9:16 PM

I always thought Carroll didn’t create anything for himself, unlike ba who does it all the time. He was also very slow, still is now. Mind when we beat the mackems 5-1, even though he didn’t score he was immense. We totally played to his strengths for 6 months and I wouldn’t want to go back to that now.

A dont get why we dont sign Prior on a 4 year deal and loan him out to the league 1 for 6month see how he does and if he does well and scores loads like a think he could then we can put him into championship for the 2nd half of the season which is a much bigger step and then see how he does and then when he comes to us at end of season he would have a year vital experience and then give him time with us and then atleast if he doesnt prove good enough for us we can easily sell him to a Championship team for like £1million and then that makes a massive profit, its a win win situation

So? Raylor is right footed and he was decent at LB because of it, RW players didnt know how to get past him as they couldnt cut in which tends to be how PL wingers play these days. Santon seems more than comfortable using both feet from what Ive seen of him. He benefits from being able to stop wingers cutting in and making crossing difficult.

End of the day if he is good enough to play LB for Inter then he is good enough to play LB for our black and white squad surely?

I got an argumetn with Joppadoni about this. Personaly i preffer to see Santon on the right. He would be more efficient forward there. But i admit he already done great job as LB.

In fact i’m really stuned by him. A future great player.

I’m afraid we’re dinosaurs stuck in yesteryear, how ever will our club move forward with fans that demand competition for places.

  • 200 GeordieToon89 // Jan 11, 2012 at 11:42 PM

tbh a think Santon will be better staying on the left as he can cut inside onto his right foot and have a few shots wereas he wont cut inside onto his left foot

  • 201 niafron // Jan 11, 2012 at 11:42 PM

Was useless to do a medical about Ba. everybody know about his Knee. Wich is in fact our best chance to keep him.

Many teams would hesitate before giving him a big contract.

  • 202 JackButler // Jan 11, 2012 at 11:43 PM

If you don’t have competitions for places you get lazy players, you need them to play for their places not be guaranteed it because we have no depth

  • 203 GeordieGerman // Jan 11, 2012 at 11:43 PM

niafron, I think they accepted the clause because of his knee. Just hope they put it right PDQ.

Jack, thought that may be the case. 2 divorces and still they don’t realize that NUFC is a 24 X 7 X 12 months.

Wich is precisely the problem in my point of view. A LB must be naturally atracted by the touch line, not by the center!

I don’t know if you readed some of my previous post about MOntpellier.

I told there’s a alot of good youngsters there, and Yanga M’biwa is definitively one of them.

He’s supposed to be the future CB of the french national team.

But you maybe also readed in my post what Louis Nicollin, Montpellier’s president said about Newcastle…

So, will be hard to make a deal with him. Anyway, Yanga M’biwa will probably not leave now. Maybe this summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson has described him as a “very, very talented boy” while Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has singled him out as the player to watch in 2012.

Morrison, who has played for England at under-16, under-17 and under-18 level, made his debut for United in October 2010 and had been expected to make his breakthrough this season.

Yet he is also a troubled character from a difficult background. He pleaded guilty to two counts of witness intimidation last year and was sentenced to a 12-month referral order and ordered to pay costs and compensation of £1,445.

He has also suffered from disciplinary problems at United, where the admiration for his talent is matched by frustration at his failure to consistently apply it by turning up to training.

It’s the curse of small clubs in France. Sochaux is well Known to be an excellent football school with an academy who produced alot of fine players.

But each they do a good season, their players got offers, they dream to leave the club for a bigger one, and they are in trouble.

So this season, they will simply try to survive, but they are used to that.

Why do we want Andy Carroll back? Seriously. He’s not very good. Errant passes. Trips over his own feet. Slow pace. Outworked by shorter players for headers. No guarantee at all that he will ever find his way back. Behavior issues. Let’s focus our attention elsewhere.

We ought to think about Brek Shea…American kid at FC Dallas. He’s going to be better than Clint Dempsey and he would be awfully cheap.

  • 301 Super Simmo Strikes Again // Jan 12, 2012 at 3:39 AM

Was just watching Fanzone on the tele (Not sure if they have this program in the UK), A mackem was on the line, and was talking about O’neil.

