In this fixture last season Newcastle were beaten 1-0.
That was the Wednesday evening following Andy Carroll’s transfer to Liverpool, and some of the players – like Jose Enrique and Joey Barton as two examples – were not happy at all that Newcastle had just sold one of their best players.
And there were a lot of Newcastle players in that game who were way below their best on the night, so there’s a chance tomorrow to make up for one of the poorest performances of a Newcastle side under Alan Pardew.
Fulham will be wanting to make up for the terrible beating they took at Blackburn Rovers last weekend, when they were playing 10 men after 22 minutes after Yakubu was sent off for a lunging tackle with his boot around waist height or higher.
The score in the game at the time was 0-0 but Blackburn managed to get their 4th win in the league this season, playing with 10 men against a woeful looking Fulham side.
Fulham have not fared well this season with Martin Jol as their new manager, and they are currently in 14th place in the league table with 23 points from their 21 games.
It’s interesting to note that before Alan Pardew was appointed manger back in December of 2010, Martin Jol had just resigned from Ajax, and a huge majority of Newcastle fans preferred him as the new Newcastle manager.
In fact here’s the poll we took at the time.
Who Do You Like Between These Three Newcastle Candidates?
- Martin Jol (66%, 409 )
- None Of The Above (25%, 154 )
- Alan Pardew (6%, 38 )
- Alan Curbishley (2%, 15 )
Total Voters: 616
And you can see Alan got just 6% of the vote, 36 votes out of the 616 cast, but he’s done just great over the last 13 months on Tyneside, and Newcastle are in 6th place with 36 points from their 21 games.
Hey – maybe Alan was the right choice after all. 😀
Newcastle will be without Yohan Cabaye, since he’s still suffering from the ankle injury he picked up with that flying tackle by Shaun Derry on Sunday.
Mehdi Abeid, Dan Gosling, Haris Vuckic or Alan Smith could come in for Yohan tomorrow, or the Newcastle manager could even play Ryan Taylor in central midfield, as he did after Cabaye left the field injured last Sunday afternoon.
And we think Ryan Taylor will just edge out Mehdi Abeid because of his greater experience, along with his good performance of last Sunday.
Danny Guthrie has a slight knock but is expected to be fit for the game tomorrow, and that’s good news because Danny was great in his first match back last Sunday.
So this is the side we think will represent Newcastle tomorrow at Craven Cottage:
Krul
Simpson Coloccini (c) Williamson Santon
Ben Arfa Taylor (R) Guthrie Gutierrez
Ameobi (Sh) Best
Subs: Elliot Perch Gosling Obertan Abeid Lovenkrands Ferguson
That’s assuming Peter Lovenkrands is fit again, and we have him on the bench, and Newcastle may need Peter to score some goals in the next few games.
The Newcastle defense will again be key for tomorrow’s game, and we hope another solid performance from them will see us get yet another clean sheet, and we’ve had four of them in the last six games played, which is very impressive.
And with Demba Ba away in Africa playing tomorrow in their first game of the African Cup of Nations for Senegal against Zambia, along with his new Newcastle colleague Papiss Cisse, we have to hope somebody can score the goals for the Magpies tomorrow.
Last weekend Leon Best stepped up to the plate and got a great opportunist goal, for his 4th goal of the season, and Shola Ameobi is definitely due a goal, having scored only one goal so far this season.
We have Ben Arfa starting out on the right wing, because he is both a goal threat himself, and he can also carve up any defense and set up opportunities for the two big strikers up front with his immense skills.
Newcastle should be able to take something out of the game tomorrow, and even a win is possible.
We’d like to see another solid performance from the lads tomorrow, but we need to start a lot quicker than we did last Sunday in those first 20 minutes, when QPR dominated and could have been two goals ahead with a little luck.
A good start and an energetic performance tomorrow and Newcastle can take something out of this game tomorrow.
What do you think – and let us know what team you would start and why.

Comment #88If we take pings and place them an inch or two to stockdale the ball will go in. Looking over their last games and game especially against Blackburn, every shot that was placed an inch or two either side of him went it, and they weren’t the most vicious strikes you’d see

Comment #89Personally I see Shola scoring loads before Ba and Cisse get back and keeping them out of the starting 11 until the end of the season…then I expect Liverpool to offer 20m for him (not the full 35 as he’s getting on a bit)

Comment #91I wonder if a statue of Shola will be erected outside St James when he packs it in, do you think he will have his hands in his pockets if they do, think the new strip has pockets in his shorts, it would be a nice touch by Puma to do that for such a legend.

Comment #103thats some prediction i must say, very positive, wouldnt even wish Shola on the bindippers, no really i think shola has talent but hes knackered after 30 minutes so its pointless starting him ever, good impact sub though, and i imagine a decent lad to have at the club, reckon he makes a mean homemade chocolate brownie, made with philidelphia light of course.

It was a vision. And a bloody good one. He’s perfect for what we look for; skilful, young, prem experience, plays our style. What more could we ask for?
P.s. he’s free in the summer as well. It’s meant to be.

The trouble is I think that Steve Kean is a dellusional type of chap and probably thinks Blackburn can stay up and keep on to him.
