Just saw the news – that’s what comes of going away and working on my son’s house.
Papiss Cisse – on his way to Newcastle
The news being reported first by Sky Sports News is that CC Freiburg’s Papiss Cisse is set to complete a £10M move to Newcastle United.
The dramatic news is all over the internet, and it seems that Newcastle have had an offer accepted by Bundesliga club, SC Freiberg for Demba Ba’s international team-mate.
Cisse (full name is Papiss Demba Rodney Cisse) is 26 years old and an awesome goal-scorer, and he has left Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations training camp to jet into Newcastle in a bid to complete the deal.
The news is that the player will both undergo a medical and then negotiate personal terms with Newcastle, before jetting back to Africa to join up again with the Senegal squad.
You can take your choice of what the fee is, as the fee ranges in the various reports from £7.5M to £10M, but it looks like everything has been agreed and unless something unforeseen happens in the medical, he should become a Newcastle player tonight.
On Sunday, Cisse scored the only goal for Senegal in their final warm-up match against Kenya, before the African Cup of Nations tournament begins this Saturday, when Senegal play Zambia.
Cisse was said to be a target of Sunderland yesterday, and maybe that’s why Newcastle have moved with such lightning speed.
But the Newcastle club have proved before that they can move very fast indeed, if they need to in the transfer market.
Papiss Cisse – wants to play in Premier League
Cisse is as prolific a scorer at Freiburg as Demba Ba is at Newcastle, and he has scored 39 goals in his last 65 games over the past two seasons for the German club.
It seems that Cisse became available once Cologne striker Sebastien Freis arrived at Freiburg today.
Cologne general manager Volker Finke said this to say about Freis:
“We have helped Sebastian Freis, he has been looking forward to getting more match action in a regular way. He is joining Freiburg.”
During the summer and on the last day of the transfer window on August 31st, Newcastle wanted to get Cisse to Tyneside, but at the time Freiburg had said they would need to bring in a replacement before they could let the 6′ tall striker leave.
At that time the price they had quoted Newcastle had been £13M.
And it’s interesting that only recently the striker had said this:
“I love the Premier League and want to make my name like my mate Demba Ba is doing with Newcastle United at the moment.”
We don’t like to put a negative connotation on this, but we hope this doesn’t mean Newcastle are about to lose Demba Ba because of that release clause in his contract.
Papiss Cisse joined FC Metz back in 2004 from Senegal club Douanes Dakar, and he moved to SC Freiburg in the summer of 2009, and he has a remarkable 39 goals in 65 games for the German club and in his career he has scored 90 goals in 205 appearances.
This season he has scored 9 goals in 15 appearances for Freiburg who are fighting relegation and are bottom of the Bundesliga on 13 points and 5 points from safety.
This lad can certainly score the goals and he will make an awesome partnership with his Senegal colleague Demba Ba, and it’s interesting that Ba came from German club 1899 Hoffenheim.
We would imagine that Demba Ba himself would be delighted at this, but nothing on his twitter account about it, although he though Leon Best’s goal on Sunday was great.
This is what Ba said about Leon’s goal via a tweet:
“I think leon’s goal yesterday. Was brillant. I’m so glad for him. Hope he score plenty in the next games! Best aka dreezy DRAKE. Loool”
Now it doesn’t look like Ba wants to leave Newcastle does it.
And the Evening Chronicle are reporting that the lad has actually signed for Newcastle. 😀
Now Newcastle need to sign a top center-back in January and we could even start to climb the league before the end of the season.
Comments welcome.

2 hours 10 mins away – roll on confirmation.
Mick Lowes said that there is no interest in Yohan Benaloane. However you spell it.

Comment #20My team for one our friends in the ACN come back is: (providing we manage to keep all of our existing players)
——————Krul————–
–Simo—–Willo–Collo—Santono
-HBA—–Tiote—Cabaye–Spiderman

Dream team? This team can aim for top 4, seriously not delusional or anything.

Comment #27This will be a simply fantastic signing for Newcastle, as long as its not as Demba Bas replacement, if we can hold onto all our players, and possibly sign a center half, then i see no reason why Newcastle can not finish at least 6th this season, this lad demba cissi and demba ba together up front will be a real handful for any defence in the premier league, please Mike Ashely dont sell any of our star players this transfere window.

Comment #28I am still in shock and read all the articles since I heard the news even if they are just copy and pasted lol. I just can’t believe we are actually going to spend 10M on a top quality striker that ticks all the boxes in becoming a legend up here in Newcastle. Ashley is full of surprises and I really hope and believe it’s to have both Dembas linking together here and not that Ba is leaving.
This is a great piece of business and he will have little trouble in settling down here with his top mate Ba already scoring for fun here. They are both Senegalese and will have a terrific understanding on and off the pitch.
Brilliant signing I am just eagerly waiting for the unveiling. Please sign this guy up with no hic-ups and we will almost certainly get into europe this year.
Amazing stuff!! This unpredictability is why I love this great club!! 😀

Comment #30Pardew is getting the backing he needs from MA and DL.
A HUGE step forward to get over passed sins and mistakes.
Not as doom and gloom as people thought.
Here are all of Mick Lowes quotes:
“dotting i’s and crossing t’s should be announced around 8pm this evening. He was always AP’s No1 target”
“Llambiass says he is not coming in for Demba Ba to go out. I am reliably informed that he will wear the No9 shirt”
“Llambiass no one is going out MA has put his money in to get the striker we need to move us forward” “No interest in Benalouane”
“The fee is higher than £7.5M and there is money still there to buy the centre half they need. This will make Ba very happy”
“Cisse has now left the UK and his agents are completing the paperwork.” Dont know what that means for the shirt pic, unless done
That’s all i could find. Happy days 🙂

Comment #36I learned already. Nothing is final until it is final.
I am saying he will not sign, and then when/if he will, I will be just happy, without the fear of “maybe it won’t happen”.
Also, please don’t go over board lads. Top 4? Because of 1 extra player?
We are not strong enough in the back 4. Need a CB and also back ups for lots of positions.
We lack quality wingers (at least as back ups) and Simmo is a weak link although he is of course doing some good things as well, but not world class at all.
Ba, Tiote, Colo, Cabaye, Santon, Krul, S.T all good. But Jonas (with all my love for him) is not the best winger in the world, and also Obe is not good on the right wing, Simmo is weak, and Willo is solid but we can do better. So I think we should try and get that 5th-7th, but not top 4 this year.