One thing he said was, If they won against us in March, O neil would immidietly gain legendary status. I almost pissed myself laughing so hard.

Ajax always bring new young talents and made them into superstars every year, like 1995 UCL winning team, Van der Vaart, Sneijder, Ibra, Suarez, and now Verthongen. Ajax bought them very cheap and very young, then sold them at very high prices and they still doing it until now. Their scouts and coaches are the key.
Seems like Ashley wants to do the same thing, beside it’s also much better financially. So..I said it before I’ll say it again, we are going to be “Ajax” of premier league. We all can see from our transfer policies, U26 and cheap.

  • 303 redondo77 // Jan 12, 2012 at 5:26 AM

We all can see that Krul, Tiote, Ba, Cabaye value will be going up around total 60-70m if we sold them and it cost us around 10m to sign them + wages will be around 20m max in total, so we will be making 40-50m profit. I think this is how Ashley thinks and he will be keep doing it and we will see lots of young talents and new exciting team every season. We will be chalenging top 6 every season, I hope.

If the new transfer system applies, we will be one of the strongest team in Europe.

Daily Mail…. what a poor, poor paper.
First off, this trial has already happened.
And Tavernier is not a midfielder….

  • 307 Indian Magpie // Jan 12, 2012 at 6:11 AM

    Danyo,

Tavernier has played wide right for wednesday and that is why his loan spell was not extended because NUFC dont want him there.

Other papers are also going on abt his trial. not making excuses still a poor paper

  • 308 Dannyo // Jan 12, 2012 at 6:16 AM

    @indian
Aye, i know that, but he’s still not a midfielder, he’s a fullback.
Could be that he’s held back partly due to that, and what if Simmo doesn’t recover from the shoulder injury?

  • 309 Indian Magpie // Jan 12, 2012 at 6:21 AM

    Danyo,

We have PERCH dont We, ;0

  • 311 Krul Blow // Jan 12, 2012 at 6:41 AM

After Joey Barton & Nile Ranger, do we really need another wild child? Fair enough the boy (Ravel) has talent, but I’ve never been more worried as a fan when Joey Barton was on his tweeting tirade and tearing the team apart from the inside.
Hopefully we can find a couple of people like Omrani who are the whole package…

  • 312 Dannyo // Jan 12, 2012 at 6:48 AM

    @Indian
Ssshh, don’t say his name out loud, Gorgonzola will hear it.

  • 313 Dannyo // Jan 12, 2012 at 7:40 AM

Why is it so dead quiet here in the morning? Don’t people get up early in the UK?

  • 314 Indian Magpie // Jan 12, 2012 at 7:41 AM

  • 315 ToonMauritius // Jan 12, 2012 at 7:50 AM

Hi lads, Any latest regarding transfers speculation in France

  • 316 Marty-Toon // Jan 12, 2012 at 8:05 AM

Must say there is an excitement aout being a Toon fan these days even though at times it`s tough on the heart.
Great to see the youth system working out so well.
Great way to run a club as long as we can keep some so we can succeed at some stage.
Hope we get a few young uns in and a decent CB and Striker.
    Is Erdinc good enough now???
His gaol ratio aint that impressive as he`s been playing in a poorer quality league

  • 317 ToonMauritius // Jan 12, 2012 at 8:11 AM

    watch this friends http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/9008040/Newcastle-United-chasing-wonder-kid-Ravel-Morrison-after-Manchester-United-put-him-up-for-sale.html

  • 318 Tsunki // Jan 12, 2012 at 8:27 AM

Marty – I think it’s Ranger who has a decent Gaol ratio lol. Sorry about that. Funny tho for all the talk about Erdinc will he wont he, he seems to be a bit of a peripheral player. Is he THAT good. I was also thinking the same thing – how many other teams in the league have the same prospects coming through the ranks like we do? Man Utd? Not City or Liverpool they just buy theirs. Exciting times to be at NUFC I think.

Bad News: We have had a bid turned down for Ravel Morrison.
Good News:Not to be deterred, Newcastle United are now in the hunt for an Asbo-collecting, socially inept, brain dead, moronic, trouble making, ungrateful, knob-end, tooled up, lazy b*stard, waster, to mould into a cheap premier league footballer.
