Newcastle were completely outplayed, outfought and outclassed in the game at White Hart Lane today, and were two down after only 6 minutes, and it got no better, as the Newcastle side were embarrassed and embarrassing – they were that bad.
This is not the first time Newcastle have collapsed and they did the same thing at Fulham when they conceded five goals during a terrible 45 minutes spell, and the lads also did it at home to Arsenal last February when we were 4-0 down after 26 minutes and we also collapsed at Bolton in November of 2010 when we were hammered 5-1.
Well we suppose a positive thing about today is we only conceded four goals in the first 45 minutes, but it was simply a dreadful display as it looked like a Premier League side was playing against a non-league side, such was the huge gap in class.
And of course this does nothing for our goal difference- which is now zero – so we’ll not get into a high position if we are level on points with any team at the end of the season.
This was a huge wake-up call for Alan Pardew and the Newcastle side, and Alan and the coaches need to find out how a team that can outclass Manchester United and win 3-0 at home, can turn up at White Hart Lane and serve up this tripe – it was that bad.
To say we missed Tiote and Cabaye is a huge understatement, but it shows we really don’t have any strength in depth, and we need to sign new players in the summer.
And probably more defenders than we had planned to sign, because Newcastle just couldn’t contain the physical play of Adebayor, who was involved in all five goals for Spurs.
Guthrie and Perch seemed today completely out of their depth in central midfield, but most of the Newcastle back line also looked to be way out of their depth, as they were simply torn apart again and again by Tottenham.
The good news is it’s only one game and now we need to get back on track in two weeks time by beating Wolves at home.
And it could also have been a lot worse, but Spurs seemed content with a 4-0 or 5-0 win, but if they had to score 10 goals today, they probably could have done it against a pitiful Newcastle side.
And it doesn’t help that our next game isn’t for two weeks, so we’ll have to stew in this until we take on Wolves on Saturday 25th February – which is now a must win game for the Magpies.
The players need to apologize to the Newcastle fans by putting on a committed and good display in that game, this performance was so absolutely pathetic.
I hope I have made that clear.
We will now describe the goals – none for Newcastle so let this act as a a warning to the reader.
After only 4 minutes Adebayor burst down the right wing and his physical play seemed too much for the Newcastle defense, and he fired across the face of goal for the unmarked Benoit Assou-Ekotto and a Newcastle player was nowhere near him as hit the ball home.
Where was Danny Simpson – where was the defense?
Then just two minutes later Spurs were 2-0 up, and it was former Newcastle loan player Louis Saha who scored, as Adebayor beat Coloccini far too easily down the right wing and crossed for Saha who hit the ball home – where on earth was the Newcastle defense?
After 20 minutes Spurs, who were completely dominating Newcastle at the start of the game, went 3-0 up and it was Saha again as Modric beat Danny Guthrie down the left wing and he crossed the ball to Adebayor who laid it off unchallenged to Saha, who hit the ball home.
The Newcastle defense was torn to shreds.
And then after 36 minutes it was four as Kranjcar hit a loose ball home after Tim Krul could only parry a shot, and Newcastle were 4-0 down, and it was shades of Arsenal last February as the half time whistle blew – thank goodness it was still only 4-0.
Newcastle just couldn’t handle Adebayor who had a hand as it were – in all four Spurs first half goals.
At half time we have to think that Alan Pardew erupted at half time in the Newcastle dressing room, as Newcastle played one of their worst 45 minutes of the season, maybe even worse than when we conceded five goals at Fulham in that second half.
Pardew will erupt with this sad performance from the Newcastle United side, and it’s not the first time this team has collapsed.
Newcastle did it recently in the second half at Craven Cottage, and the first half today was very like the Arsenal game, and the really sad thing is that Spurs could have had even more goals in the first half, such was the superiority of the London team, who were up against an embarrassing and embarrassed Newcastle side.
At half time Shane Ferguson came on for Gabby Obertan and Gutierrez switched over to the right wing and Irishman Shane was on the left wing.
And after 64 minute Spurs got their fifth goal when a cross from the left wing was headed on by Saha to Adebayor, who then volleyed the ball home and it was 5-0, and where were the Newcastle defenders?
On 65 minutes Papiss Cisse was replaced by Dan Gosling, who at least got a run-out, and then Peter Lovenkrands came on for a run-out.
Spurs could have probably scored a lot more in the second half if they had really wanted to – but they were satisfied with a 5-0 scoreline.
And the Spurs display was against a team that started the league in 6th place, but today we gave a performance that looked like a relegation side – we were really that bad.
And what has happened to our defense, which conceded only 8 goals in the first 11 league games, and since then in 14 league games we’ve conceded 28 goals.
It was a bad day at the office. It was a very bad day at the office. It was a terrible day at the office.
And it’s very hard being a Newcastle United supporter – but you already knew that. 😀

