Rumors On Cissokho Transferring To Newcastle Still Persist

There are sources in France, including L’ Equipe, that are insisting Lyon defender Aly Cissokho is on the verge of a move to Newcastle.

Cissokho – on his way to Newcastle?
We don’t think so

Cissokho was left out of the Lyon squad yesterday when the side were beaten 1-0 at Montpellier,  with the accompanying rumor that the 24 year-old left back  was in fact was on his way to Newcastle for a medical.

Lyon are said to be ready to sell Aly Cissokho for around £7.5M, but in fact that fee has now been raised to £10M, but we cannot believe Newcastle would spend anywhere near that much on a left-back who we don’t really need at this time.

Newcastle must bring in a center-back this month.

Arsenal and Newcastle are supposed to be interested in the player and Lyon official Jean-Michel Aulas had this to say to L’Equipe:

“Possible winter departures? That doesn’t mean we don’t have any more means, but we want to keep the rules we set, which is to not increase our deficit,”

“The transfer of Aly Cissokho? I am rather in favor of it” “We could hire a central defender, young, not expansive and versatile, but none of our current centre defenders will be free agents next June, and maybe in February they will all be back.”

“We could hire a defensive midfielder as Maxime Gonalons is deputising as a central defender. We could also not do anything.”

The reports today from his agent as to why the move has not yet happened are that Cissokho has a slight injury,  and that Lyon and Newcastle have still not agreed on the fee.

But why would he be going for a medical unless Newcastle had first agreed a fee with his French club?

Cissokho’s representative Ali Barat had this to say today:

“The two clubs are not in agreement”, “Aly is suffering from a little calf injury and therefore no medical examination is planned at the moment”

Lyon  are in need of some cash to help balance their books,  and the French club are asking €12M (£10M) for Cissokho, but that Newcastle have offered just €9M (£7.5M).

We have a very hard time believing any of this is actually true, and maybe Lyon and Cissokho’s agent are simply trying to drum up interest from Newcastle.

Comments welcome.

No way, we want a top striker for less than that!!! No way would we pay that for an out of favour full back, and rightly so.

I’d love to have him at SJP but not at the expense of a new CB or Striker.

    ooooh, should have put 1st!

also, do we need a LB? Santon looks the bizzo and it’s cover at CB we need. Raylor, Tavernier can cover our first choice full backs.

Let’s hope we do sign him, Simpson will need to either sign his contract or go.

Good player but we won’t pay more than 6m for any defender! Think we’ll pay 1 or 2m for a young centre half to cover, Lewis Dunk wouldn’t shock me tbh! Then spend 4 mil on a striker none of us have heard of, reckon we’ll pick up Ravel Morrison too and that’ll be it!

Hope we get Erdinc, we need a striker that makes runs for benny, as you can see he is always looking for the killer pass, he was brilliant yesterday.

Hope we get Erdinc, our frontline is too stationary and isnt bringing the best out of our creative players. Cabaye,HBA,Guthrie and even Colo when he steps forward, are always looking for the through pass but Best and Shola want it played into feet or hoofed high. Erdinc may not bring goals but he’ll offer options.

We need a striker to compliment Ba who also get 15 goals a season,HBA will be a regular on the right wing before the seasons out,I think.

the match yesterday has made it appear that a striker/CF LB and a RW is the positions we need to get filled while CB we can focus on a cheap young future talent because i think defenders are not used much as a sub just a cover for injury so 3 should be enough but forwards atleast 4 i feel are needed for good squad but we have only 1.5 with BA being certainly good and HBA 0.5 good skill but goes too far with it
best i would say can do good but only if he is the main man so is not good playing along side ba

I think buying at this time of the season may become a panic buy, so realistically the supposed 8 mil we have just loan a defender as cover for the centre backs, and spend our budget on a half decent striker for example Rhodes and maybe a loan for a winger

nufc mad man, have u considered ben arfa holds on to the ball as he is waiting for people to make runs, as iv noticed alot of the players stand and watch when he gets it…he was outstanding yesterday, changed the game.

A dont think we need a RW anymore a think Ben Arfa will be our starter on the RW soon enough and then Obertan is back up.. all a think we need is CB/LB/ST

Erdinc will score goals for fun in our team as he will link up with Ba and also he will be on the same wave length as Benny and Cabaye and will be bombing through on goal and scoring as he is a cracking finisher and also very quick

ToonJovi – A reckon if someone has offered £4million for Simpson and he still isnt willing to sign the deal offered then a think he will be sold yeah.. But a think thats the only way we’ll spend money on a full back is if someone leaves a highly doubt we’d buy a RB well we wouldnt if thaz any sense in the management..

    RB – Simo-Raylor-Tavernier-Santon
    LB – Santon

Shola was terrible AGAIN yesterday. No room for sentiment in this game in this era!!
Shola Ranger aqnd Mcloven must go……Leaves us with Best and BaStriker in now, mobile striker, and 2 good young defenders…lets move forward and not sit on the auld Laurels!!

49 Goals in 250 games…….says it all for the boy who promised he could fill alan shearers boots……………what with?? The sh!te he talks?

Ben arfa up front with best, with cabaye n Guthrie behind as centres Raylor n Jonas on wings I’d give it a shot away from home at Fulham nothing to loose…… But it will never happen of course. AP will work his magic nd get us a result I’m sure whatever the squad maybe.
