Newcastle Close To Signing Top Algerian Midfielder

News today that Newcastle are after another one of Lens’ top young players.

Abdelhakim Omrani – 20 year-old Algerian midfilder

Mehdi Abeid arrived on a free transfer last summer and the 19 year-old Algerian U23 player now looks like a player of the future for Newcastle United ,  and he played well last Saturday against Blackburn, when he started in place of Cheick Tiote, who is off playing for the Ivory Coast in Africa.

Newcastle will continue to bring in top youngsters to the club and most of those could come from French clubs, and there is news today that Newcastle have their eyes on 20 year-old  Lens midfielder Abdelhakim Omrani.

The Algerian 6’2″  attacking midfielder is at Lens and like Mehdi Abeid, was born in France (in Freyming-Merlebach) of Algerian parents.

Omrani began his career playing for French club Metz back in 2002,  and then he moved to Nancy in 2005 before joining Lens in 2007, and he made his debut for Lens  against Angers back in March of 2009.

Omrani has played for the French U19 side and like Abeid he elected to play for Algeria, and last September he was called up to the Algerian Under-23 National Team for the four day training camp at Sidi Moussa, that Newcastle’s Mehdi Abeid also attended.

Omrani is rated as one of the best young talents in France and almost moved to German club  Bayern Munich last summer, but it seems that Newcastle may be one the verge of  acquiring the youngster, who turns 21 next month.

There are reports in the French Daily, L’Equipe,  that Omrani is having a trial with Newcastle right now, and a decision will be made by the end of the week whether Newcastle will sign the youngster.

This all sounds very good to us.

L’Equipe is also reporting that Danny Situ, who had a trial with Newcastle last summer,  signed for Swansea City yesterday.

We’re not sure why Newcastle didn’t snap up Danny, as he looked a very good up-and-coming center-back.

Comments welcome.

This is a completely misunderstood article.
This is a lad who was a trial at Bayern, then he was at our place, in December/January.
Now he’s being thought on, but focus is elsewhere. This was in the journal earlier today, and the same thing has also been said by NUFCFans on twitter.

gud to se us scouring europe for talent, but it doesnt really help the fact that the first team squad is sadly lacking if a couple of key injuries happen, hope these things arnt smokescreen for a lack of activity over the coming month, the boy hasnt even made lens first team this year.
Abeid has done OK, but he is in a decent side currently and babysat by cabaye at the weekend, seems like he needs to lose a bit of puppy fat to me, abit behind Vuckic IMO lets hope his pal come through and does the business.

After a bit of Googleing. Looks as if Islam is fitting into the the start of 2012-2013 season.

“The Football League yesterday re-iterated its support for the London 2012 Olympics by re-confirming that the start of the 2012-2013 season will be delayed.
With current member clubs like Coventry City staging twelve matches in the Olympic tournament and the police not wanting football fans in London and the South East travelling to games impeding on those trying to get to the Olympic Stadium, the Football League re-confirmed the news that the 2012/2013 season will not start until August 18th 2012.”

Hasn’t this story already been established as another rehash of old rumours. Just cos there’s no new stuff doesnt mean we have to listen to the old tripe. Anyway, when’s Carroll due back in Newcastle for the QPR Game?

By the way, the African Cup of Nations is being played again next year in 2013 in South Africa. Looks like we’ll lose Tiote and Ba for that, possibly Abeid and Shola as well

now THIS is what gets me really excited, young prospects looking to establish themselves.

sucks we couldn’t get DARNEL situ (think ed’s been calling him danny/daniel since the summer). heard all the rumours why but that’s exactly what they are and no one knows why really. Think Situ will be a force to be reckoned with in a few years time

anywho, above all our other transfer dealings if we keep up with this, it’s comforting to know when we do ship on first teamers for hefty profits, we’ll hopefully have a young, talented kid who’s about ready to step in

don’t really know what to believe. I honestly can’t believe the tripe Lee Ryder spouts on the chronicle. it’s pretty much common knowledge that he’s in the know about as much as that cwarr colin cat and just about anyone who comes on here claiming to have insider knowledge

Its not going to happen but would love big Andy to come back, nowt better than a geordie number nine bullying opposition centre halfs, he’ll be back, free transfer in two/three years time, will still only be turning 26 when hes looking for his next contract, i dont know, it was all a bit disapointing when he lef, even for 35 mil.

matty that is one of the things i really like atm with nufc no one knows anything about r deals until they r done the way it shud b frustrating for the fans but thats how shud b done, take cabaye for example if we had gone shouting our mouths off that were getting cabaye someone would of come n hijacked the deal

Oh u cannot compare Lee Ryder to Colin mate, that’s way too harsh. Colin just checks the bookies and goes after that.
Ryder is a local lad atleast, who is a journo. Atleast he makes the phonecall and asks the question, never in a million years do Cwarr do that.

About Lee Ryder, why do u mention him in your post btw?

im off after this one but just have to say

whyohwhy would anyone want Carroll back? is it sentiment? what is it? because i reckon alot of folks must not have seen him play much this year.

i even heard an argument that “maybe his hearts not in it with pool and he just needs to come home” bullsh***. If you were the most expensive englishman in the history of sport would you give up and say you wanna go back home after a year? get real…..the problem is he’s crap and he knows it
