Injury Update – Taylor Could Be OK – Best Out About Six Weeks

There’s been an update on the injury situation with Ryan Taylor and Leon Best today.

Ryan Taylor goes down just before Demba Ba scored yesterday

The Newcastle medical team have further assessed the two players this morning, but Leon Best seems to have suffered some medial ligament damage in his left knee,  and as Alan Pardew mentioned yesterday, that’s usually a six week layoff.

The former Coventry and Southampton striker will have a scan on Tuesday on his injured knee, but it is likely he will be out for a number of weeks.

But there’s some  encouraging news on Ryan Taylor, that there is no break to his right leg, after he was taken to hospital and X-rayed on it yesterday.

And the further good news today is that it appears after a further inspection by the Newcastle medics, he has suffered only soft tissue damage to the right ankle, and he’s receiving treatment for that at the moment.

And while Ryan may not be ready for the game at Tottenham next Saturday,  if there is no further damage found to his ankle, he should be okay for the home game with Wolves on Saturday, 25th February.

In short, it’s not good news for Leon, but it could be very encouraging news for Ryan Taylor, as his injury appeared very bad when he was stretchered off yesterday afternoon with his right leg in a cast.

Comments welcome.

    We’ll miss Raylor against the Spuds.
    Certain starter, but for his injury, I reckon.

    Lee Dodd.. Are you kidding me!
    Cabaye is a dirty little so and so.. did you see the challenge on that ugly bugger Spearing at liverpool (you know, the one when Spearing came diving in on Cabaye, Cabaye jumped and Spearing hit Cabaye on the follow through) that was disgraceful! Lucky for us Cabaye did not get sent of and given a 5 match ban for that!!

    I am obviously being sarcastic but it does not come off well when typing. Cabaye is a hard grafter, and finds himself in situations where either he gets clattered, or he puts the foot in for the ball. The only challenge he has made that was a little over the top, was the one against ze mackems when he put his foot through their right backs shin (Bardsley I think)

    What a headache for Pardew when Tiote and Cabaye return,our midfield imo has never been this good and so much inn form.

    Best way to put them all in is to play 3-5-2 but thats suicidal in EPL so no need to take that risk.
    I never thought i’d say this but Guthrie is overtaking Cabaye’s place with lightning speed.
    Right now they’re equal in terms of passing,vision,pace,shooting…but Guthrie’s advantage which seperates them, is his physical strenght which makes him a little bit better than Cabaye.

    We need to offer him a very good contract with a release clause of at least 30 mill,cos this boy could be our future captain.

    I don’t think Warnock intentionally hurt Raylor, it was the speed of the ball being played to Ba from Raylor that caught him out. Warnock had to go for that tackle. it was just a shame there wasn’t time for Raylor to jump over the challenge imho.

    Could have been worse news. feel sorry for best but his chances were going to be limited now anyway. Keep Lover and Shola fit for cover and we’ll be OK there.

    Very surprised to hear Raylor could be back so soon, it looked horrific at the time. He’s such a handy player and would probably have started the Spuds game. We’ll need a big game from Ober, helping out Simmo and looking to break on the counter when we win it back (that’s if we start Ober, of course, but I think we will).

    If anyone saw the lunge by Bardsley when he got a red v Toon at Stadium of Doom, it was identical to Warnocks challenge, yet Warnock goes unpunished becasue we got a goal. It does not make the cahllenge acceptable, and the FA need to take another look at the number of times Warnock has done this. He needs to be taught before he ends someones career.

    Whatever will be will be. If we intend to improve the squad again, then we probably have targets lined up for the summer anyway, to take us to the next level, thus Guthrie may not be part of the main vision next year. Make no mistake, he has done a good job as stand in, but he is still too slow across the ground. Good passer of the ball, great vision, but unfortunately he is not above Yohan and Cheick.

    When a Ref starts he is asked which is his favourite team. Are they asked who they dislike? Because I’m sure most of the Refs we get are Scum supporters.

    By the sound of things Alan Pardew is going to treat the Spuds game as a one off and have a go at them and try to outscore them.

    I would normally play with at least 1 defensive minded midfield player but with injuries, suspensions and missing Tiote through the ACON I would go for an attacking formation and try to outscore them.

    I think if we try to contain them with a normal approached game we will get beat anyway with what we have available. so go for it.

    Team to have a go:
    =====================Krul===================

    Simmo========Willo=========Collo=======Santon

    =Obertan========Guthrie===HBA==========Jonas=

    ============Cisse============Ba=============

    Bench: Perch, Fergie, Abeid, Vuckic, Gosling, Loverman & Ameobi.

    Can see Padrew putting Perch in for HBA (but maybe in the 2nd half if we’re up). Other than that drop either Abeid, Vuckic or Gosling for Harper or Elliot as Krul back up

    According to Mike Riley’s latest explanation on both legs tackle, Warnock should get a straight red and sent off eventhough Ba scored seconds later. It seems like just another rule to protect Manure players’ ass.

    ‘Ellow lads. Was in the Moncur Suite last night and we were lucky enough to have a chat with Cabaye and Moncur (Beardo was there too with his family). Before the game Cabaye told us that Cisse was starting from the bench and and and honestly he is such a canny lad and when I asked him if the kick was intentional he said in no uncertain terms that it wasn’t, and he was tryin to move himself from the player landing on him and after the game went into the dressing room to apologise to the lad. El Abds problem at the time was that the ref hadn’t seen it and he felt that was an indicator that the ref wasn’t doing his job, nowt to do with any dodgy feelings with Cabaye.

