Rumors That Newcastle Will Sign French Center-Back – Video

6:04 pm, Sunday, January 29th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 313 Comments

Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga Mbiwa is said to be on his way to have a medical at Newcastle United.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – Newcastle agreed fee with Montpellier?

But we don’t how true this story is, because it’s a rumor that’s been generated on Sky Sports.

The rumor is that Newcastle have had an offer accepted for the Montpellier captain, and the 22 year-old is now on his way to Newcastle, and will have his medical tomorrow.

If the rumor is to be believed,  the 22 year-old will sign a four and a half year deal at Newcastle.

We have covered this lad a few times over the last couple of months and he looks a very good player, who can play anywhere across the back four.

And a player with that defensive versatility would be a very good buy for Newcastle.

The 8 times capped French U21 International stands 6′  tall and would jump at the chance to join Newcastle as he has said earlier this month:

Newcastle are interested? Well it means my performances have crossed the country.

My dream league has always been the Premier League, so you never know.

But for me if Montpellier have to agree a fee with a team, then who knows?

But I would love to play one day in England.

Last  November he was rumored to be worth around £5M, and if that is true Newcastle could have decided he would be a better bargain than Adrian Mariappa of Watford, who would cost around £4M.

This would also be consistent with what the Sunday Sun reported today, that over the last 24 hours, Newcastle have turned their attention to center-backs on the continent,  after their lack of success with Mariatta.

Again, we don’t know if this rumor is true, and it’s that time in the transfer window when rumors could be generated out of thin air.

But we hope it is because we think this lad would be a great buy for Newcastle.

He is the captain of Montpellier, and so the lad has some leadership skills,  and he has played for them since 2006 and has a total of 171 appearances with four goals.

Arsenal are one of the other clubs who have recently been linked with the youngster.

Here’s hoping. 😀

And finally, here’s a video of the player

Comments welcome.

I think it includes loans expiring as well though.

It’s about time we moved for this lad. I had never heard if him before he started being mentioned on here but after watching a few videos on YouTube I think it’s safe to say the boy looks a natural talent and if Graham Carr has told Newcastle to get him then I’ve no doubt he will be an outstanding player 🙂

  • 9 davybtoon // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:09 PM

gorgonzola mbwia is a cb forgot to say but he can play ryt across the back 4

  • 10 Wor Shearer // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:09 PM

    Got it Davy thanks 🙂

  • 14 Oleg G // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:11 PM

Like with our last transfer, don’t believe anything and probably won’t happen. If it will, I will be over the moon, for now, just paper talk.

  • 15 davybtoon // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:12 PM

wor shearer he been left out of montpellier team last 2 games so maybe true n he is there captain normally i think

  • 16 gorgonzola // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:13 PM

Off topic I really hope we keep this kit on for next season with possibly some small mods the two giant stripes out of the Newcastle coat of arms is so working for me…I could not go back to the rather invisible thin lines again….

  • 17 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:13 PM

Hoping for this lad, think he’d be great for us.

  • 18 Wor Shearer // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:13 PM

    @davyb – injury maybe?

  • 19 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:13 PM

    1-1 now…

thing a dont get about the Mbiwa story is this.. he’s 22 so why only a 4 and a half year deal? we gave Cisse whos 26 a 5 and a half year deal lol presumably on more wonga aswell

  • 20 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:14 PM

I asked a french correspondent and here’s what he tweeted back.

    Tom Williams @tomwfootball
@Dolsen82 That’s the first I’ve heard of it. He didn’t play yesterday because he has an ankle injury.

  • 21 gorgonzola // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:16 PM

Stupid question the loan move for Smith to Dons do they pay his wages?

  • 22 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:16 PM

That player contract list is wrong… half them players contracts aint expiring atall.. its included players who’s loan contracts end and not they actuall contracts

  • 23 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:16 PM

No one knows the length of the deal mate outside Pardew, Carr, Carver and DL, it’s only guess work. Imo, it makes the rumour even more unlikely.

  • 24 gorgonzola // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:16 PM

    Damn….I was getting excited…

  • 25 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:17 PM

They’re supposedly only paying £2.500 a week for him.

