Tomorrow may not be a very good day for Newcastle supporters.
Demba Ba – Liverpool after this player?
Last year we lost Andy Carroll to Liverpool in a shock £35M deal on the last day of this window, and even Alan Pardew was not expecting that.
Now David Craig of Sky Sports News is reporting there are persistent rumors (that will not go away), that Liverpool are coming in tomorrow to try to get Demba Ba – presumably using that buy-out clause in his contract – said to be around £7M.
Of course this may be just to up the interest for their day-long transfer broadcast tomorrow, when they cover all the transfer moves being made on the very last day of the January transfer window, and they hype it up big time.
But if somehow Liverpool come in and get Demba Ba – that would be totally and absolutely ridiculous.
Liverpool paid £35M for Andy Carroll, so why is it that they keep eyeing Newcastle players all the time?
There are two things that worry us, that this news may be true.
One is that Alan Pardew has come out too many times this month and said he is worried we may lose one or more of our top players, so maybe an inquiry has already been made by Liverpool about Demba Ba.
And the second thing is that Kenny Dalglish tried to get the Liverpool game at Wolves tomorrow moved back one day, because it was on the last day of the transfer window, but Wolves manager Mick McCarthy refused.
That would suggest Liverpool are going to do some big business in the transfer market tomorrow.
We are looking at tomorrow with a little bit of trepidation, but surely this cannot happen – not for a second January in a row – and the local press has reported Ba’s release clause only comes into effect in the summer?
We’ll be very pleased if at 11:00pm tomorrow night we still have all our players at the club, plus one or two new players that have come through the door.
