Reports That Aly Cissohko Moving To Newcastle For £7.5M

There’s news today that Lyon left back Aly Cissokho is on his way to join Newcastle United.

Aly Cissokho – on his way to Newcastle for a medical?

Maybe the reason for all the speculation is that the 24-year-old, who has one cap for France, has been left out of  the Lyon squad for their important game at Montpellier this weekend.

The player is said to have some muscle pain, but the news is that he’s really on his way to Newcastle to have a medical, according to sources in France.

We’d be very surprised if this report is accurate,  especially since the fee is said to be €9M, which is around £7.5M, which if anything is higher than the fee Newcastle were quoted in the summer, when they were interested in getting Aly to replace Jose Enrique but the fee was too high.

And while Newcastle will be interested in any quality defender, and a full back specifically in case Danny Simpson is sold in the summer, the fee quoted would hardly be anywhere near a bargain for the Newcastle club.

The news is coming from France, but if it’s true it doesn’t make much sense to us,  because Alan Pardew is said to have around £8M to spend in January in total, and we desperately need a good center-back.

Why would Pardew spend almost all of that on a left back,  who we don’t really need at the moment, when we need a center-back as the highest priority,  and then a striker after that?

Arsenal are also said to be interested in the player, but the London club only want to get a left back in on loan until players like Kieron Gibbs and Andre Santos are fit again, so to say Arsenal may try to sign the player is also hard to believe.

It’s an interesting story, but we doubt if it has much truth in it.

But you never can tell of course.

For the record Cissokho joined Lyon from Porto in the summer of 2009 for a massive €15M (about £12.5M), and has played 100 times for Lyon with two goals.

Regarding Erding. I heard the same but personally I think if we want him we will get him. I know I am biased but I cannot see him picking Rennes over Newcastle.

What it boils down to is do Newcastle want him?
    Will Rennes offer daft wages?

Can’t see Rennes offering more wages than us (even with our tight budget) and it just comes to MA paying the money I suppose. Now the real test for MA begins. Is he here to make a quick buck from us Geordies by selling our best assests or is he in it to make money from the renewed success of our club via investment?

    Let the games begin….

Beattie – Would be great if Ashley is doing the work behind the scenes to get us the players.. If he gives Pardew the money and we end up with the players we really need and helps us get into europe then that will go a long way for people to see he isnt just here to sell players and genuinely wants to improve the team but by only doing it the right way.. lets just hope no one comes in with stupid offers for our stars

mattnufc – Neither Cissokho nor Erdinc are playing tonight.. Cissokho has a slight injury and dont know anything to do with Erdinc not being in the squad, maybe its true about him being in that hotel malmaison or w/e

only way it will happen is if it is offset by a sale/sales/release of a player such as smith.

If its a sale it will probably be simpson with santon switching to the right… only logical explanation i can see if this has any truth to it. Also, if were getting a striker of any kind going into the first team as a starter, same situation… lovenkrands out the door or smith gone freeing up wages – not a bad thing mind as its essentially just improving quality in the squad.

Would still like to hang onto simpson either way

The post is a little misleading. NUFC have never openly quoted that there is £8 million available. In fact they havent quoted anything, it is all guess work. There is no smoke without fire

unlikely, we don’t really have a need for a LB unless the plan is to sell Simpson and move Santon across to RB.

Also I believe that Pardew said that funds would be made available for the right player, whether that means he could potentially have more than £8mil I don’t know, but I can’t see this happening personally.

    Lets get this straight lads,

The only reports of a budget have came from Papers and poxy journos, no one what so ever to do with Newcastle has said weve got £8million to spend.. Pardew has said himself weve got a budget and if the right player comes along then they is money outside of that budget if the price is right.. so for all we know Pards could have £20million to spend.. just stop going off what the daft papers say they no nothing atall about the ins and outs of our club now thats a FACT because its all in house

alec6247toon – How do we not have need? we dont have any natural Left Backs??

Santon, Simo, Raylor, Tav are all right backs although Santon is a good LB aswell he aint a natural one so we need a out and out LB

why do people think santon is a RB? he has said himself his favorite postion in the back 4 is LB, he plays best as LB etc

he is a LB who can also play RB not the other way round lol
obviously the best choice would be to sign a LB so that we have 2 LB’s and that way santon can play right back and cis can play LB and if cis gets injured simo goes RB and santon LB (for example)

also about the funds, someone said it earlier funds will be there if the right player for the right price appears, also the moneygrabber will be leaving in the summer, smith (perch lovenkrands hopefully)

pieters, cissoko, erdinc, its like being beemed back in time 4 months, somebody get me a time machine too when we actually did get excited about signings, cant argue with the quality we now have, but at the time dont think my heart rate went above 40 when they all signed if it did then it was mostly relief, all opportunist good deals but not exciting.

No Erdinc in tonights PSG squad. The lad is deffo going somewhere. Not a word on him being injured. Also worth following both PSG and Lyons managers post match, likely to have the question come up regarding Erdinc and Cissokho.
Atleast if it’s a mildly logical frenchy asking the questions.

was being funny regarding ridgewell, (would be a depressing signing) but i think that will be about as ambitious as we will be in this window, anyway only 17 more days of alleged targets coming in. The club are being quiet because there will be nobody coming in, maybe a young CB at a push as back up, simples.

just had a little brain wave earlier lads, the fact that in my opinion we have two class centre backs in colo and ST with willo as cover, so techinically only need an emergency centre half incase anything god forbid should happen to either of them, i was listening to five live ealrier and heard 3 words Tel Ben Haim and thought hmmm at first i thought he is well past it but is 29 so a gd few years left and the fact hes at pompey whos finances are obismal means theyd accept peanuts, any thoughts or is everyone adament we will spunk 5-6 mill on a young up and coming monster??
