Papiss Cisse Signs For Newcastle – Gets The Number 9 Shirt – Videos

Newcastle United have completed the signing of striker Papiss Cissé from SC Freiburg on a five-and-a-half-year deal,  and this is just fantastic news for Newcastle fans everywhere.

Papiss Cisse – signs on for Newcastle United – gets number 9 shirt

The announcement was put on the Newcastle web site a short while ago.

As we reported earlier today, Cissé scored for Senegal in their final African Cup of Nations warm-up match last Sunday in the 1-0 win over Kenya.

The striker has  9 goals in 13 International appearances.

And in club football he has 90 goals in 205 total appearances for Metz (99 appearances, 36 goals), Cherbourg (26,11), Chateauroux (15,4) and SC Freiburg (65, 39).

So yes – this lad can score goals!

This is what 26 year-old Cisse said after the signing today:

“I would like to thank everybody for their welcome, and for inviting me to sign for the Club,”   “It is an honor to play for such a big club and I am looking forward to it.”

“I want to pay back the confidence the Club have shown in me, and give the supporters something to be proud of.”

“I am aware of the huge importance of the number nine shirt, and when I spoke with the manager he made it very clear how important this shirt is.”

“I will treat it with the respect and I hope to do my very best in this shirt.”

Managing Director Derek Llambias added this:

“We are very pleased to bring Papiss to the Club.”  “It is a signing which perfectly complements the type of side Alan is building, and we are sure he will prove to be an excellent acquisition going forward.”

“He has travelled a long way to come and sign with us today, and we thank the Senegalese Football Federation for their assistance in helping us secure the player.”

And finally Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has apparently wanted to sign Papiss Cisse for some time, and he added this:

“Ever since Andy Carroll left, Papiss was my first choice in the specific role he has at the end of the play.”  “He is a finisher with an already-established CV in the Bundesliga, where we have monitored him for the best part of two years.”

“Unfortunately he was out of reach, financially, for us in the summer, but it recently became apparent that Derek Llambias and Lee Charnley could do the deal in this window.”

“It has become obvious this season that the team and the Club have done exceptionally well, and Mike Ashley has backed me to bring this player to the Club.”

“I would like to thank Mike, Derek and everyone involved for getting this deal over the line.”  “I spoke to Demba about Papiss, and he cannot wait to join up with his teammate in Newcastle.”

“Our fans know that this shirt brings its own pressures. One of the iconic numbers in world football – the number nine of Newcastle.” “It will be only fair that Papiss is given time to understand the responsibility it brings.”

“As the manager, I wish him all the luck in the world to bring success to himself and this Club.”

This is a monumental day for Newcastle United fans.

And center-backs around the Premier League will be shaking in their boots thinking that soon Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba will be coming at them – number 9 and number 19. 😀

And it seems that Alan Pardew had tried to get him in the summer but he was just too expensive, but Derek Llambias and owner Mike Ashley also come out of this looking golden.

And this could be the signal that Newcastle mean business in  the Premier League.

And this season too.

With thanks to reader Beattie25 here are two videos of Demba Ba number 19 followed by Papiss Cisse, our new  number 9.

absolutley gobsmacked with the news, couldn’t be happier even though i have no idea who this guy is? the only reason i am happy is from listening to so many people all summer on here say how class this player is and we probably won’t get him cos he’s out of our price range!!!

Love it! can anyone tell me what sort of striker he is?

    Only question now lads….

    europa league or champions league?

Can anyone remember back in May 2011 when we were interested in the Bangura’s?

They were very good friends and had an unbelievable understanding and that relationship made them an attractive offering.

I wonder if that type of potential strike force consisting of good friends had any reason for this outcome?

    Its exciting any how.

    @ Yorkshiretoon

He is like Eto’o but more powerful. Sharp, great finsher, two footed, deadlier than a flying cat.

Im ecstatic at this news! He is a top player and when others were mentioning it and dreaming about signing him in the summer i must admit i watched a few youtube clips and thought he looked immense. So glad we have pulled this off. Just another great player signed by MA and scouted by Graham Carr

Lads we have 2 strikers who are constantly on the move and who are superb finishers.

If the team can create openings then these 2 will cause havoc. HBA will be crucial. Bet going on for NUFC top 4 next season. and bet for top 6 this season. 4/1, we are better than Liverfool.

For me we are slowly building a team full of class players capable of competing at champions league level, personally i think we are an attacking full back away from being better than SBR’s side, should be a good few years the next few, dont think ashley is selling the club no more, he loves the toon.

Well mate, it may actually look like this was Pardews one.
Pardew said he had targeted him ever since Carroll left, which was 1 1/2 month after Pardew joined.
No doubt both Pards and Carr has been in Freiburg checking him out allot ever since that time. But he was Pards nr 1 target to replace Carroll.
Ofc, Carr has been feeding Pardew whatever info he could at the same time.

But it doesn’t really matter, i’m over the moon, chuffed about this. I reckon he scores in his first game, wanna bet? 😛

    not maiga….
    nor ruiz or de jong

but the ONE striker i’d venture to say ALL of us were in agreeance on. fantastic. I’m trying write right now but i’m too hyped up and can’t get this out of my mind. this is incredible

a wingback and it will be a definite top 6 finish. CB cover would be the icing on the cake
