Newcastle Have Done Well Without Tiote, Ba and Cabaye

The bid defeat on Saturday was Newcastle’s third in succession without French International Yohan Cabaye.

Cheick Tiote in action for Ivory Coast at ACON

And of course we’ve been without Cheick Tiote since the 3-0 win over Manchester United on January 4th.

And in the five league games since then we have three win and two defeats in which we conceded 5 goals at Fulham and Spurs – but that’s still 9 points in those five games with Tiote missing and Demba Ba missing for the first three of those games.

And we’ve missed Cabaye for the last three games so 9 points from those five games is a good return given so many of our best players were missing.

Things will look a  lot better through the eyes of Newcastle fans if we can beat Wolves at home a week on Saturday, and we’ll have 45 points from 26 games, and that’s just one point short of what we reached last season in the full 38 league games.

That has to be a huge improvement on last season, which is all we were looking for this season, and finishing in the top ten.

Alan Pardew is glad to get his best players back in the side, and that should help the defense from now on:

“It’ll be good to get Tiote and Cabaye back for the next game,”   “We’ve missed them, but I thought we also missed Ryan Taylor. He’s been a big player for us recently and I’m sure he would have helped us had he been in the midfield.”

“If you’d had those three players available, I’m sure it would have shored us up a bit. We’re a little bit limited in that midfield – and that made it tough for our back four.”

The poor performance of our defense – we’ve conceded 28 goals in the last 14 league games – should prompt Newcastle to bring in at least two new defenders in the summer –  a top center-back and a top full back.

That should offer more competition for places next season, and of course we’ll have Steven Taylor back, who was simply terrific for Newcastle before he injured his Achilles  in the Chelsea game, and is now out for the season.

But whoever we bring in during the summer, we have to hope it’s another excellent transfer window for Newcastle,  as the Tyneside club tries to build another top team.

Yes. Sometimes i hate stating facts as it sucks all the joy of being 6th and i would like all of us to enjoy this. I don’t like saying what i did too. But it stands out and has to be brought up.

But if luck were not on our side next season, we would be crushed to know we are playing at a level of a bottom 10 side at most.

We are getting dominated in almost every game, but this guy Demba Ba scores in the very little attacks we do. Remarkable really.

Can’t believe some people on here are questioning Pardew, we are ONE point from 4th in mid February and you’re telling me he isn’t a good Manager.
ilovetoon8788 Bottom 6 if it it was not for Ba. How come Ba is playing the best football of his life, nothing to do with Pardew and how he motivates and uses him?
    —————

Nonsense. How Pardew motivates and uses Demba Ba? Have you seen Ba recent interview with Sky before the game. He’s a true professional who doesn’t like to lose. And he himself said that and that he always gives 100% on the pitch for the fans as that’s the least he can do for the club and the fans.

His attitude is a role model and he’s a character that doesn’t need any motivation.

Stop being blinded by the fact that we are 6th. Pardew is incredibly lucky that Ba is a true professional and a great finisher who knows how to put the ball in the back of the net. If not for Ba, we would be in the bottom 6. yes.

We are having the luckiest season so far with so much luck and Ba on our side. NOTHING to do with Pardew tactical skills. Maybe man management or motivation to a certain extend.

Honestly, in these 23 or 24 games, how many did we truly dominate and played like we are 6th and deserving it? At most 1 or 2. West Brom, Blackburns, Norwich, Fulham, QPRs played us off the park. FACT.

And Pardew did nothing or did very little to change things when things are going wrong. He has been incredibly. That’s all i can say. Stop repeating that we are 6th.

taken from previous thread for further discussion..

Luck happens by presuurising, like Brighton got a victory over us by luck,

Pardew may or may not be a good manager but is definitely a hypocrite

Pardew WE ARE MISSING HBA TO PLAY FOOTBALL FOR THIS F*****G CLUB AS THATS WHY HE WAS BROUGHT HERE TO DO YOU TOOL….

But since you are more perplexed with Perch, Obertan and the likes lets sign Heskey and Carlton Cole to…

I am not calling for Pardews head I am not a moron we need some stability to this club but statements like this send a lot of wrong wibes and its plain as day he is almost cocky to me…. almost turns out we don’t need them.

Pardew tell it like it is man Jesus Christ we are overrun without Tiote we are not that creative end of.

What are you on about mate. Why cant people express their worries.. I know where they are coming from I am personally not a fan of Pardew but we need him. Its true the staff he brought in, we need him fullstop.

His tactics and style of play is not really to be desired sorry to say and yes we could have been smashed on more than one occasion this season thats why the fans are upset.

Dont you recall the day of Arsenal they where a top 5 side but they played absolutely woeful boring football under George Graham.. I am sure their fans would complain..

Ouch….so we are 6th by luck not sure how many people professionally or on this board will agree with that.
Take the Blackburn game for example, we were all crying for HBA to start (me included), first half we might as well have been playing with tem men, he was dreadful, Pardew brings Perch (who most have us have slated) on to replace him and he was probably MOM and that’s just ONE example of many.
When we go one nil up, I no longer think we are going to need to score at least a couple of more goals to hopefully win the game. I think it’s quite obvious that we are better at seeing games out now.
To say being one point behind 4th place in mid-Feb has nothing to do with Pardew and all down to luck is laughable.

Like the rest of you I thought we might get beat but was upset at getting thrashed and completely overrun. However I don’t think this proves Pardew is a bad manager but as we all know we are short in depth. We desperately need a quality CB & FB and cover in midfield especially for Tiote (better than Perch) and possibly a winger who can cross. We are slowly building a squad and hopefully some of these will be addressed in the summer.

