An update on the two Newcastle injured players, Ryan Taylor and Leon Best after the game, is that the prognosis will not be fully known for a day or two.
Ryan Taylor – tumbles over after tackle with Stephen Warner
The loose ball went to Demba Ba who smashed it into the net
Ryan Taylor was stretchered off after Demba Ba had scored Newcastle’s first goal after 30 minutes, and his right leg was put into a leg brace as a safety-first procedure, before leaving the pitch.
Ryan was taken to hospital and had an Xray, and the good news is the leg is not broken, but there is a huge swelling on his right ankle, so it may take a day or two to know exactly how bad that injury is to the versatile Newcastle player, once the swelling subsides.
And Leon Best was taken off with a knee injury after just 12 minutes, and it seems he has some medial ligament damage, so that doesn’t sound too good, but exactly how bad it is, the Newcastle medics don’t know yet.
But there are reports that the Ireland striker could be out for up to six weeks, as both Leon and Ryan were involved in tackles with Stephen Warnock, the Aston Villa left back, which caused the injuries to the Newcastle players.
Stephen Warnock got into difficulty himself, after a clash of heads in the first half, but after several minutes of treatment, was able to carry on.
This is what manager Alan Pardew said to the BBC after the game:
“I think Leon is okay,” “He’s hurt his medial ligament but we’re hoping he’s going to be okay.”
“Ryan has had an X-ray and there’s no breaks there, but a big swelling on his ankle.”
“So we’re hoping he’s okay because he’s had a fantastic season for us, he really has.”
We’ll have to wait and see what the later news is on both Newcastle players, but it could take a day or two.
Comments welcome.

Comment #81MagpiesFlyHigh “We’re 5th and looking good for a top seven finish. So exactly what is Pardew doing wrong ?
How badly have our squad players really performed ?”
Perfectly put. There are some people on here still moaning everyday about the Norwich game. I kid you not. The only worry I retain is departures.. be it Pardew, Ba, Colo… and.. deep breath here… Ashley?! First time I’ve said that but as much as he’s got wrong in terms of PR, etc. I just want us to build now upon this set up and no more Vegas or bust.

Comment #82Shola did exactly as he was asked when he came on. He dropped back in his new Geordie (Deon) Dublin role and won a few headers, made a couple tackles, won an important few freekicks, and successfully kept possession when we were running the clock down.
He is our longest serving player and club legend. He was obviously never going to be our go to option, hence Ba & Cisse but he will have played his entire career with us and deserves our praise.
Love you Shola!

Comment #83Whatever happens in the summer, I’m going to enjoy getting there, best season for years, I think if we get some momentum going we will keep our top players. We can guarantee them first team football – unless a crazy bid comes in (less likely due to new financial rules) or an offer from abroad then I think we’ll be alright.
@ Ben Yeah Fergy can play at LB but he’s a little lightweight, needs a good steak and milk diet. Good reserve cover though.
Anyhoo MOTD soon!!!! 🙂

Comment #85Ben I don’t mean I would sell him, he’s third choice cm for me. The lads done himself no harm at all since the acon started. my point was he is out of contract in the summer and we are hard negotiators when it comes to new deals. If we don’t resign him soon he could leave on a free.
Spuggy I see what you mean now, a plus of four players is unlikely. As we saw in the summer we tended to replace the players we lost barring Campbell at CB so it may be a case of upgrading certain positions by selling one or two players. I cannot see us giving lovenkrands a deal and smith is def not getting one so that’s minus two players from the first team.

Comment #86Think Pards got the tactics just about right today, especially since two early subs were forced upon him.
HBA will get games once Cabaye & Tiote return and we can afford the luxury of his losing the ball. Would even consider him tucked in behind Ba in a 451 next week as we’ll need more finesse against Spurs.
Rest assured the future links v bright
Can’t wait to see Cisse/Ba once they get bedded in & have all our big hitters feeding them through balls!

Comment #87Agree about saying fair play to Perch, I was a doubter, ever since he replaced Colocinni and he got a warm embrace, he’s been miles better… Make of that what you will lol…
For me though… Gutierrez… What an asset… Ray Wilkins even said he loved him.. My word

Some would argue that but thats player for player but we have to trust that Pards knows the team he put out was the strongest he could and going by his performances as our manager I dont doubt him
As for players coming back we have 2 of the best CMs in the EPL to come back into our squad, a relatively unknown talent in Marv and Saylor who was playing the season of his life pre injury I know its biased us commenting on NUFC but a fully fit NUFC starting 11 plus subs are a match for anyone in the league

Hehe, picked up on your MA build there, i’m not gonna “gloat” or anything like that, don’t worry.
I just thought i to am afraid of any “disturbances” atm.
I hope to god AP doesn’t get an invite for the England job.
I know we’ll lose 1-2 of our best players, but hopefully sign someone just as good or better.
And i don’t want MA to leave now as u say, he sucks at PR, but there’s definitly structure now and the organisation as a whole seems to work.
Again, i’m dead afraid of anything that could upset this now, just leave things as is and strengthen where needed 😛

Comment #90I cannot believe what a player Guthrie has transformed into…I’d go as far to say I’d prefer him to Cabaye on current form.
We have such depth of quality to our midfield however, I can’t say the same for our Centre backs! One injury to Collo or Williamson and that will cost us points.
Excited for the remaining games though..Howay the lads!

