Racial Slurs At Newcastle Players – 29 Year-Old Man Arrested

There have been racial comments made on social networking sites  yesterday directed towards Newcastle United.

It seems the slurs were  based on the number of  black players the Newcastle club have on its books, and of course we just signed another top Senegal International – Papiss Cisse – yesterday.

The news is that police officers in Newcastle  received a number of complaints yesterday, after a user on the Twitter social networking site posted the racial comments.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman made this statement today:

“We have received a report of racist comments made on Twitter. Northumbria Police takes all reports of racist abuse very seriously and inquiries are being conducted.”

“A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and he is being held in custody.”

A spokesman for the Newcaste United club said the following today:

“Newcastle United are appalled by the racist comments made on Twitter in reference to the club and its players.”

“Newcastle United has a zero tolerance approach to racism and will be working with Northumbria Police to identify those responsible for such abhorrent remarks.”

The Newcastle Journal is reporting that police were contacted a number of times via email from around 6:00pm local time yesterday evening, complaining about the racial comments.

We support all efforts to eliminate racial discrimination in both football and in society in general.

Newcastle have black players in their squad like Cheick Tiote, Demba Ba and now Papiss Cisse, and that’s simply because they are the best – that’s one way to look at it.

We don’t care what color or creed the Newcastle players are – it makes absolutely no difference on the football field – and it makes no difference in life.

We could all probably try to be more tolerant towards people who our different from ourselves, in whatever way that may be.

Comments welcome.
