We didn’t feel good before last night’s win at Blackburn.
Fab Coloccini tussles with David Dunn last night
And when we wrote we just didn’t have a good feeling about the game last night in our match preview, that probably cheered up a of of Newcastle fans. 😀
And would you believe it, the lads got a terrific win 2-0, and we were wrong again!
Yes, we were lucky in that first half last night, and it was a bit like the QPR first half at Loftus Road earlier in the season, but luck tends to even itself out over the season, and we haven’t had too much luck recently, so we’ll take it.
There were lots of positives to take out of last night’s game, with Tim Krul again in great form in the Newcastle goal – what a goalkeeper this lad is turning out to be for Newcastle.
And Coloccini back from his groin strain, again showed he is a much improved center-back in the Premier League, and we need to get this man signed up on Tyneside for the next several years.
His agent is jetting over from Argentina, and we believe the club are confident they can come to terms with Fab, and sign him to a new and improved four and a half year deal.
Coloccini is almost a cult hero on Tyneside, and we think when his new deal is announced, Newcastle fans will welcome the good news.
30 year-old Coloccini talked about the game last night:
“We knew Blackburn would make it hard for us,” “The game was probably not that good to watch, and sometimes we couldn’t play our best football, but we showed the character of the team.”
“It’s good to win in this way, and we know now that we can have dreams because we’re one point, maybe two points, away from the total you need to be safe.”
“That’s good, because we can look forward. Why not dream about playing in a European cup?” “I think it is okay to dream – but only if we keep winning.”
While the club are getting Coloccini signed up to a new deal, let’s also get Danny Guthrie and Danny Simpson signed up to long term deals – now.
And there were other things to take out of last night’s game that were positives for Newcastle – James Perch had another good game – this time in defensive midfield, and his good form of late lessens the worry in case Fabricio Coloccini or Mike Williamson are injured.
Only if we have some very bad luck and we lose both of them together, will Newcastle be struggling at center-back.
And it was great to see Gabby Obertan score – and he took his goal very well, and we loved the pointing to the fans after he scored right right at the end to make it 2-0, and he was put through by a lovely ball from Peter Lovenkrands.
Obertan dedicated his first goal for Newcastle to the fantastic fans who were at the game last night, and we hope to see more goals from the talented French winger.
Whiel we didn’t play well last night in the first half, just think what we can do when we do play well – and the lads have a chance to show the fans what they can do at St. James’ Park on Sunday against Aston Villa.
That game should be a sell-out, to welcome back Demba Ba and to to welcome Papiss Cisse to St. James’ Park for the first time.
And it was interesting to learn from Papiss earlier in the week that Newcastle had agreed a fee to sign him last June, but his club SC Freiburg reneged on the deal.
Since we signed Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid in June, it could have been even better with Cisse arriving, and indeed Newcastle would have spent some of the Carroll money last summer after all.
But better late then never, and Cisse was a fantastic signing for us last month, and we have a feeling that in the summer we’ll see some more very good players signed by the club – with a lot of the ground-work already done.
With the win last night, we have a good chance of another 3 points on Sunday, and things are definitely looking up for Newcastle United.
Long may that continue.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #3I dunno, i can’t see Simmo signing that contract, it’s been infront of him for a while now, should’ve been done and dusted.
Either he has grand delusions about himself or the contract is really, really bad.
Could be a slight mixture of both, but who knows.
He should know he won’t go anywhere better, but in the end, money talks.

Comment #8This might shock a few people but i would prefer perch to partner collo at the weekend willo looks like hes lost the plot currently, and villa have some real pace up top, that high line of ours might give willo trouble,
Perch was pretty good against Swansea, WBA, and Brighton at CB, give Willo a game off, need a bit more pace in the back 4.
Guthrie and Abeid for me in CM, Benny and Jonas out wide and Dembas up front, throw them straight in and see if benny improves with some movement up front.
On the Contract thing this is certainly dragging on somewhat, no news to be honest.

Comment #9@post 5. Agreed. Simmo is a far better player than he is given credit for. Spoke to a bloke at work who had nothing good to say about him, and it turns out the bloke hasn’t been to a match since Greame bleeding Sounness was in charge. Another armchair fan who doesn’t watch his overall contribution on the pitch, and therefore knows nowt.

That’s three more than some can see though.
Simmo’s contract must be something awful. Can’t see why he wouldn’t sign otherwise. Unless, as some say, the nutters sending him disgusting abuse on twitter have put him off.

Comment #11Wouldnt mind Simpson moving on, good lad and a tryer granted but lacks quality, would be good back-up and i imagine the contract offer reflects that this is the clubs plans, he will be replaced hopefully when we sign another high quality attacking fullback in the summer, ala santon who is class but has a lack of people playing off him at the moment.

Yeah, i could never bash a player like that, what do they think he is, a cartoon character?
The man reads the tweets, an actual human being.
It’s pathetic and cowardly imo.
For me, Simmo has been quite consistant, and he hasn’t done anything, imo, that could cause him to lose the spot. He’s been ever present, not missed a game, not even cups. He’s been a real stalvart for us. He might not be the best RB, but he damn well gets the job done 80% of the time, and that’s pretty good if u ask me.
I hope he signs, but have feeling he wont.

