Coloccini Out – Perch, Santon And Ameobi Start At Brighton

Fabricio Coloccini doesn’t make the game at Brighton this afternoon, and in comes James Perch to partner Mike Williamson at the back.

The Newcastle captain was a doubt with a groin strain,  and it’s always better to go safety first with these types of injuries, and hopefully Fab will be fit for the league game at Blackburn on Wednesday night.

Colo suffered the slight groin injury during training on Thursday.

But apart from that Alan Pardew picks the same starting line-up that went crashing 5-2 at Fulham last Saturday afternoon, so Davide Santon retains his place at left back, as we had expected,  but surprisingly Shola Ameobi also retains his place up front.

Hatem Ben Arfa, who’s become a goal threat over the last  five games or so with 3 excellent goals, starts again on the right wing.

It’s an important game this afternoon, and a win will see us in the round of the last 16 in the FA Cup.

Forgotten 21 year-old Hungarian center-back Tamas Kadar is on the bench, along with Elliot,  Ferguson, Ryan Taylor,  Gosling,  Obertan and  Lovenrkands.

Brighton & Hove Albion (4-3-3) Brezovan; Calderon, Greer, Dunk, El-Abd; Bridcutt, Sparrow, Forster-Caskey; Buckley, Mackail-Smith, Barnes
Subs: Ankergren (GK), Hoskins, Navarro, Harley, Vincelot, Agdestein, Hall

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1):  Krul;  Simpson,  Williamson, Perch,  Santon;  Guthrie,  Cabaye; Ben Arfa, Gutierrez, Best;  Ameobi
Subs: Elliot,  Ferguson, Kadar,  Taylor,  Gosling,  Obertan,  Lovenrkands

Probably the strongest line-up we could have lads. There’s no point in complaining about it, several players there who should outclass Brighton vastly.
Also, Shola is captain, that could up his game a notch or two tbh.
Kadar on the bench, only to be in the shopping window.

shola….seriously, wtf. the worst part in all is that it’s a catch 22 with him. If he plays poorly as most suspect it will impact the team and the outcome. If he plays well pards will give him another elongated, undeserved run in the team. truly the proverbial double edged sword if ever there were one

    check out foxsoccer.tv

they play every EPL match and the price is really reasonable. you can get a month long preview for a pittance (think 10USD, 6GBP)

i really thought today would have been a good one to start. he was surrounding by expectation at ManU, trying to come good here and he really needs a confidence building match. i’d have said give him a shot today, if he doesn’t produce, take it from there

i’ve heard forest supporters were alright with him leaving, but fair play from what we saw of him when he was at RB or LB when we played forest in the league….he was immense

i think in no way shape or form now is he the right kind of “squad” player to have in our ranks if we continue our ascent, but he’s here now and right or wrong (wrongly, imo) we’ve got to support him in the meantime.

still think kadar should’ve been given his chance. shame to again not see either mehdi or vuckic even on the bench

you’re spot on. we need to look no further than his pre-season in the US this summer with ManU. he was their best player by a country mile in those games. he had a sort of free role between the center and the right wing and he tore every team apart

how is samba better then a 100% fit saylor or colo? saylor goes in for any challenge no matter how dangerous it could be for him, he even played through a broken nose without it getting medical attention, crazy or great? colo’s tactical awerness is much better’s then samba’s the only thing samba can do better is assiting goals from corners and free kicks, but that not a CB’s job so I would have him 3rd and thus on the bench thus making him unhappy and wanting to leave.

We should be able to win today as long as our players dont get complacent like they did last season, and shola might be able to score at championship level 😉
