Jason Prior’s Newcastle Dream Ends – Doesn’t Get Contract

7:59 am, Monday, January 23rd, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 20 Comments

The dream of Jason Prior to win a contract with Newcastle United has ended.

Jason Prior - in action for Newcastle Reserves

The 23-year-old Bognor Regis striker made big news at the end of last year,  when it was revealed he would be getting a trial at Newcastle.

Jason has spent the last three weeks or so at Newcastle, and has been training with the Development squad, and he scored a good goal for the Newcastle Reserve side in their  3-1 win against Wigan on January 9th, in front of a watching Alan Pardew.

Prior had scored more than 95 goals in 121 appearances over two-and-a-half seasons for Bognor Regis, who play in the Ryman League, and he was going to move to Eastleigh on a transfer for £12K,  before Newcastle moved in during late December.

Although the word on Jason was that he looked good in training over the last few weeks,  Newcastle have decided against signing the player,  and the fairy tale ending a lot of us were hoping for – has not happened.

But the news is that both Brighton & Hove Albion, who are Newcastle’s opponents this Saturday in the FA Cup 4th round, and Wimbledon,  are said to be keen to offer the striker a chance in the lower leagues.

We hope Jason gets that chance, bit his Newcastle dream has now ended - unfortunately.

Comments welcome.

Sad for the lad but it got him noticed and he will get a contract at a better level than he expected beforehand

Prior is the worst player ever to wear the stripes. Absolutely useless get him out of my sight. Not fit to lace Michael Chopras boots.

Cisse you better hit the ground running or this is how we’ll treat you. The greatest fans in the land.

ever seen him play temuri? or you just think he’s poor because you haven’t heard of him and he’s from a small club?

    @ Ben.

No mate. On a serious note I hear he could be championship standard so good on us for trialling him and putting him in the shop window.

Shame some fans don’t have the same class as the club. Which is what my post was a comment on.

@temuri your comment made my p**s boil mate your dig about prior is unfounded you seen him play?? and ya little jibe about cisse if he dont hit the ground running this is how we will treat him maybe fans like you not the majority of us real fans will give him time at least

Strange this Prior situation because Pardew himself said yesterday that Prior will play against Man U on Thursday and the decision will be made then as to whether we keep him on or not.

In fact he also says Prior was very encouraging but suffered a bit of a knock and that’s why his trial has been hampered a bit.

Conflicting with Steve Wraith but hey auld Stevie’s been wrong before.

Would seem strange to be to give him such a short trial, especially if the lad had been injured a bit as well. It would cost nowt to keep him on a bit longer.

Err boys I think you’ll find TemuriKetsbiai had his tongue firmly lodged in his cheek with his original comment.
He was having a humorous pop at the so called ‘fans’ who slag players off ( of which i have done many a time in the past) with venom when they don’t play well.

    I take his point.

    Nice one Temuri! :-)

    @7 Christ you’re dumb.

I write an ironic comment which clearly slates “fans” who slag of their own players, namely Shola.

I even explain the comment (post 6).

You take it as a literal statement. *facepalm(slide-down-slow)*

Good luck to the guy in the future….would’ve loved if we signed him up, I hope he gets a contract at Brighton or somewhere good! I thought he would’ve got more of a chance here to be honest, since his only game in front of Pards was the Wigan reserves when he scored.

The lad trained well, looked good and scored a decent goal in the only trial game he played in.
What were they expecting from a striker? A six goal salvo and a Messi type performance?
Couldn’t be any worse than Shola and look at the chances he’s had..

COULDNT AGREE MORE, WHAT A PATHETIC COMMENT TO MAKE TEMURI… WE HAVE SCOUTED A LAD FROM A LOWER LEAGUE WHO HAS AN AMAZING STRIKE RATE AND COULD HAVE BEEN A POTENTIAL BARGAIN, FAIR PLAY TO THE KID…THE WORST PLAYER YOUVE SEEN IN STRIPES..HMMM..AND WHAT HAPPENS IF PAPISS DOESNT “HIT THE GROUND RUNNING”SHOULD WE GIVE HIM A HARD TIME?!…

  • 14 arctoa // Jan 23, 2012 at 1:36 PM

Normal Person + Anonymity + Audience = Total Dickface.

On a serious note, I’m fairly surprised we didn’t offer him a contract and ship him off to Gateshead for the rest of the season.

  • 15 thebionicMAG // Jan 23, 2012 at 1:41 PM

    toonarmybarmy.
Have you not read the posts since? Temuri was joking. He explained he was joking. I explained he was joking yet still you guys are having a pop at him. One more time…HE WAS JOKING! THE JOKE WAS AIMED AT FANS WHO HARSHLY SLAG OUR PLAYERS OFF. PLAYERS LIKE SHOLA.

    TemuriKetsbaia // Jan 23, 2012 at 9:57 AM

Mate, don’t bother trying to explain to them.
Many of us have tried many, many, many, times and some people just never seem to get it.
Funnily enough, the people who get uppity about being called bad fans are more often than not the ones you are describing.
Me thinks thou dost protest too much. (or something like that)

    TK # 2, 3 and 6

Nice one pal, yes far too many people on here spew vitriol at players with absolutely no grounds for it and even your little jibe at them through comment # 3 didn’t stop the pathetic Shola comment at # 12

    ste_rico_nufc # 7 and toonarmybarmy # 13

I really think you should read Temuri’s comments again, or have someone read them for you ESPECIALLY COMMENT # 6 you will see that his is not really commenting on the lad but taking the p*ss out of the various neggers that come on here slagging players they know little about.

Temuri’s comment @ # 3 is spot on highlighting the needless comments towards our players like Shola, which is then followed up right on cue by post # 7, wynsleap you really have to be a prize man tit equal only to brutooon to follow Temuri’s sarcasm in post # 3 with your comment on Shola especially after his post @ # 6

  • 18 xmindcrimex // Jan 23, 2012 at 4:15 PM

I’m just astounded that some posters didn’t get Temuri’s post at all. Just wow.
