Demba Ba has given an interview in the Guardian, and he says some revealing things.
Demba Ba – after scoring his 16th league goal of the season yesterday
The main thing he says is that he has no desire at all to leave Newcastle, and he is very happy at the club, and he thinks it’s just great that Papiss Cisse has joined him on Tyneside.
Ba, who scored a real opportunist goal after 30 minutes yesterday in the 2-1 win against Aston Villa, his 16th league goal of the season – not bad for a free agent – has said he is really happy that “very quiet guy” Papiss Cisse has joined him at Newcastle.
We’re sure there are a lot of Newcastle fans who agree with him on that, and there are an awful lot of people today talking about his wonder goal after 70 minutes, that won the game for Newcastle yesterday.
This is what Demba Ba said in his interview:
“I never talked to anyone to say I wanted to leave,” “I was just listening to people saying ‘He’s going there, he’s going there, he’s going there’ and I had a big smile on my face. It was funny to me.”
“The most important thing is being happy with your football and I am happy here.” “I always said that I wanted to keep my number 19.”
“I always said that, if someone comes in and you want to give him No 9, don’t even ask me – just give it to him if he wants it.” “The manager asked me if I didn’t mind it going to Papiss. I said just give it to him if it helps to sign him.”
“Papiss was a great signing for us,” “I was really happy when he signed because I talked to him a little bit beforehand. I just said, ‘Go on. Sign.'”
“He asked everything about Newcastle, about the supporters and the club but I’ve not told him everything, because I wanted him to see for himself what it’s like here.”
“I think he loved the reception he got but he hasn’t seen anything yet.” “I am really, really happy for Papiss,” “Both of our parents are from Senegal and, even though I grew up in France, I always lived like I was in Senegal.”
“It’s really important to score for a new club early on; when you come in and score right away you feel much better. It helps a lot and his was a goal of real class on the perfect return to Newcastle for me.”
“It was such a good day; there wasn’t even too much snow.” “I think the Senegalese are happy about it,” “I guess there are a lot of Senegalese Newcastle fans now.”
“But Papiss is a very quiet guy, all the fuss and hype will not affect him.” “I’ve told him everything about the No9 shirt here but I’ve always said it is just a number.”
“We go to Tottenham and believe we can win,” “I look at the table and think ‘Fifth, woah.’ Now we just need to continue our road, continue what we are doing. We need to keep our focus but, as long as we do that, we’ll be dangerous.”
With Tottenham and Liverpool playing out a rather tame 0-0 draw tonight at Anfield, where Tottenham seemed content to hang on for the point in the second half, it behooves Newcastle to go all out for the win at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon, however unlikely a win may be.
Faint heart never won fair lady is a slogan we should remember as well as fortune favors the brave, and neither Liverpool nor Tottenham were brave enough tonight to get the win, and so they settled for 2 points lost.
And tonight’s result means Newcastle gained 2 points on Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea in the latest round of games in the Premier League – round 24.
Newcastle are not expected to do anything at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon, other than to surrender 3 points in the nicest possible way to top London club, Spurs.
So let’s go all out for the win, and scare the living daylights out of them at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.
We’ll have two lads up front who could certainly scare the living daylights out of any defense – as we all witnessed yesterday.
Howay The lads!!

Comment #54Boom – I don’t think our current management want to indulge in the past but I don’t like his attitude and I’ll never forget him not even listening to the manager’s (Sir Bobby’s?) team talks as he was more interested with his mobile. He’s a very good player but I don’t think he’ll be a success a second time besides the recent boos at him will still be fresh in his memory.

Comment #55Zog was on fire when he came back last season, think he’s really down in the dumps looked out of sorts this time around but i was glad when he was taken off.
I’d have him back but he probably needs a bit of a kicking by Stevie Taylor in a broom cupboard.
Can play at LB too.

Comment #58I think we would have got him back this season but his price tag was too high. I would agree that he wants to be here, but would he be a disruptive influence is another matter. We have enough wide players. If one goes he’s worth looking at again. IMO.

Comment #60Back in the summer I was one of those calling for us to sign nzogbia as his contract was nearing was expiring with Wigan. I think now he is at Villa with a lengthly contract he would be out of our price range and not very good value when you consider hoilett is out of contract (diving bugger I know).
This summer for me is very important. It appears a top seven finish could be on the cards so mainting that top seven finish I’m important for us to retain key players. I’m confident we will pitch in for the right players and find good value. It seems there are plenty of good free agents in the summer. Now its time for us to secure our good players and improve in whichever positions we can whether it be stronger cover players or good youth. I’m actually excited for once, just hoping the club do not kick us in the teeth at some point and cause unrest amongst the fans. We could become a force again 😀

Comment #63hehe sorry Boom but we should be thinking outside of the box and I am really pleased at all the quality signings we’re doing under this board if wou think about it ou team is almost complete just wait for them to develop an even better understanding with eachothers play with time. We already have a brilliant spine in Krul,- Saylor, Colo – Cabaye, Tiote and Ben Arfa – and Ba, Cisse up top.
What we’ve been seriously lacking ever since we sold Solano then Milner are wingers that can play THAT good FINAL BALL to our strikers.
If we sort that out we’re really on our way to the Big Time! I honestly believe we have one already in Marveaux just need one more at least.