  • 26 davybtoon // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:17 PM

what u lot think about ba buy out clause imo i think it only comes into affect if were relegated, at the time he signed we were tipped to struggle or go down he has had a similar clause in all his contracts only were not as stupid as west ham to put one in were he can leave for free

  • 27 Zebras4Life // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:17 PM

    Please let this be

  • 28 ck1978 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:17 PM

If this French intake continues (and believe me I couldn’t give a sh#t where a player comes from if they wear the black and white top with pride) I would love us to sign Antoine Griezmann…. what a talent he is looking and would seriously challenge Spiderman on the left wing. Still only a bairn at 20 and probably cost about 10 million to prize him away…. can’t see Ashley paying out that much again on one player though…. well we can all dream 🙂

  • 29 davybtoon // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:19 PM

cisse n marveux deals prove no one knows about r business

  • 30 Wor Shearer // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:19 PM

because FIFA rules say you can’t give a player more than a 5 year deal that before he’s 26. it’s a ‘protected period’ as FIFA call it.

  • 31 gorgonzola // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:19 PM

Danny I see that defeats the purpose of him on loan surely man I cant believe we are his milking cow still….

  • 32 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:20 PM

I’m thinking the same thing mate, but at the same time, u have to question, would Ba sign for another club who’d he had thought there was a chance of relegation?

  • 33 Wor Shearer // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:21 PM

    ‘protected period’….weird name, i know!

  • 34 davybtoon // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:22 PM

with smith can only assume the club r thinkin its better to b getting 3grand aweek back on his wages than nothing at all

  • 35 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:24 PM

Here’s yet another reply from the french correspondent:

    Tom Williams @tomwfootball
@Dolsen82 I’ve not heard anything, sorry.

    So we’ll see then.

Ye, it kind of does, it seems to me that NUFC are just looking to save every penny they can. Which is ok tbh, we all sort of gain on it. Would like it to be more, but don’t think u can expect too much from a League 1 club.
We’ll only be saving £35.000, which is probably a week off Cabayes wages… Not much to brag about.

  • 36 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:24 PM

    but a would take:

Kalou, Hoillet, Diame, Douglas, Clyne, Drenthe, Tafer – Sign these for free would make our team immense without spending on transfer fees haha

  • 38 davybtoon // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:25 PM

dannyo ba clearly thought we wouldnt b jus like i didnt but yea u hav to think why wud we agree to a buy out clause for only 7mill n ba gets 3mill of that money if u believe the rumours so we wud only get 4mill when he had already proved he was a class act at west ham we wouldnt but we wud if it was a relegation clause

  • 39 Toonboy_83 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:25 PM

I really hope we can get this player.. which newspaper is reporting the medical?

  • 40 Toon Tang // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:26 PM

    nothing more to add sorry

  • 41 Benton Toon Exile // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:28 PM

Apparently he was at the Brighton game watching.

After watching that Sh*t he probably thought F*ck this for a game and got the first ferry home!

  • 42 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:28 PM

ck1978 – Griezmann is a player a said in the summer we should go for he is immense..well suited to the premier league aswell he’s quick, class on the ball and also likes a goal he’s got a contract until 2015 with a 30million Euros release clause

  • 43 Toonboy_83 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:28 PM

Sky Sports are generally accurate with their reports anyway…

where can I find the original rumour link?

  • 44 gorgonzola // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:28 PM

I hope one day we can sign players like this

we would win something I am sure..

  • 45 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:29 PM

Toonboy – no newspapers mate just some random kid putting a rumour in the sky sports your rumours page

  • 46 Tsunki // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:29 PM

So what’s the vote on the Mbiwa thing then? This deal has been whispered about, on & off, for a very long time now – this surely now has the ring of truth hasn’t it? If it does come off, with him, the dembas & tiote back in, marveaux and abeid coming up to speed, I think the rest of the team would be well back into its stride in no time, jonas and hba could cut in confidently without fear or need of tracking back. Now, witness the power of this fully operational…..

  • 47 LGFUAD21 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:30 PM

The fact is. Nobody knows the truth behind bas clause. I doubt Newcastle would put in place such a clause because there would be 2 outcomes.

    1) He didnt work out here and nobody wants him.
    2) He does work out (like he has) and everbody wants him and we can get money from that deal.

I imagine if it is a deal then it is only in case of relegation (we were tipped for a battle back in the summer), but we are smart enough to put money in it unlike west ham.

Really hope this rumour is true. If Pards isnt going to play Cisse in Blackburn game then I want to see Benny in Number 10 role.

Its time to give Obertan his chance again.

  • 48 James_NUFC_92 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:31 PM

Gt89 …. Think Diame , Clyne and hoilett should be the 3 we really go for . Best 3 for Nufc do you agree ?

