Peter Lovenkrands was signed as a free agent by Joe Kinnear in January of 2009, the season we were relegated.
Peter Lovenkrands 29 goals in 81 Newcastle appearances
And Peter has been a good player for Newcastle, especially during the promotion season, when he hit 16 goals in 32 appearances for the side.
And in total Peter has 29 goals for Newcastle in his 81 appearances, including three goals in 8 appearances so far this season, all in the Carling Cup.
So with that good record, why has he not been given a chance lately, especially with Shola Ameobi and Leon Best not looking too sharp at the moment?
Peter has talked to the Sunday Sun today:
I am desperate for a chance. Last week at Fulham we played with Shola up top and Hatem on the right and Bestie on the left.
I was the only striker on the bench. I was sat there thinking OK, if you need me I am surely the next one coming on.
I am just hoping I get a few minutes soon because I know when I come on I can score goals. It is frustrating. You want to play and knowing your contract is up at the end of the season you want to show yourself.
You want to prove what you can do. In the past I have proved that I can score goals and I have got a pretty good record really.
I want to add to my three goals and I am just one away from 100 career goals. I am dying to get to that. I cannot leave it at 99!
This year I have got three goals in the five games I have started, I know what I can do, the boys know what I can do. The gaffer knows what I can do as well and when I have come in I have done my best.
The manager is not the kind who does not talk to you if you are not in the team. He has had a few little chats with me and that keeps my confidence up.
That is part of the reason why we have got such a good team spirit here. He keeps us all in the loop, no one is outside the squad and that’s why I feel like I can get my chance.
We were surprised that Peter wasn’t given a chance to play in the game yesterday, and he was a substitute on the bench.
His contract runs out in the summer and we had thought he wanted to move on, so that he could get playing time elsewhere, but if Alan wants to keep him around at the club. we should hear something on that in the next couple of weeks.
Once Wednesday rolls around and the January transfer window is over, Pardew wants to ensure some of Newcastle’s players are given new contracts, so we’ll find out if Peter is one of those.
With Papiss Cisse being signed this month, we don’t think the chances are high that Peter will be offered a new deal on Tyneside.
What do you think?

There’s still 3 days left of the window. Makes no sense whatsoever.

I’m no Match of the Day expert but surely the Boro can’t lose today. They are playing Sunderland who on a scale of 1-10 are…shite!

Comment #87I don’t know if Lovenkrands is any better than Shola. Whenever I see him play, he doesn’t tend to have any impact on the game at all, he’s just not there. At least Shola has a presence.
I don’t understand why the papers are saying we’re going to lose Demba Ba… We lose a game against a lower league team and now we’re going to lost our star striker? Shut up. He seems pretty happy here, don’t know if anyone’s noticed!

You are right, Perch was good yesterday, Krul didn’t do anything wrong. Maybe also Santon did his part.
And I think that Cabaye was very bad mentally, he was violent and angry all game long. Even (and I hope) if the FA won’t punish him, he didn’t play fairly yesterday with that kick, he should think about his team being without him for 3-4 games for that kind of behavior.

Comment #94I have to comment on the mega stirring of the People article… It’s on a Sunday to sell papers for starters. Plus, I listened to pardew talking to radio Newcastle on Tuesday night and for anyone that heard, he openly said they they were going out for a few beers as a group for more bonding. I still think the Tenerife trip is a good idea, regardless of yesterdays result as it gives them time to recharge their batteries for the remaining push of the season.
Don’t have a problem with it at all. As for the ‘drinking the bar dry…’ Did u see how many players went? There’s a link on flickr with all the players who went. A couple of drinks each would be a large collection of bottles with all those players.
All the pics shown hardly show them being slumped in a corner do they? Is that all the could get… Pardew in snazzy glasses and a nice pic of bestie, colo and Jonas and Stevie Taylor with a bottle in his hand who wont be playing for the year?
Once again, it’s a load of paper rubbish trying to sell papers.

Comment #101I think its the (creditable) lack of detail the club are prepared to divulge about their transfer business that makes these 3rd rate hacks shovel all this garbage out to make their managers think they are being proper journalists and won’t banish them to the coffee shop or classified ads. Loven wouldn’t be a bad idea because at least he does try to keep himself in the penalty area and available. Plus it’s gonna be no worse to try him is it?Jonas and HBA didn’t play well this game, but one game does not a bad player make – they need targets to play to not ghosts faffing around the wings and midfield like best and shola yesterday.

Comment #118I know there’s a lot of Shola bashing on here, and we all know he’s a quality lad, but he just doesn’t cut it in any way. Once again he was beyond useless yesterday, it makes no sense that Lovenkrands doesn’t get an opportunity. What makes it worse is that we all know he’ll get the nod against Blackburn if we aren’t able to get the Demba’s back. And if that is the case, god help us.
Wasn’t only Shola not cutting the mustard though, a lot of lacklustre performances in a game we were promissed so much from the players and manager after the Fulham capitulation. 2nd year in a row, we’re left with egg on our faces, and this year we could really have been in with a shout for the cup. The dissapointment will pass though.
Don’t want to leave this on a sour note though, afterall we’re doing ace in the league and I really believe we can push on for the rest of the season. Europe is very achievable. Once we have our full team back we’ll be flying again and we can get carried away with dreams of the Champs league 🙂
Oh, and Perchy deserves a pat on the back. Sure I wasn’t the only one having a squeeky bum moment when finding out he was playing. Solid game though. Well done lad.

Comment #120pardew and shola on nufctv showed how fu cking embarressed they were with the result. shola was sh it and pardew best look to the kids for goals as shola wont hit another on this season. airey must have a chance over shola. ive defended him for a decade but now is the time to change the front line.
