The dream of Jason Prior to win a contract with Newcastle United has ended.
Jason Prior – in action for Newcastle Reserves
The 23-year-old Bognor Regis striker made big news at the end of last year, when it was revealed he would be getting a trial at Newcastle.
Jason has spent the last three weeks or so at Newcastle, and has been training with the Development squad, and he scored a good goal for the Newcastle Reserve side in their 3-1 win against Wigan on January 9th, in front of a watching Alan Pardew.
Prior had scored more than 95 goals in 121 appearances over two-and-a-half seasons for Bognor Regis, who play in the Ryman League, and he was going to move to Eastleigh on a transfer for £12K, before Newcastle moved in during late December.
Although the word on Jason was that he looked good in training over the last few weeks, Newcastle have decided against signing the player, and the fairy tale ending a lot of us were hoping for – has not happened.
But the news is that both Brighton & Hove Albion, who are Newcastle’s opponents this Saturday in the FA Cup 4th round, and Wimbledon, are said to be keen to offer the striker a chance in the lower leagues.
We hope Jason gets that chance, bit his Newcastle dream has now ended – unfortunately.
