Newcastle Move To Bring Dutch International In On Loan

10:46 pm, Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 197 Comments

There’s a report in the Daily Mirror that Newcastle are after Dutch international winger Eljero Elia on loan.

Dutch International winger Eljero Elia

The 26 times capped Dutch International only joined Juventus from Hamburg last summer, but has only played three times for the Italian club.

Italy doesn’t seem to have suited the winger too much, and we suppose Newcastle are trying to get him on loan with a view to possibly signing him permanently in the summer.

And of course the 5’10″ winger could also help Newcastle’s drive to qualify for Europe this season.

The 24 year-old is unhappy at not getting any playing time in Italy, and it seems there is a good chance the loan move will be completed.

The player started his career at Den Haag back in 2004, before moving to FC Twente in the summer of 2007.

He played 59 times for Den Haag with 6 goals and 3 assists and was at Twente for two seasons,  where he played 73 times with 15 goals and 6 assists.

Elia spent two seasons at Hamburg before joining Juventus last summer, and he played for the Bundesliga side 63 times with 8 goals and 11 assists.

Elia made his debut for Holland in September of 2009 against Japan in a friendly match, when he came on at half-time replacing Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben.

He was named Dutch Football Talent of the Year in 2009.

Eljero Elia could do a job for Newcastle through the end of the season,  if we can get him in.

Here’s hoping.

Comments welcome.

Untrue, we don’t do loans, no financial gain whatsoever unless there’s an option to buy at the end.

    Dannyo,
Any way whats the latest news on the tweeter front,I’m going to abuse that ‘mikeashleyisamackem’next time he pops up for claiming to have a mate in the airport,at least Beattie25 has got a mate in EVERY viable mode of private and public transport keeping an eye out for him.

  • 14 davybtoon // Jan 25, 2012 at 10:52 PM

there will defo b an option to buy with this deal thats the only way we do loan deals

  • 15 JackButler // Jan 25, 2012 at 10:54 PM

    Have I missed something?

We are being linked with Morrison, Zaha and now Elia.

Have we signed a centre half that I don’t know about?

  • 16 WWJBD // Jan 25, 2012 at 10:54 PM

    Cant see this happening

  • 17 davybtoon // Jan 25, 2012 at 10:56 PM

wwjbd – why not he aint playing at juve hes played twice in 5 month clearly dont rate why is beyond me very similar to ben arfa type deal

  • 18 Beattie25 // Jan 25, 2012 at 10:57 PM

Hi guys. I work as an Air Baloon Driver and I’ve just been booked by ‘Richard ‘Dick’ Branson to make a return trip to Italy to pick up 3 men. There names were:

    Mr. Y Benalouane
    Mr. E Elia
    Mr. S Uper-Mario

  • 19 boardman64 // Jan 25, 2012 at 10:58 PM

Very good player, really can’t see us getting him though, Juventus will want too much for him and we aren’t desperate for another winger so I can’t see Ashley splashing any cash on him

  • 20 t00ntime // Jan 25, 2012 at 10:59 PM

this isnt true cause elia wud cost 10/12mil after the loan and we dont loan players cause we cant make money of em

but Elia is a youg(ish) talent who is quick and can dribble has an eye for a pass BUT he does a walcot quite often where he does everything right but cant pass… unless we are selling ben arfa there is no point as ben arfa wont get a game anywhere else but RW
we already know pardew said CF but he hasnt been good as CF pardew can see that too…

elia wud take benny’s place on the wing… so cant see it happening

  • 21 Dannyo // Jan 25, 2012 at 10:59 PM

    @Jail
Lol ye, Beattie knows allot of people, i reckon u saw his posts earlier then. I found Miss A. Nall Over quite amusing :P
Not much mate, the names i’ve seen pop up today are:

    - Faouzi Ghoulam
    - Virgil Van Dijk

Otherwise nothing new really, just rumours.

  • 22 Jail for Ashley // Jan 25, 2012 at 10:59 PM

Interesting,I wonder what that could mean ?

  • 23 WWJBD // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:00 PM

Purely cos its a loan deal and he joined Juve for 9 million euros in August on a 4 year deal

  • 24 Dannyo // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:00 PM

    @JB
    We’re giving Streete a new contract, he’s turned 17, it’ll be like a new signing!! :P

  • 25 davybtoon // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:02 PM

ALTHOUGH he can also play LW so if we can get a good deal wudnt be bad
    —————krul
    simpson-wil–colo–santon

now thats a great team lol
    or

    same back 5
    cabaye—tiote—elia
    benny—-cisse—Ba

4-3-3 wud also be good ;-)

but cant see the deal coming off

Would be a great signing. We signed Ben Arfa on loan so I don’t agree with the statement about us not signing loan players. With him and Cisee we’d have a lot more pace too.

