There’s no doubt that Alan Pardew is ambitious.
Alan Pardew – would take England manager job
But when the Newcastle first team squad travels to Tenerife today, Pardew and the other Newcastle coaches will have their work cut out to get the Newcastle team back together again, after their calamitous collapse yesterday afternoon at Craven Cottage in that disastrous second half.
It was very hard for Newcastle fans to watch, when from the 52nd to the 69th minute Fulham scored four goals, and could have had even more, such was the pathetic defending of the Newcastle side.
But two of those were penalties given by referee Lee Mason, and the first one turned the game completely in Fulham’s favor, when Davide Santon was adjudged to have pushed former Newcastle player Damien Duff, but it happened outside the penalty box.
The Magpies had looked great in the first half and had deservedly taken a 1-0 lead through a bullet left foot shot from Danny Guthrie, but they lost it all in that 17 minutes of utter despair from the 52nd minute on.
It will be a very good test of Alan Pardew’s management skills if he can get the lads ready for the next few games, which are a tough FA Cup 4th round tie at Brighton on Saturday, followed by a league game at Blackburn the following Wednesday night, and then a home game against Aston Villa two weeks today.
Newcastle can right the ship very quickly with a few good wins in those three upcoming games, and that’s exactly what we are hoping for.
We’ve always known Alan Pardew was ambitious, and he’ll want to continue doing well at the Newcastle club, because after that he wants to manage on the continent, and if the offer of taking over as the England manager ever came up – he’d take it.
This is what Alan said on Friday about the England job:
“Right now I’m fully behind Harry. I hope he gets it because he’d understand that role. He’s experienced enough and has the motivational devices to succeed.”
“Hopefully I’ll get myself into a position where I’m experienced enough to be able to do that. I want to be at the top of my profession.”
“I’d like to expand myself and manage overseas but, ultimately, would I like to be England manager at some stage if I was lucky enough to be asked? Yes.”
Pardew is only one of three English managers in the Premier League at the moment, with the other two being the red hot favorite for the England job – Harry Redknapp – and West Brom’s Roy Hodgson.
It’s been a weird season with some shock results in the Premier League, that’s for sure.
And in an attempt to make the pain of Newcastle’s defeat yesterday a little bit easier to take for the Geordie fans, we remind people that Arsenal were hammered 8-2 at Manchester United and then the Red Devils themselves were hammered d 6-1 by local rivals Manchester City.
It seems if you are a good team, you have to take a whacking at least once this season – that’s only if you are any good of course.
Well that’s at least one way of looking at the debacle of yesterday.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Jasper – more than that, Johnson is a savvy kid – Krul must dive to make himself as big as possible for the shot – instead Johnson sends it to the side with no intention of following. Watch it again and see him deliberately surge on, sans ballon, into the hapless Krul to manufacture the decision. Easy when you know how.

Comment #82Tsunki – stop making such a big deal about fans being upset about the loss; we played shocking, a lot of us paid money to see that match and we were let down by an effortless second half.. it was a very poor show. We don’t need all your metaphoric condemnations thankyou.

I think Johnson bought the penalty completely, but I think the ref has absolutely no option but to give it.

I think you’ll find the “I had a phone call with Sir Alex and persuaded him to let me have Gabby” is evidence enough !!!!!
Pardew wouldnt know a quality player from his R’s hole, Mascherano and Tevez are prime examples of a manager failing to work with talent.
If England want him then good luck to them I’d rather have Rodgers or even Lambert ?

Comment #91In a way a want it to be a Senegal vrs Ivory Coast final just so the boys will come back either delighted and firing on all cylinders about reaching final.. cos if they get knocked out straight away they will be leaving under massive abuse from fans and they will be depressed and might take them longer to start firing again… But on a newcastle fans side a would love to have them back tomorrow lol end of the day Newcastle comes first.. same as if we had newcastle winning the league or England winning the world cup ad want newcastle to win the league before england

Comment #92TDS @84 – yep I have to be a man & say I agree. It was a no-win the minute he kicked the ball out of Krul’s way. Part and parcel of a bad day.
also Toonboy – no offense meant to the rational y’know. I too have spent many a pound on some abysmal displays but I only regret the ones where the likes of Kluivert or Geriatrimi and the likes ponced about on huge salaries shoving it right up us.