    Anyway after the match Bob Moncur came back into the suite and had an interview with us. He said that Raylor’s injury was just bad bruising around the ankle but that it’s early days and those kinds of injuries can seem better than they actually are to begin with. Hope he’s wrong and it turns out to be just a bit of bruising…

    That said, I only saw the replay at half time in the suite but I don’t think the lad meant to hurt Raylor. Both he and Shay were standing over him after Demba scored and iirc it was Warnock (I think?) who signalled to the ref to get the physio’s on.

    As for the match, Willo played a lot better than he did in recent times, Perch played absolutely out of skin and really impressed me. He made a few dodgy passes but more than made up for it. His shot must have stung Shay’s hands too! Jonas needs to be dropped. The only thing he did was win free kicks and imo never looked like he was going to threaten anything but the grass.

    Now… Cisse. When Besty went off we all knew what was going to happen and the only people sitting down when he came on were the Villa fans and the disabled access users – he had us absolutely buzzing. Standing ovation across all areas of the stadium before he has even kicked the ball! He got it again after his goal. All in all the lad really impressed me. A good delivery and he will be lethal in the air but there’s going to be a bedding in period I think. Seemed to get a bit lost in the pace of the game at times but he never gave up, cracking player and has the heart of a f’ing lion!

    Still buzzing like after that. Great game.

    Warnock should be Banned .

    Mike Williamson should have cut Zog’s cross out for villas goal ,,he was too slow off the mark and played like a big Amatuer at times .. good contribution mostly but he needs to concentrate more ..little slack periods…
    Pardew will let him know that though so expect a wide awake performance at Spurs..and a few far post excursions .

    Warnock is a disgrace and if the FA dont look at that then there is a vendetta against Newcastle United

    There is a lot of dirty politics at the FA and Phil Garside is as dodgy as they come …

    Also IF Spurs where a team in the north they would be Bolton Wanderers .. economics etc, Geographical location etc….

    Please don’t refer to Spurs as a big Club ..they are riding Harry’s dodgy wave at the moment. We are twice the club Spurs will ever be ..check out the last 15 years of history and compare theirs with ours

    Big billing I know, but I firmly believe we have the new Eto’o. From what I’ve seen he reminds me so much of him: shooting from the hip with both feet, emphatic finishing, quick bursts over 10 yards, determined and always trying to optimize his space – a constant threat.

    To Papiss-tol and Ba-zooka! HTL 😀

    If we work hard against Spurs, we can stay in touch with them. If Spurs haven’t put the game to bed then they tend to struggle in the last quarter. I certainly wouldn’t rule out a draw, but as long as we have a go I will be happy. Hopefully the Mackems will draw with Arsenal, Liverpool could well lose (Man U) and then we will have lost very little regardless of the result. I honestly feel that we can win half of our remaining games and if we do that, with a draw or 2 thrown in, we will finish 5th at worst.

    That would be a phenomenal achievement. Problem is though, we haven’t played anyone yet 😉

    Chris Waddle (remember him of Diamond Lights fame?) believes Liverpool are serious contenders for a top four place this season and tonight’s game against his former club will be a difficult one.

    “Liverpool play a good tempo, they’ve got a lot of confidence about them at the minute,” he told LFC TV.

    “I was at the Bolton game which was probably their worst performance of the season but since then they’ve kicked on and it just shows how good they are that they’ve beat Man United, Man City, got a good result at Wolves and they’re starting to gel.

    “You’ve got to say that they’re serious contenders to get the fourth spot along with Arsenal and Chelsea. Tonight will be a very good game.”

    A former newcastle player pmsl just goes to show the lack of love we got around the place.

    As kevin keegan said once upon a time i would love it just love it if we got 4th.

    even when we have a very good chance to get 4th we dont even get mentioned.

    Someone was right on this board yesterday if we got 4th they probably call it the big 3 instead of the big 4 and we also wouldnt get all our games live like most of the big 4 does at current time.

    i hate when fans disrespect newcastle like this harry knobnapp did the same thing to do earlier in the season

    show some respect i would of expected a little bit more from a former newcastle player to idiot!!

    If cabayes actions waranted a ban than surely Stephen warkocks 2 footed kung fu kick against ryan taylor yesterday needs to be investigated, Tackles of that nature can be career threatening and I would like this to investigated as it is completely unacceptable and deserves punishment.

    I heard Harry Redknapp on talk sport prior to last world cup say this………

    ” Maraddona drops two players from Inter Milan and picks 2 Newcastle players instead ! what a joke, Newcastle Players , I ask you ..Its a joke ! ”

    That’s what Harry actually said on live radio ..anyone else hear that ?

    And he has tried to undermine us and make trouble with his press conferences on the subject of Demba Ba

    Harry’s Running Scared of Newcastle United and the Taxman !

    Wonder what happened to that £200,000 bung/payment that Alex Ferguson kept in his office safe for 2 years ? He received it from a Norwiegian Agent for services rendered in transfers,,.. IT was put in the safe and left there ..Did I hear a whisper that it was handed in when the last bung enquiry/Investigation’s were doing the rounds ..or did I dream it all ?

Didn’t see him being stretchered off as I took the opportunity to go to the bogs given Demba had just scored.
