Newcastle Look To Best And Ben Arfa For The Goals

Leon Best believes that Ben Arfa’s belief in his own abilities can  make him a big Newcastle star of the future.

Leon Best – after scoring at Aston Villa

Alan Pardew talked about Ben Arfa recently and let it be known there were certain areas of his game that the Frenchman still had to work on.

The lad still loses the ball too much, and Pardew would like him to increase his intensity and track back when Newcastle do not have the ball.

But those are the easy things that can be learned,  and we all know that Ben Arfa has been blessed with some wonderful skills.

Newcastle will be hoping that both Ben Arfa and Leon Best can start scoring those gaols for Newcastle while a certain Demba  Ba is away in Africa over the next five weeks or so.

Leon Best is a good friend of the 24 year-old Frenchman and he had this to say about his pal today:

“It’s a matter of Hatem believing in himself, as well as people getting on him and keeping him in a happy mood,”

“He’s a funny character, but a lovely guy and I get on very well with him. It is sometimes a matter of confidence within yourself, and it came out against Blackburn last weekend.”

“That will help him progress and show his talent even more this season.”

It’s a long time since Leon Best scored a goal for Newcastle – it’s way back in September in fact.

Leon scored both goals in the 2-1 win over Fulham at home on 28th August, and then a goal at Aston Villa in the 1-1 draw on 17th September, but nothing since then.

So he’s due a goal, and we think Best and Shola Ameobi could get the starts up front on Sunday afternoon against QPR,  with Ben Arfa starting on the right wing.

Ben Arfa has two goals this season and both excellent strikes with the goal at Bolton in the 2-0 win on Boxing Day.

And then of course the wonder goal last Saturday afternoon in Newcastle’s 2-1 win over Blackburn, that takes us into the 4th round of the FA Cup at either Wrexham or Brighton at the end of the month.

We need some goals from somebody on Sunday if we are to get all three points against 4th bottom QPR.

Best and Ben Arfa are two players that can score them.

after best’s latest perfomances i certainly wouldnt rely on him for goals. the thing is we are starting to stall again on bringing a striker in. It happened last window and we ended up losing out. our target should be already in place, again a very poor showing by our owner and manager……..here we go again

Best will come good,he’s gonna change role from Ba’s foil to main threat and he’ll deliver the goods. You just need to watch that goal against Fulham to calm any doubts.

    @Stuart.

To be fair though, Pardew did say a Striker was not coming in this window. A center back is his priority.

The Maiga thing was a bit strange. They either didn’t like him as a person (Pardew always bangs on about character) or they got encouragement on a different target. If they really are back in for Erdinc then that would make sense as they wanted him prior to moving for Maiga. I wouldn’t be concerned about Erdinc’s goal rate as that’s not the type of player he is. Bellamy didn’t score many, but his pace was frightening and he put teams on the back foot. Erdinc has some pace and we lack that a bit up front as a different option. Still, this window would be superb if we brought in a forward, a winger and a young CB. Can’t see MA splashing out that much though! And if £1million for Morrison is enough then that would be a superb deal. There will always be someone who would take a risk on him in the future, his ability is sensational.

Everyone seems to be getting annoyed that we haven’t signed a striker yet, which is strange considering that Pardew has openly said that we will not be trying to sign one?

A centre half is our priority because if Willo or Colo pick up an injury we’re back in serious trouble.

JB, we needed a forward player 12 months ago, they failed in the last window despite openly admitting that they tried everything to make it happen. So 6 months later to say they aren’t trying to get one is strange to say the least.

I think it’s a bit cloak and dagger. Reverse psychology from PArdew, after the Summer, he will never be seen to breaking promises again. He isn’t daft and knows that this board could easily fail to deliver. I for one wouldn’t be surprised if a striker was signed. we need one and Pardew must know this. Also, a right winger would be ideal (Hoilett yes please!!!) and a young CB.

This young lad Morrison is the best prospect to come out of Man Us academy in the last 10 years.
We have Arfa, Vuckic, Abeid, Santon, Ba, Cabaye, Tiote, Krull, Ferguson etc and we do not have ambition, do me a favour.
We could be the new Manchester United at this rate in a few years and all done by being savvy and only buying potential and players who have loop holes in their contracts.
If its true 50% of transfer funds are ear marked for youth development that is amazingly ambitious.

When Carroll was sold last year the question was asked – who’s going to score the goals now? Step forward Best who had done little up until then. He led the line really well and even had lots of doubters at that time singing his praises. Those doubts have returned but let’s give the lad a chance to show what he can do again now that this year’s main man is absent. He may just come up with the goods once again.

super simmo @ 9 yes he did say that mate , however , i thought we were an ambitious club? and having just lost our goal scorer i just thought maybe he would have a replacement already lined up considering the balls up last window.

Its a “poor show from the owner and manager” if wont don’t get a striker?

I love some of these comments, truly inspiring words. Forget that we are 7th, forget that we have just beat Man Utd, forget that Ben Arfa has just scored one the best goals in decades. Lets have a go at the manager for not buying a striker. Have we not grasped the concept of a management structure yet? Unless of course the comments above are suggesting Pardew should be personally buying players from his own wage!? Whether you like Ashley or not, get over the fact he’s not going to spend money on over inflated players in the Jan transfer window. He may still end up picking up a few youngsters or cheaper alternatives that are our of favour at some other clubs, but instead of expecting the world and just end up being disappointed, accept that this is the way he does things. I’m not a fan of Ashley personally but at the end of the day the important decisions he has made of late have worked, whether this is through luck or his making or a bit of both…

Maiga was second choice to Erdinc and Erdinc was second choice to Kevin Gamiero, so I’m not that bothered about either of them.

I know what you mean, i desperately would want another player in but you cant blame pardew for that.
He’s done a very good job for us. Even the way he’s introduced players into the team like santon and ben arfa. Rather in the past where would just throw them in and expect them to shine from the start. He has a very specific mind set he wants from players and if there not in tune with the team he holds back. I really like ben arfa but i know exactly what pardew means about work rate, our system of working for each other wont work if one player isnt doing their job. He should def play him on the right wing, he was so much better. But yeh another striker would be good. To be honest now that Sammi is injured i think we will get someone in.

neblexa @28 – i didnt fancy pards when he first came , like a lot of others i was very disappointed, however, he has surprised me at what he has achieved. I would take to him more if he was to accept some responsibility for some of our poor performances this season, except blaming everyone and his dog, also i think the fans would get a bit more behind him if he was to speak up on behalf of us fans when our owner wants to sell some of our better players, and demand cover for what we already have. The problem he has (pards) is that HE is the one who comes in for the critisism when the team is not doing well, not our owner , pards takes the flak,I f i was to see first hand that he wanted what was only good for the fans and the club, i would look at him in a different light

we will be fine. best might be a little bad, but he has had a good track record. last season, when called apon he got 6 goals in 11 games. Aemobi is lazy but big and offers a more carroll like threat. We can use him. Ben Arfa is quality. However played in the wrong position will be like a fish out of water. Would like to see Benny on the wing personally and then wip the in for shola and best. However if that didn’t work would put barfa CAM and drop ameobi. Then raylor on the wing