Comment #96It was Pardews idea to make Ben Arfas deal perm soon as he came in… he’s persuaded the board the sign Ba… And Obertan is only young and he will get better he just needs to get used to the english game, it took Enrique and Colo a full year and they played alot more than Obertan has.. If we never got relegated they would of been sold straight and also because we went down it helped them otherwise they could of possibly struggled again

Yeah you lot always seem to forget the third party problems with tevez mascherano and west ham nit to mention tge fact that none of the management team scouted or signed tevez it was a dodgy deal where a board member struck the deal with an agent not knowing the club had to pay compenstation to the third party ownership everytime they played in fact the half season they did play cost WHUFC £21million in compensation
So dont spout to much BS about pards not knowing talent when your going on half facts

Yeah… Pardew signing Ba was poor wasn’t it.
And your comments on the Tevez & Mascherano situation mean you clearly have no idea about that particular situation.

I don’t know wher you get off calling people small minded morons. Sick of your superior, pompous, know it all attitude.
If you’re going to be absusive and totally incapable of reasoned argument with anyone who doesnt necessarily agree with you, why bother coming on here and droning on in with your sanctimonious drivel.
Nothing to do with people being in africa, the tactics were wrong. Accept it.

Comment #103End of the day Pardew gets a final say on the incoming transfers if he wants them same as every manager with they chief scout… he tells the scouts to go find me players for this position matching this criteria and the scout does it and reccomends certain players with a higher reccomendation for 1 or 2 in particular then Pardew will either go an watch like he did with Cabaye or he will study videos.. then he will approach asking for such and such to be signed or atleast attempted to sign

No one is calling for pardew’s head, not me any way, but I just wish he would eradicate these frustrating blind spots which are preventing him making the step up from very good manager to top manager.
As Jol showed us, you need to be able to change things when it’s not going for you.
watchign all those goals go in that were almost all identical and not addressing it in any fashion was toe curling and then to send perch on, – what was that all about when we neeeded some more attacking threat.

Comment #110Rotonda heights – Its not as if he has many options is it?
Our squad is far too thin and with Ba and Tiote away it limits what he can do. Strolla and Best were poor but who is there that can come on for them, Lovern is injured, so we are left with Alan smith or an academy player, the same for the midfield.
Pardews hands are tied to a point

Comment #111Please don’t keep saying it was down to Pardew’s genius or Shola’s physical play that we beat Man Utd. Fact is Blackburn already showed Pardew how to play when they beat them the previous match, and Shola was playing against 2 midfielders in defense. It would have been a travesty if we didn’t beat them tbh!

Comment #112Either Vuckic or HBA can play up top with Best. We had both Obertan and Raylor on the bench effectively the whole match, and I would rather have them on the pitch any day than that donkey up front. But Pardew didn’t even bother changing things once during the shitstorm.

Comment #114Benry – HBA and Vukic have never been played as a striker, and people have been calling for Raylor and Obertan to be dropped all season, so if either of them had come on then that would have been wrong, so either way Pardew would be slammed by short sighted fans.

try and keep up. 5 points out of 27 was this season.
Pardew gets all the plaudits and rightly so with results like manu etc, but it’s like we are not allowed to say anything or be even remotely miffed if Pards gets anything slightly wrong.

Comment #117rotonda – your reply to boater has just proved him correct. And what you accuse him of seems a little hypocritical, doesn’t it. He has an opinion, and sure you might not like it. You have an opinion, and I might not like it. That’s why we are here. What boater is talking about are the posters who are like the teen gormless who SkySports seek out for interviews who undoubtedly have passion for their club, but think that SBR is an alcopop. Dont rail against those who get upset at the idiots because you just end up looking like one, and that wouldn’t be good, would it?

Comment #118Jack both HBA and Vuckic have experience of playing as the ‘second striker’, that is even what HBA desires the most! Yes fans have been calling for Obertan to be dropped all season, but the point I am trying to make is that if something isn’t working, change the way you are doing things. Pardew’s only response was to bring on Perch after we were 4-1 down!