  • 29 JackButler // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:03 PM

Dannyo – Hoping for another surprise like we had with Cisse but only this time with a centre half, someone like M’Biwa or Douglas :)

  • 30 Thump // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:03 PM

@JB: Not yet but I’m in discussions with the club ;)

  • 31 Crawfordladd17 // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:03 PM

could happen if a choice of a perement deal at the end because he was bought for £7.5m and he will be “cut price” so maybe £5m which is possible

  • 32 Level 7 Hero // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:04 PM

This could be true… the financial gain wouldnt be on the player necessarily, but with our league standing at the end of the season.

  • 33 JackButler // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:05 PM

Funny how Barcelona always try and take the moral high ground, yet Busquets is a terrible terrible human being.

Fabregas faining injury as well? Absolutely pathetic.

  • 36 davybtoon // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:08 PM

wwjbd when has hba said he wants away jus aload of idiots on here making crap up hes forced his way onto the right wing

  • 37 Dannyo // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:09 PM

    @Jail
Lol, i may copy that one from u. Should shut her up for more than 5 seconds :P

    @JB
I don’t think a bid or two in the closing hours of the window would go amiss. For both Hoilett and Douglas. Both out of contract in the summer, clubs looking to get paid… Twente is in a poor financial position, and Blackburn is in a poor position overall. Better to do it now than wait and have 20 clubs swarming over them.

  • 38 Level 7 Hero // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:09 PM

Watford claimed our offer for Mariappa was ridiculous, insulting and way less than they’d ever accept.

They’ve offered him an improved contract earning him a extra:

    800 quid a week.
    .
He knocked it back. I’d find that quite insulting as a player.

  • 39 WWJBD // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:10 PM

In private he could of said it numerous times we dont know and never will. Also forced his way onto the RW? Haha howay man he doesnt even want to play there

  • 40 davybtoon // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:11 PM

what a suprise ppl saying hba wants away why is that bcoz hes started playing well u lot need stop this crap, as soon as someone starts playing well first thing is he will b sold boils my piss

  • 41 Hatem // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:11 PM

I dont believe rumours, Newcastle don’t sign players that are rumoured, thats why I think we will sign some suprise centre back- quality of course.

How many wingers do we need though….HBA, Jonas, Marveux, Raylor, Obertan.

  • 46 davybtoon // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:12 PM

wwjbd he has to play there its his best position he jus not as good in that no10 role n now ba n cisse hes no chance of playing there

  • 47 t00ntime // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:12 PM

wud u level 7? I don’t know how much you earn but for me an 800 quid per week raise to do nothing drifferent to what I’m already doing? is quite alot lol

  • 50 ToonDownSouth // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:16 PM

Obviously lol. No one makes up transfer rumors about Alan Smith or Lover – that would be dumb. People are just worried because HBA didn’t go to Teneriff with the squad, which is a little strange. It’s only a 2 hour flight.

  • 51 free giveaways // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:17 PM

Elia is right footed but plays on the left though, does that mean he’d take Jonas’s place?

  • 52 Dannyo // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:17 PM

    @JB
Hehe, well, if the last minute effort means we get one of them, then i’m game ;) But we won’t know will we.
I think it could very much happen. Mariappa wont happen tho, so it could be a waiting game to snatch someone within the last 72 hours from now on…

    @davy
We like to play with 2 strikers, HBA says himself he wants the nr 10 role, and Pardew has said he sees him in that role, and i think he could work well there tbh.
    But we’re never gonna play a 4-3-1-2 or a 4-1-2-1-2 unless it’s tactically feesable.
    So WWJBD has a point.
However, i think HBA leaving is a load of rubbish, atleast as of yet.

  • 53 Level 7 Hero // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:17 PM

    @t00ntime

As a footballer I would, if a bigger team wants me who Newcastle are in this case, and i knew I’d be getting 5, 6, 7 grand more at Newcastle and be playing at a higher level,

then my current club Watford offered me 800 quid a week more to stay and fend off competition from the bigger club and reward my form… yeah i’d be pretty offended.

Obvo the money these players earn is a joke, but that is a different arguement.

  • 54 WWJBD // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:18 PM

    davy
Haha what was that random outburst for haha

And I dont disagree that he is better at RW than ST however u said he forced his way onto the right wing which isnt true he has failed to force his way into the ST position and Pards has stuck him in the place he doesnt want to play

  • 55 supatoonkid // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:18 PM

He’s a quality player but I would prefer Zaha or Moses

  • 56 Dannyo // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:19 PM

We’re forgetting one important bit of information on this rumour tho lads, it’s from the Daily Mirror…

  • 57 TinoToon // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:19 PM

Elia played on Euro2008. left winger, run like a bullet, i will say he can produce much better than Obertan. But his price is just to much for Fat Man.

  • 58 WWJBD // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:20 PM

For the record I dont think HBA wants to leave was merely drawing similarities between the two situations

  • 59 davybtoon // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:20 PM

n pardew said hba wud never play on the wing under him until he realised thats his best position

  • 64 JackButler // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:22 PM

Dannyo – Agree with you mate that the Mariappa deal is dead, the club don’t like talking about their business in public and the Watford Chairman was on TalkSport earlier today plus he’s gone to the press so for me Ashley and Co would have already walked away from that one.
Regarding the last day of the window, yeah your right if it gets us the players we’re after and need, then fair enough, just going to need to get some Valium in before hand

  • 65 WWJBD // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:23 PM

This is pretty exciting news- he was very explosive in the world cup when he came on.