Comment #161Didn’t we have a chance to get Harry as manager? At least under Harry we would be playing attractive football not longball!

Comment #163Not playing him hasn’t harmed us so far has it. We are 6th. My point isn’t that HBA isn’t an excellent footballer. He clearly is. But when a player like him is not on top form he is a luxury. He doesn’t fit into a formation. Again you are suggesting a formation which leaves Simpson totally exposed against any decent wide player. Everyone needs to have a bit of perspective. We are doing just fine without him, barring today.

Comment #164And we all know it wasn’t HBA we missed today but Cabaye and especially Tiote. Their presence may have made a difference.

Comment #166It was a true beating by a far better side , simple, don’t panic tottenham can destroy most teams in the world like that when they are in the mood. Let’s just put it down as a shit day and an apology will do and we can move on . Some of you calling for Pardew to be axed are so clueless

Comment #168Right here is my clear out for the summer:
Simpson £3M – £4M – poor defender
Willo £2M – b@lls altogether
Perch £FREE – not at all a PL. player
Obertan £3M – £4M – cant cross or dribble
Raylor £5M – hate to say it but the guys poor
Best £3M – not a bad back up player but we want to get in Europe so…
Ameobi £FREE – too lazy and doesn’t deserve to wear black and white stripes
Say that’s £17m for them and MA gives us around £20m depending on if we finish in Europe, we could get a LB, CB, 2 wingers, decent striker and maybe a back up RB (pieters, vertoghan/douglas, hoilett, erdinc) then this is the team we could have next season.
Krul
Santon Colo Vertoghan/Douglas Pieters
HBA Cabaye Tiote Jonas/hoilett
Ba Cisse

Comment #169Jeez we were embarrassing shite today! and what did Pards says after fulham game? it won’t happen again-my arse it won’t!
Simpson wasn’t wanted by Man U and Willo, along with Perch were Championship players, all brought in by Hughton. Obertan wasn’t wanted by Fergy or fans so we paid £3m for him!!
We’ve got a thin squad because Ashley won’t give Pardew enough money and thinks one player for each position is enough-the man’s mean goon. And Pardews going nowhere as not one other manager anywhere will work under Cashley and Llambias-think back, when they were looking for a manager, most either stated they wouldn’t come here or denied being asked. Redknapp refused the job stating he didn’t want to drag his family up here, but I think it was more the fact that Ashley won’t hand any cash over and the managers wages are so pathetic. No, we’re stuck with Pardew what ever happens as he’ll want out.

Comment #170Oh dear, it seems all the doom and gloom end of the worlders have reared their heads again. We really didn’t play that badly, Tottenham were just perfect and we have to accept that they are a class above us this season. People seem to forget how far we’ve come this season and now expect us to be world beaters every game. Remember Spurs hit Liverpool for 4 earlier in the season.