  • 49 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:31 PM

See Cardiff are close to getting Noone from Brighton, he’s a good little winger

  • 50 NUFC STEVE // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:31 PM

Interesting MARIAPPA and MBIWA are small speedy CBs???

  • 51 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:32 PM

Yeah, would be an odd deal to make, and to be fair, i can’t see DL or MA making such a deal, where they would be at such a disadvantage.
I dunno mate, i find this whole clause thing an oddity tbh, could be it was for Ba incase he wouldn’t be played as much or struggling to get a game.
If he is on a pay as u play deal, i could see why Ba would want a clause as leverage, but nothing else.

  • 52 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:34 PM

James – Yeah mate, Diame,Clyne,Hoilett but a would also go for Douglas aswell gives us more cover.. leaving us with a very solid set of CB’s

  • 53 LGFUAD21 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:34 PM

Hah. Imagine if we signed Eden Hazzard tomorrow. So many other fans will be pissed cos they all are still convinced that they are getting him.

Still. He wouldnt be abel to do half of that stuff in the Prem

  • 54 Toonboy_83 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:35 PM

Oh that’s useless then.. no point reporting this.

  • 55 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:35 PM

Mbiwa’s 6ft not that small for a CB is it?

  • 56 RobertNufc25 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:36 PM

Were abouts did this rumour start??

If we dont sign anybody within the next 24 hours,
I dont think we will be signing anybody.

  • 57 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:36 PM

LGFUAD21 – We should more realistcally get the more talented of the brothers and get Thorgan Hazard younger but he’s rated higher and has more potential

  • 58 NUFC STEVE // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:37 PM

Gt89 If u look at average CB height it’s 6″2/6″3

  • 59 cheikmate // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:37 PM

  • 60 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:38 PM

Mbiwa is only an inch smaller than Colo but probz alot faster ha even though Colo is quick sometimes

    GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:31 PM

Just read that on twatter there.
What happened to that kid Noone?
He was playing out of his skin for Brighton at the start of the season.

  • 62 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:40 PM

A think this height pollarva for a CB is over rated you dont need to be tall to be successful.. If you can jump and win headers and your brave in a tackle then its all good

  • 63 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:41 PM

Robert – He got injured a couple month back mate did his hamstring, he was going to be playing against us yday but apparently he was pulled out for this Cardiff deal

  • 64 Toonboy_83 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:41 PM

I dont think we’ll sign Mbiwa unfortunately… I’d be genuinely surprised if we sign anyone else this season.

  • 65 RobertNufc25 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:43 PM

I seen him for Brighton at the start of the season & he looked a smashing player.

  • 66 Toon_Jock // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:43 PM

We got more Demba’s than you!
With a NicNack Paddy Whack give the Ba a goal
    Demba Ba is coming home!!

  • 67 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:44 PM

I’d be surprised if we signed anyone. I can’t see it. Will be dissapointing if we dont, but i still think we’ll manage tbh.
We won’t get Europe, but i never thought we would.

  • 68 lukes26 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:45 PM

Senegal must be a nation of nothing but CF’s. They have Ba, Cisse, Niang, Sow up front…all impressive.

are they even playing midfielders? their defense is shocking. no wonder theyre out of this competition.

  • 69 Tsunki // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:47 PM

I cant see Ashley painting himself into a corner with release clauses unless he had a get out jail fee card stashed somewhere. Ba may well be one of a number of new contracts in the ‘Ashley model’ which offers significant bonus incentives for league attainment. This would explain the nuance behind Ba’s statement that he ‘had started something and would like to finish it’ or words to that effect. He won’t be going anywhere unless someone wants to put in a rash (and high) bid for a player who is still a medical frailty.

  • 70 NUFC STEVE // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:50 PM

Think if we sign MBIWA it would eliminate problem of teams getting in behind us.It’s one of the only weaknesses we have shown-Chelsea,West brom,Fulham got behind far too easy!!

  • 71 LGFUAD21 // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:51 PM

I didnt even know he had a younger brother.

When it comes to the team I dont think its necessarily a case of we need a better player here or there (except a striker). Its more a case of maintaining a good link up between players. Their communication has been way off recently. No one supporting each other. Everyone is a bit static ad not creating options. Many passes are misplaced. Our defense often sits very high but no one pushes up in attacks, We seem to only have 1 player in a potential scoring position at any one time.