Spuggy – Daring to dream of a European place finish, bit of revenue in the summer, current top players resigning, etc. It would still have to be a couple of really top signings to walk into this first team for me.
We have by my count 7 bonafide ‘top 4’ quality players: Colo, Krul, Simmo, Tiote, Cabaye, Ba and Cisse (by the look of things) Behind them: Jonas, simmo, Guthrie and saylor. Arfa, Vuckic. Ober and Marveuax have the potential. Raylor, Perch, Willo all good squad options.

I’d love it if we pitched in for any of those (luke de jong, Douglas and Hoilett). That’s an incredible 3 players for nowt, but there will be a lot of teams pitching in for them.

So very true, being 5th is a feat of strength that far too few realises at times imo. So here’s a recap of the season.
– Loss of Barton, Enrique and Nolan
– Gained Cab, Marv, Ba, Santon, Elliott, Obertan & Abeid.
– An RW that has played LB, RB, RW and CM
– An RB that has played CB, DM and CM
– A nr 10 that has played ACM, RW and CM
– Two RBs that once played CB together
– A rightfooted LB that also played RB once
– Saylor out for season
– Marveux out for 3/4 of a season
– Tiote, Ba and partly Cisse at ACN
– Suspensions for Cabaye, Gosling and Gutti
– A front line consisting of Shola, Loven, Best and Ba
– Collo injured here and there
– An RW that has had much disrespect and struggled to find his footing in the side.
After ALL THAT, we’re 5th.
I’d like to see the odds.

Comment #94* I meant santon – top 4 quality..
Dannyo – Aye, we had just cause to feel aggrieved by Ashley in the past. But he has made us ruthless and efficient in fairness. Other clubs must be looking at our transfer policy and be having absolute kittens eh. So should add Carr to that list of ‘hands off’.

Comment #97I’m not sure we will lose any of our best players this summer. I think the team spirit will make them want to stay and also if they have confidence in Pards they’ll want to know how far he can take the team. They’ll be curious. – it’s the glory of the ride… and we have pretty much the best support in the EPL. All the players – even Joey have complimented the way Pardew deals with them.
There was some incredibly stupid comment on a previous thread that as he was only a mediocre player himself he was jealous of HBAs skills and that was why he wasn’t starting him. HBA is a very thoughtful person and has obviously matured as a human being since that injury and has only to apply this consistently to his playing style so step up a level. Some of the best football managers have not been top players but have the different skillsets needed for management. …

Yup, Carr should deffo be on that list. Imo, what we’re doing is pioneering, the weight we put in scouting, the deals we’re constructing… All that is immense.
Some will soon start to follow that model, except perhaps Arsenal who’s doing it already, to a degree.
As soon as more club follows the model, it’ll get allot harder for us to find that gem.
I do wonder what ripple effects it’ll have in the footballing world over the next 10 years.

Comment #100Guys… Jonás Gutiérrez… I’m not his agent lol but he is so consistantly integral to our defense and link up play it’s incredible… I know he gets the plaudits at the game but online he gets nothing…. He is immense for us down the left… He made Enrique better, Raylor and now Santon… He has been amazing for us.
I know people online say he doesn’t deliver many quality balls into the box…. But he is there… Putting balls in the box… While also helping out much more than any other winger in the league(World?) in defense… Credit where it’s due lads.

Hehe, so i forgot some i see 😛
Thing is, outside 1-2 injuries and the incomings and outgoings at the start of the season, all of these things Pardew has had to handle “on the fly”.
I’d like to see a bit more youngsters get the shot in place of out of position players getting in there, but that’s my only complaint really.
I dunno much i’d do different otherwise. The difference is the belief Pardew has installed in them.
Going out there to win matches. It’s really something.

Comment #108Thanks Spuggy… Guti is so undervalued online…
& Dannyo, that is one of my concerns too… I want to see the youngsters coming in when the regulars aren’t performing… VERY GOOD POINT…. That is an opportunity to blood them… Vuckic is the future… We’ve been bad, historically, at blooding them.
Pardew, historically, is however, good at doing just that… We shall see
