    Good game.

Very even at times. Both could have taken a win and deserved it.

Ultimately, we held possession well which bagged us the game. We were constantly pressuring. That was the difference between us and Villa. They looked dangerous at times but we looked like we could catch them at any.

I dont think we can pick on any one player, which is good.

    Honourable mentions to:

Ba: Scored and worked hard. Did well considering he’s just come back from ACN.

Cisse: Incredible work rate. Very productive player. Great control of the ball and great strength. Good goal. The type of player we desperately needed. Welcome to Newcastle Rodney.

Guthrie: The player i probably criticised most last season has come back in briliiant form this season. Dont think he has had a bad game this season. Again has great control of the ball. Always picking out a good pass. Another team player. I;m beginning to rate this man as highly as Cabaye. And in fact I would like to see him paired with Tiote a bit when he is back.

Krul: Need I say more. best keeper in the prem. Very likeable guy too.

Colo: again a rock. always good.

Perch: At times seemed very quiet like he wasnt in the game. But make no mistake about his contribution today in breaking up attacks. He has been bandied around in positions so to come in for a full match and link up that well is very good. Also criticised him like Guthrie a lot last season but i think we have finally found a suitable role for him. He will never be anything more than cover for Tiote but From his form lately I have confidence he can do this for us.

Also well done Obertan: This is a player who was thrown in the deep end after playing nowt at Man U. He looked more full of confidence. Yes he still ran into pockets but Simmo was always there to help him out. He was also a lot more productive today than he was before he got dropped. I am still confident this guy can develop. He has an abundance of skill. He did more for the team than Benny did in his last few games. Could be very good if he scaled back his style of play.Still needs to learn when to pass. But i also felt he was excluded from the game at first. He came into it at the end. He just needs more playing time.

Simmo: still getting stick on here. People need to get their heads out of their @ss and watch him. Yes like i said earlier he and Santon did at times make us vulnerable. But Simpson is a driving force in many of our attacks. He also has a positive influence on the team. He has leadership abilities. He is a team player. Watch him closely next time because I dont get this huge stick he gets from some of you guys. And i think it is just because he is a very Passive defender and we are not used to that. I for one hope he stays. He is very solid.

Yes, but the compactness and the combined work rate of Perch, Guthrie and Gutierrez will be superb help to the defense. Whilst, they will be the team who will have to be worried about how their going to defense because we can take the game to them with Hatem Ben Arfa, Cisse and Ba.

Papiss Demba Cisse on scoring Newcastle’s winner against Aston Villa

“I didn’t even think that it was a beautiful goal, I was just happy to see the ball cross the line. I will remember this day because of the goal and I will work hard to get many more days like this.”

for next match (though i know this is too bold for pards to drop willo)

    simmo….perch….colo…..santon
    obertan/HBA..guthrie..abeid..guti
    ………………ba………………………….
    …………………….cisse………………

when our whole squad is back play this

    simmo….perch….colo….santon
    …………………tiote……………………
    …………guthrie…cabaye…………
    oba/HBA……Cisse…………Ba…

perch does well in the DM role but the game passes him by too much. Willo looks increasingly out of his depth and does not deserve to start the next match

guthrie my MOM today by a country mile

Depends what Pards expects of the team, I would highly doubt that he will be telling the lads that we are going to go to White Hart Lane to outplay Spurs because, in short, that is never going to happen, they have an abundance of pace, skill, trickery, flair whatever we may think of them they are probably the most technically astute team in the league, even better than City at times. I would think he is going there with a plan to try and strop them from playing, choke their midfield, ruffle a few feathers and catch them on the break or with set pieces.

I cant’ stop watching the Cisse goal either how on earth did he do that.

The ball didn’t even dip. Beautiful.

So pleased for Ba too, I was secretly worried he wasn’t gonna have as good as 2nd half to the season, esp with the way senegal played.

Incredible. We have two 20 goal a season striker up front boys. Now we just need to find the right way to supply them but these guys can make goals out of nothing.

meant when we get cabaye and tiote back

willo definitely needs to get dropped. he makes simmo look worse than he is and the defense is always on the run with him back there. we never look comfortable or competent. i’ve been perch’s biggest detractor (ok, besides brutoon) but on form, which is what the team should ALWAYS be picked off of though it hardly ever is with pardew, perch should take willo’s place, no brainer

    9 + 19 = 28 goals this season. that’s 11 more to go in 14 games.

    I have a feeling!

That’s why I think, despite any issues he might have with other people at the club, we could have done with bringing Bassong back on loan.

felt all through january we needed a wing back before another CB. perch can and deserves to fill in for the rest of the season with willo 3rd choice. simmo is like throwin the dice and seeing what you might get from him on any given day

    @Ruddy Marveaux-lous

Of course, but that is exactly what Perch, Guthrie and Gutierrez would do. Stop them from playing their usual type of game. I never said out-play them, what I said was their defense isn’t great, similar to ours (perhaps slightly better than ours). Therefore I am suggesting we our attacking players (Hatem Ben Arfa, Cisse and Ba) to put their defense under pressure which will then take the pressure off our defense.

I don’t think parking-the-bus for 90 minutes at White Hart Lane will work.

Yes Willo is our weak link at the back. But I think we spend too much time criticising a good defense in the league.

Our main problem is a lack of creativity on the wings and inability to get the necessary bodies in the box.

We now have 2 machine strikers that both work very hard. I think This bodes well for us as we can now win games from the front rather than relying on one goalscorer (Ba) and defending that.

Guthrie is our most creative player by far at the moment. With 2 strikers Benny needs to be more creative for the team as opposed to himself.

I’d be half inclined come summer to actually get a LB in and play Santon on LW.

Villa’s defense were good at closing down our attacks on the wings. And dealt with Ba presence fairly well even if their defense looked shaky at times. They did do a good job.

I reckon we would have skinned the defense that Man U are fielding today.

For Spuds i would like to see the same team we saw for most of today.

    Simmo Willo Colo Santon
    Obertan Guthrie Perch Jonas
    Ba Cisse

Cisses work rate today did make it feel like we had a 5 man midfield. He did the role Pard wants Benny to do with less skill but more effect.

Would maybe Keep Raylor in place on RW if he is fit though. Just for his defensive capabilities.

    MOTD for me was Guthrie

How come the Villa #3 stayed on the pitch after takeing Raylor’s lehs with a 2 footed tackle?Even if Raylor had been uninjured then under the current guidelines for refs thay had to be a straight Red. Or was the ref too busy ball-watching?
