Racial Slurs At Newcastle Players – 29 Year-Old Man Arrested

There have been racial comments made on social networking sites  yesterday directed towards Newcastle United.

It seems the slurs were  based on the number of  black players the Newcastle club have on its books, and of course we just signed another top Senegal International – Papiss Cisse – yesterday.

The news is that police officers in Newcastle  received a number of complaints yesterday, after a user on the Twitter social networking site posted the racial comments.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman made this statement today:

“We have received a report of racist comments made on Twitter. Northumbria Police takes all reports of racist abuse very seriously and inquiries are being conducted.”

“A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and he is being held in custody.”

A spokesman for the Newcaste United club said the following today:

“Newcastle United are appalled by the racist comments made on Twitter in reference to the club and its players.”

“Newcastle United has a zero tolerance approach to racism and will be working with Northumbria Police to identify those responsible for such abhorrent remarks.”

The Newcastle Journal is reporting that police were contacted a number of times via email from around 6:00pm local time yesterday evening, complaining about the racial comments.

We support all efforts to eliminate racial discrimination in both football and in society in general.

Newcastle have black players in their squad like Cheick Tiote, Demba Ba and now Papiss Cisse, and that’s simply because they are the best – that’s one way to look at it.

We don’t care what color or creed the Newcastle players are – it makes absolutely no difference on the football field – and it makes no difference in life.

We could all probably try to be more tolerant towards people who our different from ourselves, in whatever way that may be.

Comments welcome.

People like “planb” writing crap stuff to people on this blog, and calling excellent people like “GeordieGerman” Hitler is way, WAY, passed the line.
He should be shut down and out Ed.

Good that Newcastle is going after the scumbag(s).

Partizan – your figures for our players on the previous thread. £15m for Santon is pretty far-out, but Cisse’s price rising to £20m literally overnight????

dannyo – come on man. It’s not the same. You never seen the Curb when LD calls his wife Hitler on speaker phone in front of an old Jewish couple? Context man.

The racist slur by the twitter moron is unacceptable though – agree with that.

Offkey – 20 or 30 years ago half of society thought it was acceptable to talk like that. Now the overwhelming majority slam down on it- progress I’d say.

There was a lad from Jesmond arrested for a similar thing just recently to do with Stan Collymore I think, there are idiots everywhere unfortunately.

niafron, thanks for the phrase, I just love it:

“so will wait a bit before jumping out of my underpants”

I think there have been plenty on this blog “jumping out their underpants” far too prematurely. 😉

The worrying thing for me is that I remember 20 years ago when Jim Davidson etc could get away with saying something like that on prime time TV long before the watershed, and nobody seemed to care. Different generations I suppose. I guess that’s why you never see the dinosaur comedians any more. Attitudes like that died out a long time ago, shame some people haven’t learned to move on like the rest of us. When my step father was till alive he was all for bringing back slavery, and Enoch Powell quotes. No wonder he never had any friends.

Regards Rhys Williams, I would definitely take him. He’s far too good for the Boro. Can play across the back 4 comfortably, and in midfield. He can also place a pass with great accuracy and put a tackle in. The only concern I have is that some Boro fans think he is lazy. He does look lethargic at times, but only because he makes it all look too simple.