Comment #17Why do people think its acceptable to insult simpson ameobi on their twitter accounts, people on here have opinions on their ability fair enough but it is a disgrace that somebody like simpson gets personel abuse when he gives the club 100%, load of sh1te if you ask me,
feel a bit for some of our lads. Mostly Obertan actually who i think has had a decent start to his NUFC career and should be encouraged, some of the dipsh1ts i have sat next to at matched are a disgrace.

Comment #19The banking crisis in a nutshell….
Bob bought a donkey from a farmer for £100.
The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day.
The next day he drove up and said, ‘Sorry son, but I have some bad news. The donkey’s died.’
Bob replied, ‘Well then just give me my money back.’
The farmer said, ‘Can’t do that. I’ve already spent it.’
So Bob said, ‘OK, then, just bring me the dead donkey.’
The farmer asked, ‘What are you going to do with him?’
Bob said, ‘I’m going to raffle him off.’
The farmer said, ‘You can’t raffle a dead donkey!’
Bob said, ‘Wanna bet?. Watch me. I just won’t tell anybody he’s dead.’
A month later, the farmer met up with Bob and asked, ‘ What happened with that dead donkey?’
Bob said, ‘I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at £2 each and made a profit of £898’.
The farmer said, ‘Didn’t anyone complain?’
Bob said, ‘Just the guy who won. So I gave him his £2 back.’
……..Later, Bob was offered a senior management position with the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Comment #20Im thnking goal line clearences are good but would sooner the ball not be getting onto our area in the first place, maybe a full back who could actually challenge in the air clearing the ball before he has to cross his fingers on the line, hoping it may strike him, maybe everyone should just stand on the line when we have set pieces to defend, maybe a bit harsh but for me clearances off line do not make a good footballer, the fact that he constantly gives the ball back and rarely offers when midfielders are in possession makish a ten a penny FB, who IMO is our weakest link when we get all our players back.

Comment #22Agreed Dannyo. Some of the comments are bang out of order, he’s a canny lad and does his fair share of graft on the pitch and off it. Don’t get me wrong, there’s been times when he’s frustrated me but compared to some of the shite we’ve had in the past, he’s world bloody class haha

Comment #24Just wanna say something about the whole HBA discussion, when he is playing with Best and Ameobi they don’t make any runs when HBA dribbles so he gets isolated. When Ba and Cisse are playing defenders will not know who to mark and the front three will rip them apart. And by the way HBA can pass the ball to all those who think otherwise.

Best i lazy my friend and Ameobi is chronically injured – is hips or something is ruined. He cannot even run at full speed.
It’s very clear in the second half – BUT AP likes it that way, then hoofball it is.
Some people on this blog don’t like it when we tell it how it is 😉 lol
Besides that AP’s a fine manager…just need to work on his stubbornness. It’ll be his down fall.

Haha, I know it just winds me up when people slate HBA when he is certainly one of the most talented footballers in the league let alone that have ever worn a black and white shirt. With Cabaye , Ba, Cisse, Santon and HBA we could be playing some extremely exciting football

Comment #31I loved Obertans goal and I also loved the way he had a great chance to cross from the back and completely stuffed it up. Couldn’t fault the kid having just come on and scored and very very nicely placed goal. He showed complete composure and his speed makes me think he might be a better option up front as a third striker rather than being on the wing/instead of best.

Ameobi has played 15 games so far this season and Best has played 17.
By the way did you know Best full name is “Leon Julian Brendan Best” 🙂 lol
Demba Ba has played 19 🙂
You can see why I confused who’s our two strikers 😉
But if you cannot promise me that’s about to change then Hallelujah hehe…

One of the most talented players to have ever worn the shirt? Come on man, that’s pushing it…
The lad’s done nothing in his career that could put him up there with the likes of Beardsley, Shearer, Keagan, Milburn, Super mac…..
And I don’t see anyone slating him – it’s just odd how when HBA has a bad game, it’s everyone elses fault. But the same logic doesn’t apply to other players.
I think we’ll see the best of him when he’s got two talented strikers infront of him – and against QPR he linked up with Jonas very very well.
Maybe when he retires with a hundred international caps, a hundred career goals and a few hundred assists, we can talk about putting him up there!

Comment #37jesper, of course it’s about to change. Can you ever imagine Ashley opening his arse up spending £10m, if he wasn’t going to play every game! I doubt we’ll ever see a signing for that much under Ashley again. Unless of course we sell another average forward to Liverpool for £35m. Best maybe?

Comment #38Colo should be given the same contract terms and conditions as he signed back in 2008. Believe me, we won’t get anyone better for half the money and his consistency and injury record is excellent. He is the quintessential ingredient in what we have achieved this season.
Simpson, whilst acknowledging his weaknesses, has a good heart and proven to be much more value than the 500k we paid for him, and if you accept the ultra frugality of this regime, you should hope he re-signs as we may not find a better replacement.
As for Guthrie..I would trade him. IMO,although reasonably neat and tidy, he lacks the essential bits a midfielder requires to be a first teamer at a top club (which I hope we will be). Lack of physicality, pace and creativity are the weaknesses that would make me look elsewhere.