On Zaha- watch, I would rather we go for the more expensive Nathan Redmond who is only 17 but looks a genuine prospect- electric pace, great touch, skillful, good shot, good cross and again, only 17!

  • 75 davybtoon // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:29 PM

sky sports understands weve had a 6mill bid accepted for boro captain matthew bates

  • 76 Premiership Manager // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:29 PM

We have to many midfielders already and it would make far more sense to buy a player who can fill the role of both CB & LB. Although HBA can play on the wing so can Jonas, Gosling, Raylor, Guthrie, Samy Ameobi, Obertan, Ferguson, (I would love to see him given a run in the first team), and Santon. Infact I would prefer to Santon on the wing rather in defence as his technical abilty is better than most in the team.

With Ba and Cisse our prioity has to be a CB and it would be a bonus if he could also play at LB. Unless there are things going on behind the scenes i.e. one or two players may be going, we should either buy a young CB or loan an established player like Bassong to tide us through to next season.

By then we will know if we are in Europe and also what our commitments were for the following season. In addition we would also know who which contracts will be renewed and who will be leaving in the summer.

  • 77 Dannyo // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:29 PM

    @JB
We’ll see mate, as we all know by now, both us fans and journos knows little to nothing what goes on in the club transfer wise. It’s very much a case of keeping the cards close to their chests concerning transfers, and there’s only tactical benefits to that.
Bit of a shame tho, would be nice to hear a name coming out of Pards mouth once in a while atleast, but then we’d get accused of tapping up, like in the summer.
    We’ll see, we’ll see, but here’s hoping.

Beattie, in forgetting Jonas and Santon, No way a player like Elia will do the defensive job, and Santon like we saw last saturday needs cover. I really hope Pardew star Ben Arfa on RW (a kind of free role), BA and Cissé up front.
Anyway this Elia link is bullshit that player on paper must have a price like Alex Chamberlain. 10 M my guess…

  • 82 Level 7 Hero // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:32 PM

The thing about this regime is, if we dont get the players we want for our price, then they will have no hesitiation of just letting the transfer deadline pass without getting a player in. They will not go over there price or be dictated to by other clubs.

I think that by alot of fans, including myself, got mistaken as a bad thing, and the board trying to cover up that they were doing nout and didnt intend on doing anything. But obvo they were just holding out for right price.

The N’Zogbia and Ruiz sagas were fishy at the time like.

Reminds me alot of how Arsene Wenger used to be before the panic buy of Merteseker, Arteta & Co. Never went over his price for a player, even if his team desperately needed that new player, his team were struggling in that position, he would rather stick in a 17 year old kid than pay over the odds for a player.

    Worked for Arsenal.

  • 83 Jail for Ashley // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:32 PM

I’ve said this before on here,HBA should play where he’s fu*#ing well told, and tbh I havent heard anywhere except from on here that he’s got a problem with that, its only rumours that say he’s not happy unless he gets a specific role and thats why he left Marseille, bla bla,I’m sure with the work ethic Pards has seemed to have installed HBA would be glad to play anywhere to get a start.

Despite Ryan’s goalscoring form, the pair have been the weaker links in an otherwise sturday Magpies back four and the club could dip back into the transfer market for the Welsh international <<< Never knew Santon has been our weak link in defence like

  • 90 Beattie25 // Jan 25, 2012 at 11:35 PM

The difference between Pardew and Wenger is that Wenger would put a 17 year old in.

Pardew would rather play Perch than Streete at CB and you wont need me to tell you who I would rather see play.

But in saying that I do like our current transfer mentality.

we just need to make sure those two mugs best and ameobi never pull on a toon shirt again.

they are both a disgrace to the team. lazy and useless. we may as well play with 9 in the team rather than have 2 clowns up front.

luckily both will be in the reserves soon and good ridance to them.

anybody that cant see how bad they are needs to give themself a shake.

I feel sorry for pardew having to put out a team containing those two when its his job on the line. I’m sure he will have plans to get rid of them both asap.

Jail for Ashley, the reason Pardew doesn’t play Hatem on RW must be related to Simmo, I think we need a stand alone full back. I thought that on the left side of the pitch the issue was sorted out with Santon, but he’s the kind of player that goes up front like a early G. Bale, so a Jonas sometimes ends like the full back… last saturday that misundertanding cost us the match.

That’s not exactly true. Arsenal have played with 4 center backs for a month, when they had a young RB ready to step in – and finally did on Sunday, to great effect.

Center back just isn’t a position you can stick someone with no experience. Perch obviously doesn’t work either, but there’s no choice.

That is, assuming Kadar is dead.

  • 195 jesperfuglsang // Jan 26, 2012 at 9:36 AM

Senegal is playing their last game against Libya on January 29 – so in theory both Ba and Papisto could be back on January 30, right?

  • 196 Jail for Ashley // Jan 26, 2012 at 9:41 AM
