The breaking news from the Daily Mail is that Adrian Mariappa has turned down a move to Wigan Athletic.
Adrian Mariappa – has turned down move to Wigan
The rumor was that a fee had been agreed between Wigan Athletic and Watford, and that the Lancashire club had outbid Newcastle for the player, and could have been closer to the £4M Watford want for their defender.
But Adrian has turned down the chance to join Wigan, so that the Latics couldn’t even get to talk wages with the player.
This puts Newcastle back in the picture so we’ll see if Newcastle will increase their bid, but we doubt they will, and it’s probably up to Watford to accept Newcastle’s last bid, or just keep their player.
The news coming through is that Adrian wants to join Newcastle, but of course a fee needs to be agreed with Watford first.
And news just coming through is that defender James Tavernier has followed Alan Smith to MK Dons on loan for the rest of the season.
That’s good for James, and he will be all set next seaosn to challenge for the frst team at Newcastle after going out on loan to Gateshead, Carlisle United, Sheffield Wednesday and now MK Dons.
James has 43 appearances out on loan since he joined Gateshead last January.

Comment #4I see he is sensible – if he cant go to us, he may as well stop at watford than join a sinking ship in the middle of the grim north. Worst scenario for him, he stays and gets bought by southern prem club in summer for more money.

Comment #7If we lose tonight, people will get on the managers/boards back after some poor results and lack of centre backs so we will sign Mariappa to cheer everyone up a bit.
If we win tonight, everyone will be happy and we wont sign anybody.

Comment #16I thought it a bit strange when Pardew mentioned during his interview that the ball was very much in Watfords court, then added ‘we have not spoken to the lad’ but as he said it could not look the interviewer in the eye!
Obviously HAVE spoken to the boy and the boy wants to come here. IMO
I am not bothered if he is not international class, in Carr we trust and i believe most of the time we will be attacking now that we have TWO strikers. as i always say ‘time will tell’

Comment #30Bob – he doesnt play like simpson much more technical and composed, paopably best not just making things up, he would be good solid cover, 2.5million is peanuts for somebody like him.

Comment #37We do need a CB though or else the wheels could come off our season, they have already been getting a little loose lately,Maybe Kadar has got himself fit and Pardew is not so worried about cover and plans a better quality signing in the summer.