Last season we got more goals. Go back and look at how many players we had committed. Nolan in particular. Few of his 12 goals were skill. They were purely him being in the right place and the right time.

We need Benny in a no 10 role. He is one player who is always trying to give other options. It does make him more vulnerable to defenders but surely he is better protected by Cabaye and Tiote than just Simmo on right.

It would be great is we could have Marveaux at LW and Jonas at RW. Simmo seems to need more babysitting than Santon. Jonas is right footed. Marveaux was looking great before his injury. Honestly feel that if he had stayed fit he would be receiving the same praise as Cabaye right now for his contribution to the team.

  • 72 hattambenarfa // Jan 29, 2012 at 6:51 PM

    First post, be gentle :).

Although I think this guy would be a great signing it has been proven we do all our business in private so I doubt the rumours are true. It is evident that we need a CB, and also preferably one that can challenge for a fb slot when Saylor returns,

Also despite it seeming obvious we need a new winger after a CB, I think pardew is aiming to veer away from the 442 formation he has been forced into by the style of players left from hughtons reign. At the moment this new 4231 formation is failing miserably, but if you look at the team we could have with all players fit, it is quite promising.

    Raylor/simpson Saylor colo santon
    Tiote cabaye
    Hba Jonas ba/marveaux

Happy days, hwtl, and get well ed 🙂

Anyway lads. I seem to remember everyone saying how it would be great if we were still in the same league position when the boys returned.

Well Ba is coming back and we are. With Cisse. I dont really think our CMs are the problem of late. Although Tiote would have been nice to have to break down the attacks.

I feel bad for Guthrie playing second fiddle to Cabaye and Tiote. He has proven this season that he is a decent player.

  • 81 bob // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:03 PM

Pardew go now. After watching that gutless display is that what you train them to do all week? That’s 3 early cup exits at your hands. The man is a loser, the quicker we get someone that knows what they’re doing, the better.

  • 82 irishtoonman // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:04 PM

A bit small for a CB. Watched the video, based on that video he will only be a squad player this year. Reminds me a bit of
Bessong, looks like a classy kind of player.

The pace and physicality of the Premiership might shock him a bit to start.

Good signing for the future I would say.

  • 83 Senior // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:06 PM

Cisse on to replace ba, is mbwia a toon player yet?

  • 84 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:07 PM

LGFUAD21 – My honest opinion is if Marv had stayed fit and stayed in the team a really think we’d be 4th in the league still he the creative player from the wing who weve missed with his runs/passing/crossing and ability to get at players and win fouls a think we’d have beat the likes of Swansea/West Brom/Spurs and perhaps even won or atleast drew yday

toonashwin – Barnetta would be good, the rest wouldnt get near our team unless people are sold imo.. Kanoute is 34 Drogba is the same.. Rodelega is the premier leagues most over-rated player he’s sh*t..and im sure Kranjcar isnt free this summer sure its 2013 but all the same he wouldnt play for us..imagine a transfer window of these free transfers:

Some fans would still be going mental that we aint spent £100million on 2 players

  • 85 toonarmy08 // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:07 PM

    rossg says…

Newcastle have had an offer accepted for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa of Montpellier, left out the squad for match to Nice on Saturday to jet into Tyneside for medical and contract talks…..4.5 year contract.

Thats off sky sports your rumours.

Im actually gutted thats the source of this article ffs.Haha

  • 87 Tsunki // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:09 PM

    Oh no! bob!

lgfuad @77 – nothing wrong at all with our CM technically, but as a unit they have made us vulnerable through pushing too far forward as one without the stabilising effect of Tiote, who knows when the gap at the back shouldn’t be compromised. That’s only part of the problem the other day (strikers both totally ineffective and hopelessly wandering nowhere near their goal when it mattered) but it is a canny big one.

  • 88 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:10 PM

bob – f8ck off you loser, your clearly one of those pathetic fans who think they know how to manage a football team, perhaps you have problems of your own and instead of letting them out and realising you need to get a grip you decide to berrate the very manager who’s got us to joint 5th in the league and also forgetting that its only our 2nd season back in the premier league, dont even bother replying to this comment as i will not be replying to you after this again your a pathetic excuse for a fan and a total moronic human being!

  • 89 nufc mad man // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:13 PM

    hi all
a question of thought about our next game do you think that we will become a more short passing team if cisse and ba were to be the two forwards and will HBA play just behind them both rather than out wide?