I dont get why anyone is upset about this result.
Spurs outplayed us because they have better players simple as that the only way we could get result today was if spurs werent at the races which they were.
we were always going to lose this game if spurs played a good game the only bad thing about this game was our goal difference took an almighty hammering.
we dont have many good players in our team we cant compete with spurs.
the only reason we have won so many games this season is not down to our quailty it was down to our worth ethic
when we go 2-0 down it was always about damaged limintation as we dont got any quailtys to get a goal against a top top side.
if you looked at our midfield compared to therer midfield today is pretty laughable.
guthrie never wanted to go forward as a driving force like a gerrard would jonas has lost his pace and the other 2 in there are pretty awful.spurs glided past us with ease.
i am surprised at newcastle fans been upset about this result because newcastle aint a good side we should be very happy that we are 6th in the table because on paper
we are only a top 10-12 side we are on par with everton and sunderland.
we get found out in games like this we also got found out against liverpool away
we only got a point at man united due to pure luck and determination and they had a bad day at office.
stop making out that we have a right to be competing against spurs.
spurs have build a team up for years lets hope we do the same but looking at the dross we have on the bench it might take a good 10 years til we see us giving spurs a good game
it was men against boys today im afraid lads.
im very happy where we are as we shouldnt be there on paper.
also what are u expecting of newcastle?>
how was it a disgraceful performance do u think guthrie can take on luka morderic do you take perch can take on bale do you think willo can take on adebeyor do you think simpson can take on kranjar it was a pure mis match today
and i admit it was pretty embarrasing to watch but not because we played a bad game its just we cant compete with a team like that.
so get over it lads the best team won by a mile not down to a bad performance by us

Comment #172even with tiote and cabaye in the team we would of still lost this game
the score might of been lower 2-0 3-0 or 3-1 but we still would of lost the game.
we lost to liverpool 3-1 away with cabaye and tiote in the team.
these are good games to test how good your team are and it shows we are a poor side.
home results are pure different because your the home side but you see what a good team is like away from home.
we lost to a championshop team 1-0 away from home against brighton
lost 5-2 to fulham
shouldnt of beating blackburn 2-0 on our travels.
liverpool outplayed us at anfield without even getting into top gear as they didnt have to
even spurs played with us a little bit in the 2nd half they probably felt sorry for us if they wanted to score more goals in 2nd half they would of.
lets just be happy we aint in a relegation battle
but the sooner people realise that the gulf between the top 6 and us is huge………………
only reason chelsea and liverpool are struggling is because of poor managers when they get that right see us be swept away by them
and arsenal seem to be going up a gear again now and showing everyone how its done to go and beat a sunderland team right now 2-1 at there pitch really suprises me……..
our main battle every year is 7th from now on nothing bigger nothing lower.
expect our challenegers to be
sunderland
qpr (next season)
aston villa (when get new manager)
everton (cant rule out)
anywhere between 7-15th can juggle around in my opinion.
its like we are in another league the top 6 play for honours while 7-15 play for there own little league
and then 16-20 scrap for relegation lets be happy aint in that last grade anymore

Comment #173SOME of you lot need to climb directly out of “CaptainColo’s” arsehole. I’m reading how other’s make him look bad, have any of you’d ever thought that maybe he plays just as shit as everyone else yesterday. Hope I don’t get completely slated for this and some people out there have sense that it was an all round poor performance.

Comment #174Not having indulged in the ‘we’re marvellous’ comments beforehand, I don’t feel obliged to join in the general moping on here. If you expect the team to play with backbone, maybe we Geordies should start by showing some on this blog?
We started quite well but were too open at 4-4-2 -probably reading our own hype after the Villa win – and got punished twice in succession. Then the fear struck and were were rabbits in the headlights for the rest of it until Spurs drew tired of mauling us in the 2nd half.
I even thought Obertan and Santon weren’t too bad today when I usually think they are total liabilities (they still are, in my opinion).
Perch and Danny G were probably our pick of a poor bunch today but were going nowhere against Parker and Modric who were superb. Bale we all knew about and we won’t be the last team he taunts. When any kind of ball did reach our front 2, nothing stuck for even a couple of seconds, making it very hard work for everyone else, and gradually the runs in support from midfield and fullbacks petered out.
I have sat through some magnificent maulings of Spurs and hope to do so again. Anyone who didn’t know we are weak along the flanks and in squad depth is plain thick, or hasn’t a clue about football, so I have no sympathy for those who profess shock at today’s result. Its been coming and is probably necessary as the lesson of Fulham has clearly not sunk in.
We have been punching above our weight all season in a comparatively weak Premiership. Today we were exposed. That’s all.

Comment #175And anyone who thinks this was a game to introduce HBA is crazy, too. We couldn’t hang onto the ball for 3 passes at a stretch and some of you are holding out for this messiah to come on?
Madness.
He’s a wildcard at best and when he doesn’t get games he’ll create a stink and want to be off, which will happen next year, is my guess, and honestly it’ll be no great loss. We aren’t Harlem Globetrotters and Hatem is not the future.
