Fabricio Coloccini doesn’t make the game at Brighton this afternoon, and in comes James Perch to partner Mike Williamson at the back.
The Newcastle captain was a doubt with a groin strain, and it’s always better to go safety first with these types of injuries, and hopefully Fab will be fit for the league game at Blackburn on Wednesday night.
Colo suffered the slight groin injury during training on Thursday.
But apart from that Alan Pardew picks the same starting line-up that went crashing 5-2 at Fulham last Saturday afternoon, so Davide Santon retains his place at left back, as we had expected, but surprisingly Shola Ameobi also retains his place up front.
Hatem Ben Arfa, who’s become a goal threat over the last five games or so with 3 excellent goals, starts again on the right wing.
It’s an important game this afternoon, and a win will see us in the round of the last 16 in the FA Cup.
Forgotten 21 year-old Hungarian center-back Tamas Kadar is on the bench, along with Elliot, Ferguson, Ryan Taylor, Gosling, Obertan and Lovenrkands.
Brighton & Hove Albion (4-3-3) Brezovan; Calderon, Greer, Dunk, El-Abd; Bridcutt, Sparrow, Forster-Caskey; Buckley, Mackail-Smith, Barnes
Subs: Ankergren (GK), Hoskins, Navarro, Harley, Vincelot, Agdestein, Hall
Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Perch, Santon; Guthrie, Cabaye; Ben Arfa, Gutierrez, Best; Ameobi
Subs: Elliot, Ferguson, Kadar, Taylor, Gosling, Obertan, Lovenrkands

Comment #117Santon is never ‘the next Maldini’. Far more effective in the opponents half and that’s his attacking instinct, having been brought up as a ST.