  • 90 Tsunki // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:13 PM

GT89 – why dont you man up and say what you really mean without all the beating about the bush lol

  • 91 lukes26 // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:15 PM

I believe Senegal are playing 5-1-4 …they dont pass in the midfield….the defenders are just kicking the ball in the general direction of a forward.

Too right. His comment had all the logic of firing Carlo Ancellotti for finishing 2nd the season after he delivered the double. And Billy Davies for taking Forrest tot eh play offs consecutive seasons (and openly admitting that they were not ready for Prem)

I can understand people making cynical comments about Pardews tactics at times and sub choices. But they overlooked the times he has got it spot on as well. 2 sides to every story.

  • 95 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:18 PM

A did say yday that Pardew made the subs and the wrong subs far too late into the game.. but i have never said we should sack him its just ridiculous

  • 96 Kekasa // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:21 PM

I wouldn’t take “bob” seriously. Hasn’t anyone noticed that he started to spout his sh!t after plan_b mysteriously disappeared? He’s just trying to wind people up.

  • 97 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 7:21 PM

LGFUAD21 – Exactly, Pardews done a cracking job considering what hes had to deal with, Nolan,Barton,Carroll,Enrique all leaving and not having much money to spend on replacements but look at the players he’s gave permission to sign… he’s doing well and is the best manager weve had since the Great Sir Bobby, he will have to win something and get us into the champions league for him to come close to SBR mind but all the same hopefully our club can have consitancy with the manager for once

Looking at life thru youtube – coloured glasses is decidedly risky of course, but he certainly looks aware of his positioning, dedicates himself to the interception and plays the right pass straight away. • 142 Rotonda heights // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:01 PM

i would prefer M’Biiwa to samba. He is lightning quick and can bring the ball out of defense which we desperately need in our back line.
samba is great in the air but so is willo and blackburn are near the bottom of the league because teams get in behind them.

  • 143 Tsunki // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:01 PM

Thump – teaches me to read slower doesn’t it? ‘Continental’ football is a bit more languid and kinda bursts into life suddenly, maybe due to the effect of heat in their summers, I dunno. But they still manage to compete in Champs league don’t they? It just depends, as always, on the incoming players’ ability to adjust to the pace of the Prem, but so far we’ve had good results I think.

  • 144 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:02 PM

£5.5million for Samba not a hope in hell

  • 145 nufc90 // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:02 PM

i haven’t really seen much of zaha seems a lot for a championship player though.. especially looking at the calibre of players we’ve picked up for much less. what i’ve read about him though is that he needs to work on his end product so i’d do the same and go for hoilett. surely blackburn will rather sell than lose for free

  • 146 Wor Shearer // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:02 PM

I think we’ll see Cisse at half time….or 89th min, knowing Pardew!

Wheres Niafron when we need a French-Geordie view on Yanga-Mbiwa?

  • 151 hainesy // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:06 PM

Samba’s price will only go down. I can see him going for a low price on Deadline Day. Blackburn look destined for the drop and may take the money and run. A transfer request or 3 will surely have made him available at lower than the 8-10M that’s being quoted everywhere.

  • 152 davybtoon // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:06 PM

Not saying we won’t get samba but I highly doubt he will b at Blackburn by Tuesday he basically said he can’t play for them bcoz they lied to him so he can’t give his full commitment to them

  • 153 Beattie25 // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:07 PM

After seeing Willo the past few games I would take Samba & Mbiwa.

    That would be a solid.

  • 154 Tsunki // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:11 PM

Bedtime for bob? Looks like he’s crashed as he’s been rumbled. Again. Really hope this Mbiwa thing has substance, would be happy with what we have but if we get him as well – BoooYAHHH!

  • 155 nufc90 // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:14 PM

samba has to go too they need the money they’re not gonna pay him 60k to not be in the team surely?
pretty sure i read they had to sell some cos of their finances that’s why they were trying to offload formica.
i still think if we don’t get mariappa we’ll wait till summer for douglas/vertonghen/mbiwa or maybe short term loan someone

  • 156 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:22 PM

Jack – Right mate good question, in terms of being the best option to come in and start straight away it would be Samba of course at the right price.. but we need a pacey defender who can win everything and be committed whilst also being quick enough to cover when the ball goes past the likes of Colo/Willo/Simo..and a dont feel we need a player who will want to be guarenteed to start every week…

maybe Pards wants Samba so when Ba and Cisse go to ACON next year Samba can play upfront with Best? Big Sam played him uptop and he scored a few goals haha

