Blackburn vs Newcastle – Match Preview

Newcastle managed to keep all their top players during the January transfer window,  and even bring in top Senegal striker Papiss Cisse for £9M from SC Freiburg.

The Senegal strikers Demba Ba and Papiss will not however be available for tonight’s game at Blackburn, and the big problem we have about this game is who is going to score the goals for Newcastle?

Shola Ameobi and Leon Best didn’t look like scoring at all in the last game at Brighton on Saturday, and they were not helped out by Ben Arfa and Danny Guthrie,  who scored the goals in the 5-2 drubbing at Fulham in the previous game.

In that game in the second half Newcastle’s defense looked hopeless, but on Saturday it looked stronger, but we still conceded a soft goal to go out of the FA Cup at the 4th round stage to a lower league side for the second year in a row.

We have to think it’s about time Danish striker Peter Lovenkrands gets a start tonight, and probably in place of Shola Ameobi, who has shown little form over the last couple of games.

Of course Alan Pardew may keep Shola in the line-up exactly because of that – since he must be a due a goal – having scored only once all season, in the home game against Tottenham, when he rifled home the equalizer in great style.

Yohan Cabaye has received a three match suspension so is not available tonight or for the next couple of games against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

We have a feeling that Ben Arfa will not start this game, after he was not in good form at Brighton, and gave the ball away too much.

Alan Pardew will not want to lose possession too many times in tonight’s game and we think Ryan Taylor could start the game on the right wing.

And as for who comes in for Cabaye,  maybe it’s time to give young Dan Gosling a start, and it’s his 22nd birthday today.

But the good news is that captain Fabricio Coloccini is fit again after his groin injury, and will lead the side out tonight.

This is the team we think Pardew  will start tonight:

Harper
Simpson Coloccini (c)  Williamson Santon
Taylor (R) Gosling Guthrie Gutierrez
Lovenkrands Best

Subs: Harper Perch Abeid  Marveaux Ameobi (Sh) Ben Arfa Ferguson

The keys to the game are that first of all the defense has a solid game.

We’ve been too prone lately in letting goals in and in the 12 league games since the Chelsea 3-0 defeat Newcastle have concede three or more goals in six of those games, and that’s not good.

Davide Santon is an excellent player on the ball, but his positioning at left back is often suspect, and he cannot let the winger get around him on the outside and get the cross over.

And in midfield,  we will have to hope that Danny Guthrie has one of his better games tonight, and that some players will be able to go on the goal trail, although exactly who they will be, we don’t know.

Ben Arfa will play some part tonight,  and of course he can score goals, but it’s about time our strikers produced the goods tonight.

Lovenkrands (3), Best (4) and Shola Ameobi (1) have only eight goals between them this season in all competitions, and that’s simply not enough.

We are not too confident about this game, and will be happy to take a point from Ewood Park tonight.

Let’s hope the lads can surprise us on the upside and win tonight, and 3 points will take us up to at least 6th position in the league, and maybe even 5th place depending on how Arsenal fare at Bolton Wanderers.

Howay The Lads!!

I dont think its that Clear cut Beattie, thats Extreme. Villa is a very winable game with the Dembas back. Tiote could be back for Spurs.

I think we will win two of the three

Sorry to repost but I was thinking along these lines for tonight:

    —————Krul——————
    Simmo–Colo–Willo–Santon
    —————Guthrie————–
    ———-Gosling–Jonas———
    —–HBA————Lovern—–
    —————Best—————–

Subs: Harps, Ferguson, Ameobi, Vuckic, Abied, Raylor, Perch.

It’s a bit out there and I doubt we’ll use it but I reckon that’s quite solid in the middle and there are several outlets going forward, with options to play narrow and stretch play wide at times.

The stupid thing is he isnt getting banned for the kick, but the push before hand (according to pardew) cabaye was fallIng and accidemtly pushed his face(trying to stay balanced) the kick afterwards when they were on the floor is worse but cabaye was banned for the push and thats why the brighton player wanted to help against the appeal.

Rooney last season elbowed a wigan player when neither had the ball, FA didnt ban cause the ref had a talk with rooney

Crouch elbowed some one in the face, no FA review

Adebayour and defoe both almost got kicked in the face (adebayours height is one high foot :O) both by delap. No review

Robin van persie elbowed a guy, no review

If u ask me the FA do it for ratings, stoke need to keep there players to keep the league exciting(cause other wise the top 7 are running away)
Arsenal need to keep RVP or else champions league hopes are over for then
Man utd last season need rooney to keep title challenge exciting and nufc are doing to well so we need to drop of so the more exciting teams can get in too europe aka arsenal and liverpool, we are to close for comfort so they saw cabaye as a chance to slow us down

A conspiracy theory or the truth, you decide. But if not for money purposes why else were the rest not banned?

(reposted cause I didnt notice ed had made a new one lol)

This game will show the weakness or strength of our team when many of our first team players are out.

It will show the hunger or lack of hunger, of the players who may not have been given a chance to shine much this season.

If we loose tonight I don’t doubt that some of the players featured will be here net season.

I think the reserve cull also reonates to the first team and I woud not be suprised to see many of them go.

This is a test, of that I am sure.

Ed, lets hope AP doesn’t pick that side – Blackburn will work all over that midfield.

4-3-3 counterattack or go for the possession and play 4-2-3-1.

Blackburn are not very good at converting from attack to defense. So either close them down or counterattack them 🙂

    Just don’t play hoofball.

I think after the reserve cull the following players will have to show some major quality if they are to remain here next season (whether that be in te first team or reserves):

    Rob Elliot
    Steve Harper
    Danny Simpson
    Ryan Taylor
    Mike Williamson
    James Perch
    Danny Guthrie
    Dan Gosling
    Leon Best
    Peter Lovenkrands

I think we will try to keep the others (including Shola sob sob)

    But the cull has started

So you’re proud of your childish attitude toward Shola? That’s nice. Why don’t you keep it there on twitter, where I’m sure there is an army of morons ready to go along with you. 99% of us are sick and tired of reading the same thing over and over. I’m sure you have other opinions and views on Newcastle, so why don’t you move on and change the damn record?