Comment #64Don’t get me wrong BB I agree he is a class act down the left when he is not spitting the dummy out but his attitude stinks.
If he accepted a basic wage as an indicator he wanted to be here then consideration should be called for but he has a very highly inflated opinion of his importance to the team.

Comment #65JP I agree. As good as Jonas is he doesn’t often put in a good ball and has the same number of assists as Arfa and Obertan despite starting 23 games. Obertan is frustrating but has great potential. He annoys me at times because he seems to do unnecessary stepovers and then runs close to the defender. If he learns to deliver a bit sooner he could be a good winger. Marveaux we haven’t seen enough of but the lad has already got 3 assists in all comps for us. If only we had of signed Adam Johnson eh?

Feb 7, 2012 at 1:55 AM
Comment #66nick9 – Yeah Adam Johnson forgot about him if you could look back at Ed’s Blog you would see I wanted us to go for him as he would be perfect. He is tricky, quick with great technique and under-rated in my opinion. How much would he be worth now?

Comment #68I think he would cost a lot, his wages are probably quite substantial too. His contract expires in 2014 if I remember rightly so he could be one for the future. If only we hadn’t of released him as a youngster. I think Ferguson can whip a ball in but the chances of him displacing Guti are slim.

Comment #70@nick_9 (66) – Did we really release Adam Johnson as a youngster? That’s so frustrating!
I remember seeing him for U21s a few years ago and thinking he was going to be incredible.
Just wish he’d get played on the left more so he can cross more often. At City he’s starting to get a bit one dimensional: cut inside. Curl ball into far corner. Repeat.

Comment #71I said to a mate of mine at the time of the Cisse signing….
“That’s a very astute move by the club”, it ticked all the right boxes and heres my outlook why…
There was ALOT of talk of Demba Ba going, release clauses etc etc. He didn’t have someone to share the burden of leading our attack and lets not forget the ticking time bomb of the exploding knee 😉
The club had two options imo…. Offer Ba a vastly improved contract costing £X millions over the years. That may keep him here but that would still leave him to score most of the goals.
The other option was to sign his international team mate, keeping Ba happy at the time and having someone to share the work load up top.
The latter happened and seems to have done the trick given the statements attributed to Ba!
Don’t get me wrong, I think we should still improve his contract and remove that silly clause lol

Comment #72Gonufc yeah he played for us at a young age. The only article I can find is one from the chronicle – http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2010/12/24/how-adam-johnson-got-away-from-newcastle-72703-27881795/
if Lovenkrands leaves in summer I hope we sign an up and coming striker as 3rd/4th choice behind the dembas. Having watched spurs tonight they do look dangerous and play at quite a good tempo. I think bale should be man marked and forced onto his right foot all the time. If we can keep him quite then we stand a much better chance of coming away with a point or three. Saw a link someone had posted earlierth an injury table on, trust spurs to have vdv, Lennon and a few others back for our game.

To finish 4th, in the lat 3 seasons in the PL
2011: 68 pts
2010: 70 pts
2009: 72 pts
Our rate of points is 1.75 points a game. Hopefully we will continue out good form, specially with a stronger attack now, and Cabaye and Tiote coming back soon, we have 14 games.
14 * 1.75 = 24.5 points , round it down to 24.
66 points.
There is a good chance for 4th, and if not, then definitely 5th or 6th.
We have 14 games from which the more “difficult” ones (Because we can win or loose against any of the teams in a certain day, Man U and Fuham as exhibit A and B).
Top teams:
Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man C are in there.
Bottom:
Wolves, Wigan, Bolton, WBA.
And the middle of the table:
Scums, Everton, Stoke, Swansea, Norwich
I think anywhere from 18 to 26 points out of these games is realistic enough. I think that 7 wins, and 4 draws is what we are looking at. At least that is what I am hoping we will get. Anything above this is a bonus, anything under this, but minimum 18, and I will be happy.
So good luck to us 🙂

Comment #78After seeing that kick to parkers stomach – it is clear that:
Suarez is the dirtiest player in the Premier League this season by far
Ball isn’t even near where his foot was headed, if he was going to challenge for the ball – he could have jumped to head it
Clearly intentional

Comment #79Good morning lads. really need your HELP!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1321483/Ex-Newcastle-Tottenham-ace-David-Ginola-targets-card-golfs-Senior-Tour.html
There is a picture here of David Ginola from the 1995-1996 season if I understand corectly, and after a search of about 20 mins on google, I found this pic, I think this is the first pic of a Newcastle player I have ever seen, and it was what got me interested at that age of 12-13 in football and in Newcastle.
So my question is: who are we playing against? And if you know, what was the date of the game?
I remember picking up a newspaper that was all dirty, on a rainy day, about 100 meters from my home, and I saw a photo of Ginola, but I am not sure if it was exactly this one.
It was November-January, so I want to know if this photo fits the time.
Please help 🙂

Comment #80Oleg G – I’m pretty sure the player next to Ginola is Dan Petrescu playing for Chelsea.