  • 157 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:23 PM

If were really interested in Samba and are that desperate to do a deal then a dont see why we dont do a double deal with them for Samba and Hoilett

Simpson colo Mbiwa santon for now

    GK Krul
    RB Simpson
    CB Coloccini(c)
    CB S.Taylor
    LB Santon
    RM Hoilett
    CM Tiote
    CM Cabaye

Subs Kuszczak Douglaus M’Bwia Jonas Drethne Guthrie Kalou

  • 167 LGFUAD21 // Jan 29, 2012 at 8:50 PM

What I like most about this Mbiwa lad is that he seems so composed. He is very, very confident on the ball. Willo does a shift and fairly well but he never seems in control of the ball. He seems panicky and just desperate to get the ball out.

Mbiwa looks like he has a good read of the game. He seems to see his job as a defender goes beyond preventing goals in the modern game.

And yeah Simmo was poor yesterday but I dont think he’s a write off. I still think he brings more to the team than people give him credit for. He does contribute to attacks a fair bit and is always providing assistance to whoever is playing RW. But he is also too keen to boot the ball away.

My main problem with him yesterday is that he just gave up once the player was past him. Shouldve been runnign after him pressuring him into making a rash, sloppy pass or shot.

can’t let the fact that Alan Smith is effectively leaving the club go by without a mention – I along with many others believe that if it was’nt for his outburst at the wasters still at the club after relegation and his influence thereafter in the dressing room after the defeat to orient pre- season two years ago we would not be where we are as a club now in a million years. I for one respect the man as much as the player and wish him all the best for the future and thank him for having the professional pride and desire to drag my club back from what could have been oblivion. derekm – well said, many tend to forget those dark times but the sensible do look back at one of the defining moments in what promised to be an ongoing disaster. I hope you do well Smudge.

  • 205 GeordieoftheSouth // Jan 29, 2012 at 9:27 PM

The Smith thing is quite old news…after all his chirpsing recently about still doing a good job for a Prem team or Championship…it cries of desperation that he has gone to MK Dons.

I would have advised him to go to my local team Crawley Town but I doubt he would even get into that team! But fair play to him for making the move.

  • 206 JackButler // Jan 29, 2012 at 9:27 PM

  • 207 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 9:27 PM

Speaking of Erdinc, he entered the field for Rennes 10 minutes ago.

  • 215 geordielad880 // Jan 29, 2012 at 9:36 PM

arsenal had scouts watching mbiwa last 5 or 6 games or so, so i would say if anyone was getting him it would be them, i dont think we will be signing anyone else, unless its on loan maybe

  • 216 geordielad880 // Jan 29, 2012 at 9:37 PM

I would definately change things around for the next game, we need some more bite in central midfield, so i would for for gosling, rather than guthrie, and play obertan on the right, with ben arfa playing off best

  • 217 JackButler // Jan 29, 2012 at 9:37 PM

geordielad880 – Why would anyone in their right mind want to join Arsenal???

They are slowly falling apart whereas we are growing 😉

Arsenal’s defence is so poor, why Wenger didn’t go in for Cahill and now Samba…I will never know.

    Oxlaide-Chamberlain looks very good though

  • 219 GeordieToon89 // Jan 29, 2012 at 9:38 PM

Well, i live on a big hill, so if i was Superman, i could maybe see Benton. Seeing as i’m in Norway, that’s the best chance i would have of spotting anything.

  • 254 WWJBD // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:18 PM

Right if we dont sign a player then we are aiming to sign one on loan yes? Now surely that rules out all domestic targets (no one would loan to us other than City and they are low on CBs so fairly poor option) so whats everyones bet on international prospects?

My footballing knowledge is fairly limited on this front anyone fancy throwing out a few names who are avaliable on loan who would be worth getting in until summer?

  • 255 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:23 PM

I dunno mate, i can’t see us signing someone on loan unless there’s an oppertunity to buy.
Thus making a loan obsolete really, cause we want value for money in the end.
It’d have to be someone we have been scouted if there was an option to buy, so why not just buy all together.

