Just saw the news – that’s what comes of going away and working on my son’s house.
Papiss Cisse – on his way to Newcastle
The news being reported first by Sky Sports News is that CC Freiburg’s Papiss Cisse is set to complete a £10M move to Newcastle United.
The dramatic news is all over the internet, and it seems that Newcastle have had an offer accepted by Bundesliga club, SC Freiberg for Demba Ba’s international team-mate.
Cisse (full name is Papiss Demba Rodney Cisse) is 26 years old and an awesome goal-scorer, and he has left Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations training camp to jet into Newcastle in a bid to complete the deal.
The news is that the player will both undergo a medical and then negotiate personal terms with Newcastle, before jetting back to Africa to join up again with the Senegal squad.
You can take your choice of what the fee is, as the fee ranges in the various reports from £7.5M to £10M, but it looks like everything has been agreed and unless something unforeseen happens in the medical, he should become a Newcastle player tonight.
On Sunday, Cisse scored the only goal for Senegal in their final warm-up match against Kenya, before the African Cup of Nations tournament begins this Saturday, when Senegal play Zambia.
Cisse was said to be a target of Sunderland yesterday, and maybe that’s why Newcastle have moved with such lightning speed.
But the Newcastle club have proved before that they can move very fast indeed, if they need to in the transfer market.
Papiss Cisse – wants to play in Premier League
Cisse is as prolific a scorer at Freiburg as Demba Ba is at Newcastle, and he has scored 39 goals in his last 65 games over the past two seasons for the German club.
It seems that Cisse became available once Cologne striker Sebastien Freis arrived at Freiburg today.
Cologne general manager Volker Finke said this to say about Freis:
“We have helped Sebastian Freis, he has been looking forward to getting more match action in a regular way. He is joining Freiburg.”
During the summer and on the last day of the transfer window on August 31st, Newcastle wanted to get Cisse to Tyneside, but at the time Freiburg had said they would need to bring in a replacement before they could let the 6′ tall striker leave.
At that time the price they had quoted Newcastle had been £13M.
And it’s interesting that only recently the striker had said this:
“I love the Premier League and want to make my name like my mate Demba Ba is doing with Newcastle United at the moment.”
We don’t like to put a negative connotation on this, but we hope this doesn’t mean Newcastle are about to lose Demba Ba because of that release clause in his contract.
Papiss Cisse joined FC Metz back in 2004 from Senegal club Douanes Dakar, and he moved to SC Freiburg in the summer of 2009, and he has a remarkable 39 goals in 65 games for the German club and in his career he has scored 90 goals in 205 appearances.
This season he has scored 9 goals in 15 appearances for Freiburg who are fighting relegation and are bottom of the Bundesliga on 13 points and 5 points from safety.
This lad can certainly score the goals and he will make an awesome partnership with his Senegal colleague Demba Ba, and it’s interesting that Ba came from German club 1899 Hoffenheim.
We would imagine that Demba Ba himself would be delighted at this, but nothing on his twitter account about it, although he though Leon Best’s goal on Sunday was great.
This is what Ba said about Leon’s goal via a tweet:
“I think leon’s goal yesterday. Was brillant. I’m so glad for him. Hope he score plenty in the next games! Best aka dreezy DRAKE. Loool”
Now it doesn’t look like Ba wants to leave Newcastle does it.
And the Evening Chronicle are reporting that the lad has actually signed for Newcastle. 😀
Now Newcastle need to sign a top center-back in January and we could even start to climb the league before the end of the season.
Comments welcome.

Comment #85His scoring record suggest he’s one of Europe’s best STs, at an average German team. Bundesliga is the most similar league to the PL too. All good signs. From the few clips I’ve seen, he reminds me slightly of Eto’o.

Comment #86sirtoongospel – He does look good but not as technically gifted as Gamerio I think. Still I agree with your points about Cisse he looks a real tough guy with pace and a deadly finisher also very similar to Ba imho. Hence the reason I think he’ll be brilliant for us especially linking with his Senegal buddy 🙂
I can’t wait for confirmation!!!

Comment #95Forster possibly making his move to Celtic permanent. That would make sense. We rejected a 2.5m bid last summer, so 3m+ for him would help the fund a CB, with no real loss to the squad.

Comment #96Haha LewSpi, I know MA has opened his cheque book for Cisse, but I doubt he’d open it quite far enough for the £25m rated Hazard.

Comment #99if we get a centre half in aswell, i will be over the moon, papiss cisse is immense, seen quite alot of him, strong, good in air, great pace, and fantastic finisher, out and out striker, and we already know he works well with ba, we need a good strong defence to our flairs players in ba, cisse, ben arfa, cabaye and jonas has terrorise defences

Comment #101Cisse will help our defense.
Seriously. How? I’ll explain.
When the other side is down 2-0 or 3-1 because of Cisse and his offensive skills, our defense will see two things from the opposition (1) quicker, less patient shots and (2) more sagging help from our CMs. Once goals go on the board, our defense will stiffen even more.

Papiss = Demba’s best marra.
Eden = Cabaye’s best marra.
Can you not see the trend? Blindingly obvious to me.

Comment #104Excellent, add an up and coming cb happy to provide cover for willo and collo and the return of ba, tiote and marveaux in Feb ( that’s like 3 new signing) and we can have a real go at the champions league spot. If we can stay in touch over the next 4/5 games
See pards talking up tav and kadar playing well again for the reserves.
Also time to let fergie and abeid head out on loan

Comment #107What centre half would you choose lads?Say there is 4-5 million left. samba is not for sale/too expensive, so who is the man? Personally I would take a young CB, Maguire or Dunk. Maybe even try and get Clyne too. With no departures this could be the best window we have had in years.

Oh well I go to the Trafalgar Bar near my house and it’s nice there but you do get the ManUre boys coming a lot which is annoying.
If you like when you come over we can meet up at the pub and watch a match, don’t worry I ain’t gay if you’re wondering lol

Being realistic, I’d love Onuhoa. Powerful, rapid, has a good leap on him and he’s English. Would probably dislodge Simmo at RB, given the chance.
