Newcastle Now Linked With Serie A Center-Back

Alan Pardew must bring in another center-back in January.

Yohan Benalouane in green – in action against Juventus
That’s if   Newcastle are to avoid the embarrassment that happened last month when Steven Taylor, Coloccini and Williamson were all out injured,  and we had no recognized center-backs to come into the first team at Norwich – and lost 4-2.

Of course whoever comes in will have to be a good deal and affordable, and one player said to be under consideration is Yohan Benalouane, a 24-year-old who plays center-back for Cesena in the Italian Serie A league.

The news is that a Newcastle scout was in the stands to watch the Tunisian in a Coppa Italia tie at Napoli in midweek, according to a report in the French daily, L’Equipe.

Cesena eventually lost that game 2-1, after having taken the lead in the first half.

The 24 year-old 6’1″ French-born Tunisian joined Saint Etienne back in 2006,  and he played about 62 times for the French club before he moved to Cesena in 2010.

Benalouane was included in the Tunisian squad for the first time back in August of 2010, in a game against Chad in an African Cup of Nations qualifying game.

But he missed the game because he failed to get one of the required vaccinations before he could travel to Chad, and it turns out he did not join the squad in Chad, and he has never played for Tunisia.

He played once for the French U21 side, but we have to wonder how good this lad is if he is not a regular player for Tunisia?

It would be difficult to think this player could make it at Newcastle, from the information we have.

What do you think?

He was scouted, we scout probably a 100 players each year. I bet not everyone is subjected to a transfer.
Give us some official transfer news next Ed 😉

He could go from a back up at Cesena to a back up at Newcastle.

Good deal if you ask me, his market value is £1.5 million and this wouldn’t break the bank and he would be happy challenging for the first team.

GT89 – He’s a lot like Colo, very composed on the ball, likes to play a pass and not just smash it up field but he’s quicker and better in the air than Colo, could be a massive acquisition for us if we are indeed in for him

i cant see how pards was delighted with the performance , i thought it was a shitter. thank fu ck for a bit of individual skill by besty or we would be looking at another 0-0 dog.

cant believe with 15 mins to go we were trying to defend a 1-0 lead at home to crap qpr. absolutely abysmal. you could hear a pin drop in the place as well, you could tell everyone was nervous as hell. what happened to the best atmosphere in the league.

bring back the noise people. the man united game was thunderous.

but on hba thought he was class today tracking back n his all round play some of the cross field balls to santon he was playing were brilliant

It’s better than Kevin Davies for Bolton, and he got an England call up. You’ve also got to remember how many of those were substitute appearances.

Shola’ll be good for 5-10 goals a season, and that’s all you expect from strikers that aren’t first choice

I’m going out on a limb here, but I’m pretty sure we haven’t conceded a single goal with Perch in center mid this season :/

We ship dozens when he’s at CB (Notts Forest, Norwich, Chelski), but I don’t think we’ve conceded a single on in his cameo appearances in CM!

    He didn’t even get booked today! That’s personal growth for you (;

JFA – I’ll take the three points at this stage of the season. It was grueling at times, but this is the sort of game we struggled to win last year – and teams like Liverpool are still failing to win. We are very compact under Pardew – that’s the buzz word for me. Not thrilling but threaten when we need to and keep our shape for long periods. On aye and Santon is class.