    Otherwise, there’s Perch…

  • 256 brobrotwins // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:27 PM

very hopeful on this lad but i think its just a rumour , also i know its nothing to do with this current blog but just wanted to say that pardew’s been getting his teams wrong for a while probrably since ba left i think with ba and tiote here the team prety much picked it’s self with them gone its like he does’nt have a clue and im not being a negger its just take yesterday for example (i know everyone wants to forget) the to of our most promising youngsters vuckic and abeid never even made the squad while personaly i think the cup games we should mix it up young talented lads with some experience at least then if we go out the lads gain experience unlike yesterday the first team could not be bothered at all im hoping pardews has a shake of his head and learns some better tactics for when cisse ba and tiote are back because hes going to have problems with hba ba cisse because like it or not hba is not a winger simple !! sorry for the moan lads

  • 257 WWJBD // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:30 PM

I would tend to agree though if its our last option avaliable it may not be out of the question. We had HBA on loan and Ireland so u never know (tbh just trying to get some different chat going on for a bit before its back to rumours and player slating haha)

For me Id take Perch as back up, probably a bit too weak but has a decent level of pace on him, if we have to however we should really of had a CB lined up way before Saylor got crocked (again)

  • 258 Crow59Cdo // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:30 PM

medical on a sunday night ??? plus im sure the press would have got a snap or two and it would be common knowledge now as with cisse, twitter needs disabling over tranfer windows its a joke lol however if it does happen happy days

  • 259 kilcline // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:31 PM

I agree, we should have a affiliate club that we loan our best young players and have 1st choice of any of their better young players.

Smith, Loverkrands, Best, Shola. Perch all need to go in the summer.

  • 260 WWJBD // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:32 PM

  • 265 Dannyo // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:40 PM

Yeah, we’ve had other players on loan. HBA we ended up buying tho after half a season.
It just seems to me that we’ve tightened the money regime vastley, making me think that a loan deal without option to buy is a big tabu these days in the boardroom.
I agree 100% tho, altho Perch was MOTM yesterday, he’s a bit lightweight, but he’s got pace, i’ll give him that. He’s far from ideal tho, and i honestly don’t think he can handle this level in a consistant fasion.
I do want a CB in, and i want one badly.

  • 266 t00ntime // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:41 PM

  • 271 James_NUFC_92 // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:48 PM

Kilcline- if we could get that sort of relationship with say 5 clubs our young players would be so much better and we could bring in good young players from the clubs and loan them back.
Imagine as an example we had the relationship with crystal palace and we buy za ha for 2m in 2009 then loan him back … Then his value goes up and he becomes a better player but he is already our player. The smaller clubs benefit but most importantly our young players become stronger so we can have even more young players coming through and we could use them in cups Europe etc when they are ready ….

  • 272 toonpanda18 // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:56 PM

  • 273 shearer4pm // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:56 PM

looking at the free agents list, there is some talent on there
    Zakaria Labyad (PSV)
    Douglas (Twente)
    Cristian Rodríguez (Porto)
    Mattieu Flamini (Milan)
    Sulley Muntari (Inter)

the last two are definatly iffy, due to possibly being past it and former scum player, but in 2013 Angelo Ogbonna from torino is out of contract, i think if we dont get yanga then we should definatly put in a cheeky 5mil bid to turn the lads head, santon might help us out too, would love the prospect here

  • 274 kilcline // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:57 PM

Really hope we sign a centre back and Zaha and even loan him back.

  • 275 LewSpi // Jan 29, 2012 at 10:57 PM

Of course he’s signing, he was in my vision, along with Hoilett.

Me and Beattie25 were talking the other day saying that Ashley should buy Hearts, they’re not far away, in a lot of economic trouble and about the right level of football for our reserves. Winner all around. We could just send our players backwards and forwards whenever we needed too. There’s no losers.

  • 276 WWJBD // Jan 29, 2012 at 11:00 PM

Aye Perchy is decent but he shouldnt be getting a run of games purely a stop gap in my eyes.

If we dont get a CB in before the window shuts I can see it vastly hurting our season. Watford lad would be good but they seem to be unhappy to deal at the moment and time is quickly running out….if I was owner I would have 3-4 deals being sorted right now and the first one to come off is signed up

  • 277 kilcline // Jan 29, 2012 at 11:06 PM

Perch is no way good enough to be playing premiership football, i doubt any other team in the league would have him.

    Same goes for Shola.

  • 278 danishmag // Jan 29, 2012 at 11:09 PM

Okore is not ready to be more than a reserve player!
I have seen this lad a couple of times in the dansih league, and yes he has potential!
But the strikers he faces are no where near the level of premier legaue.. Not even the level of champion ship!
Again.. He is not going to improve our defence if he should be coming.. Maybe in a couple of years.. And we have some talented youngsters who can fill that roll already.

