The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Newcastle officials are currently in France discussing some transfer moves.
Managing Director Derek LLambias – in Paris yesterday with agents
But Mevlut Erding of PSG is not the only player they are currently negotiating for, although the local paper has confirmed that Newcastle met with PSG officials yesterday in Paris.
There are said to be other targets too, and we assume they will come to Newcastle either in January or over the summer, and the news is that Newcastle will be bringing in young players who can improve big time on Tyneside.
The Chronicle is reporting that Newcastle’s top officials met various agents in Paris yesterday to begin negotiations on new signings, and the news is that Newcastle are keen on four or five players.
We now expect two players to be brought in during January, and those are a center-back and a striker, and it could well be that Erding agrees to finally sign on for the Tyneside club.
But we would expect the fee could be a bargain for Newcastle at under £5M, after Newcastle had agreed a fee of £7M only last summer, according to local reports yesterday.
One thing that slightly worries us about Mevlut is that we hope he really wants to come to Newcastle, as there was news over the summer that he had at one point turned down a move to the Magpies.
If he is not excited to become a Magpie then maybe he shouldn’t bother coming over, although we have trust in the Newcastle officials that not only will they be checking out the characters of the new signings, but also their commitment to Newcastle United.
Newcastle will probably bring in as many as six players to the club in the summer, and we’ll probably be losing Alan Smith, Peter Lovenkrands, Tamas Kadar and maybe even James Perch and Danny Guthrie, whose four year contract runs out in June.
That will ease up the wages bill at Newcastle and remember that Kazenga LuaLua has already left this month on a permanent deal to Brighton.
Newcastle will also attempt – once again – to offload Spanish striker Xisco, who is still on £50K/week at Newcastle but no club will take him off Newcastle’s hands.
That gets to be the problem when you sign an unknown and untested player for £5.7M and give him £50K/week on a five year contract.
But Newcastle will not be doing that again, any time soon, but they may have to wait until the summer of next year when Xisco’s contract runs out at Newcastle – an he’s currently on a season long loan deal at his former club Deportivo and he’s got the number 9 shirt there.
If we can get two good players in this January and then say six good players in the summer Newcastle should have an even stronger squad than this season, so we think things are really starting to look up on Tyneside.
What do you think?

Comment #4i like how MAs doing business…i love he brought carr in..& damn…signing santon, cabaye, ba,…world class players. my only concern is that we’re not signing our primary targets cos of agents..cos they cost 5 mio more that we first thought..cos the problem is..IF we dont bring 2,3 quality players in every window, world class players we already have at the club might want to move.. they are world class players – those always aim for gold. its good to be cunning – business wise..but football is more than business.

Graham Carr has had Erdinc close to the top of his cheap strikers list for sometime.
Who’s going to argue with that?
It was his greedy agent that scuppered the last attempt to sign him.

Comment #126 signings in the summer?? Getting a little carried away maybe? I won’t be surprised if we sign nobody this window. If it happens, I won’t be calling for MA’s fat head either. Better to be realistic than constantly over-optimistic!!

Comment #18loving how these formations contain 6-7 french speaking players. The midfield and attack consist of completely french speaking players infact. If Colo Krul and Simpson leave then we may as well join the french division

Comment #21If this story is true and NUFC officials are in France then surely, as we suspect, the Andy Carroll story is rubbish as they can’t be in 2 places at the same time! I know there are phones etc but a deal like that would be done face to face.

Comment #22Erdinc ($5M), Mbiwa ($5M), Hoillet $4M), & Cloyne ($2M) would be perfect…Simpson would then be moved to balance the books. (Said to want ot spend $8M-$10M)

Have to agree the “penis wise” school of scouting is dodgy to say the least but if that is a fairly good representation of Mbiwa, I have to agree he looks good.
I would have to say if he came to us there would be a competition between him and Collo for the coolest defender in the prem, as this lad knows how to gain position and ease players off the ball, e.g.36, 1.08, 1.53 secs. a pleasure to watch a defender doing the job without fuss, certainly cool.

Comment #28I think Erdinc this time will really want to join us.
Reasons:
1. we are doing great, can be chalenging for europa or ucl spot, he wants to join successful team.
2. he have chance to play, in PSG = xisco in NUFC.
3. when we tried to sign him last time, there were too many bad publicities with barton, nolan, carrol, enrique.
4. we were predicted to be relegated this season, so there was no point for him to join us if he could join winning team and tons of money PSG.

Comment #30Mevlüt is decent striker ,however he’s not rated as our first choice striker in our country. For what i’ve seen from Mevlüt in our national team and PSG is his heading and finishing is great and he’s really commits himself to game . He’s got some potential . As a Turk im looking forward to see our lads in Newcastle like Emre so im looking forward to this transfer . AND we need a good winger to left to challenge with Gutierrez.

Comment #31The Real Reason Erdinc didnt sign for us in the summer was PSG got took over by Qatari Megamoney men and they upped the price of him when we had already agreed a lower price for him with the previous owners,Our Very own Peter Beardsley told me this when i had the pleasure of his company pre-season