He is a no go IMO

GT89 What if Cabaye was pushing his leg out to attempt to push his legs away? That kid was a nugget and he was leaving his feet in! Not saying it was right what Cabaye did, but it’s a defence that we will use if he is summonsed! He was not looking at the area he was lashing out at. Players normally get done when they target an area to kick=Balotelli
Cabaye did lash out, just think for those reasons he may get off.

But jonas and Best were roaming massively.
Jonas seemed to be on the RW most of the time.
Best ran his socks off but was never were he was needed and would have been most effective.
Shola appeared to have looked Medusa in the eyes once again.

I thought the first half would have been domination like with Fulham (but with some goals) but no. Just saw a lot of players running into opposition and giving the ball away.

What shocked me most was that we apparently had something like 10 shots on target. Brighton had 3.

That says it all really. 10 shots on target and 0 goals against Brighton (no discredit to them but its not like we were up against Joe Hart).

Wasteful in front of goal. Absolutely woeful shot to goal ratio there. You’d think we’d have at least 1 goal out of 10 shots. I know that was shared among the team but to put it in perspective Ba scores something like 50% of his shots on target (hence being the most efficient striker in Europe). Now I think it is acceptable to say that was Ba playing he would have had at least 3/4 of those shots. Meaning 1-2 goals scored if he were to keep that trend going.

Fact is statistics suggest that Ba would have achieved with 2 shots what Best, Shola, Benny, Cabaye, Guthrie and Jonas couldn’t with 10 yesterday.

I know this is all statistics and bendy logic. But still there is a point in there somewhere.

hope ya right tom but personally think will get a 3 match ban.. what annoys me is teams seem to target him with harsh tackles recently

  • 301 GeordieToon89 // Jan 30, 2012 at 12:36 AM

Balotelli never looked at Parker before he did it though… Cabayes wasnt as bad as Marios like no where near so a see your point but we need to be careful because if we appeal then he can play on Wed but after that if its rejected he’d be banned for 4 games which means he’ll miss the mackems game on the 4th

so excited bout the 2dembas .. think we will stick to this system now swell

  • 303 GeordieToon89 // Jan 30, 2012 at 12:39 AM

gaz – Thats because he’s our creativity and if he gets knacked then Ben Arfa is also out of the game.. but if they target Ben Arfa then Cabaye is still pulling the strings and playing everyone in

Your right Balotelli did’nt but the legs were free and he knew were his head was. Just a thought, totally agree re-appeals rare that they work! Need him v the Stink1

how’s ivory coast doin.. any chance of them bein knocked out early

  • 306 tom tomb // Jan 30, 2012 at 12:42 AM

Gaz, I think they have seen his reactions lately mate and target him! Pardew needs a word cos he does not look a happy bunny!

  • 307 GeordieToon89 // Jan 30, 2012 at 12:43 AM

A reckon we should go for Steven Fletcher when Wolves go down like.. he’s got a class record be good back up striker and someone to put pressure on Ba and Cisse as Best and Shola wont put any on

  • 308 LGFUAD21 // Jan 30, 2012 at 12:43 AM

Anyone think our substitutions stank of giving up also?

I know Fergie looks like a good young one but I would never place him on a pitch in a game in that state.
Shouldve put Raylor on wing and Hba in place of Best or Shola and hoped for some magic at the very least. Brighton were tired, seems like best time for Benny to take the p!55 like.

And personally, i never really see what Gosling brings to the team. Much prefer Perch being brought on as a defensive mid than him (even though we couldnt do that, we werent in the position to play the Perchinator anyway)

Or shouldve at least put Obertan on seeing as he has legs

  • 309 GeordieToon89 // Jan 30, 2012 at 12:43 AM

Gaz – Ivory Coast have qualified already mate 2 wins out of 2

  • 310 GeordieToon89 // Jan 30, 2012 at 12:45 AM

LGFUAD21 – A said that yday mate, was th wrong subs and far too late… he should of went for it and put.. Fergie/Lovenkrands/Obertan all on… but instead he decieded to take off a defender and 2 midfielders :s

  • 311 Lynxie // Jan 30, 2012 at 9:45 AM

Lads, I can assure you all, you can rule out any move for Zinedine Zidane in this transfer window. I am so ITK it is scary.

  • 312 Lynxie // Jan 30, 2012 at 9:46 AM

My best and most pleasant surprise will be if anyone takes Danny Simpson off our hands. Hoping for Shola to go is just plain fantasy……………..