I would actually like to defend Pardew.
I feel he has done an incredible job given
what he has at his disposal.
To be one point of the champions league after 25 games
    is nothing short off amazing.
I think the taylor injury has really hurt us,
Williamson struggles so much with any movement or pace.
But what I think has really killed us recently is Tiote.
Anyone who doubts how important he is for us particularly away from home should look at the avg goals conceded when he is there vs when he is not there.
The way we press as a side is completely different when he is there.
He also gives freedom to Cabaye.
As a fan what i would like to see is tiote cabaye jonas and ben arfa start a game in midfield.
To be fair to HBA how many games has he started with Cabaye and Tiote in midfield as opposed to perch and guthrie or one of tiote and cabaye.
I just feel once the are in the side we retain a lot more possession and thus can afford a ben arfa type player in the lineup.

I can’t understand Pardew fetish for Obertan who has been absolute pants for us. Atleast HBA has 3 goals in 5 games for us and has the ability to do the unexpected.

If HBA in Pardew’s eyes is lazy, what about Obertan?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LJXFkfoDBk&feature=related

For the first goal, look at Obertan who is near the bottom of the screen somewhere in the middle. He glances at Ekotto making the run, but makes no effort to mark him. Instead he just continues to take a stroll. And when the cross comes in, he tries to move forward but it’s too late.

    Still angry about it.

HBA can’t track back = 9 out field players on the pitch = problem for rest of team. Thats why he doesn’t get played FACT. We are we’re we are cause we are a well drilled unit. Which may not be pretty at times but its what wins us games. We don’t have the players at our disposal like the top 6 teams. Thats why we have to stick together like a unit. FACT. So much praise for Perch but he has like 6 misplaced passes was tied into a knot…. he can play ok against the bottom teams south of place 10 but rest is a joke…..

HBA looses 2 the ball on the run twice and he is pathetic should be subbed, I am glad games like this happen to unlock the garbage but with this latest statement Pardew is adamant it was a fluke amazing.

The players who’d walk into a top 10 side are Cabaye, tiote, krul, collo, ba, cisse and hba. That’s 7 players, so that means we’re on our way to be a good squad. With some more additions in u know what areas, we’d be battling the top 5 consistantly. Also keep good squad players like simmo, guthrie, best, is vital. However, we’ve been playing with squad players for a while now for various reasons, and u expect us to play super slick and fluid footy with players like our current squad at tottenham? Get real man, swanse has managed to pull it off, but it could nearly have cost them their PL spot. No, Pardew must do what Pardew must do, and if that involves ugly footy until we get the squad strong and up an running, then so be it.
I’m chuffed for our achievemnt, cause it’s throug bloody hard work, not luck. Luck is a measly 10% of it.

If Ba hadn’t been prolific, we would all be calling for Pardew’s head. Because Ba has basically kept Pardew in the job. He has almost 50% of our goals this season. If he wasn’t clinical in the very few attacks we have, our defence would be under tremendous pressure and eventually cracked in most of the games.

I remember having an argument with Solano in pre season. He was certain we were gonna do crap this season. Apparently i was blinded by my love for the club.

Then there was Ba. After TWO games people like these were saying Ba is useless, cant run, ramadam is a s*** excuse. Apparently i was blinded by the fact that he was good at west ham.

The bottom line is. No matter how good things are going some people will always look to the negative. And then when you’re not as wrong and negative as they are they say you’re just deluded.

I have read now for a while all the debating about HBA, I must say im seeing both sides to the argument, Pardew has done a very good job along with Carver and co, results wise,(isnt that what its important?) but football wise im not a massive fan when we have possession it is very direct hence why we have not seen Cabaye at his best as he is by passed, first thought get into the front man(very british FA coaching) effective when works but when it doesnt there is no plan b, BUT why if were guna play that style are we buying the likes of cabaye, marv, hba, santon, i think if we go back to the days of pards at west ham then id say this is what were guna have to get used to,
on the HBA subject, its a tad unfair for what he is being critised for, not tracking back, giving the ball away, well id say…jonas gives the ball away has played poorly for a while, but still plays every week, obertan has done nada! Raylor is solid but wont create, HBA is attack minded simple as that, why would we want him defending, thats not his play, why try and change his play when he can create something out of nothing, im afraid wants defensive minded wingers which is ok for if we want mediocre but if we want the next level to complete with the elite then we need quality, i for one can see HBA leaving and coming back to haunt us playing for someonelike arsenal. such a shame. oh and id be pissed if my chance came when i had best and ameobi to play up top with, look what he did at home against qpr, changed the game, man city, man united. pardew doesnt no how to play him, simple.

I dont often post on here, but reading some of these comments is hilarious! you lot are the most deluded bunch I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. you do realise that only two seasons ago we were playing championship football right? And now u expect us to play like Barcelona? Hmm.. Heres a thought, at the moment taking into consideration last seasons league position we can’t attract Barcelona type players, so this season is about improving league position weather that be through luck, fluke scrappy 1-0 etc. Then we attract better players and so on. Pards can only work with what he’s got, which through injury to Taylor is a shaky backline and some slightly chronic wingers who cant cross the ball for toffee. But we are still in 6th. A point off 4th. Even If we finish 7th it’s an achievement. We can improve the squad with better players and with better players comes better football so stop being so negative and predicting this massive fall down the table and finishing below scum etc and just enjoy the fact were on our way back up the table!!

Sorry guys but the way some of you are reacting is a disgrace. Name me one team that has been in championship in last 10 years thats ahead of us. We have shown improvement over the last 2 year on par or even better than money bags man city, yet we have spent around £10 million. Now we have one of the best CM partnerships in the country, we have one of the best ST partnerships in the country, one of the best goal keepers in the country. despite all this you still complain!! I think next year we can start bringing in players who can play football on the wings like cabaye and tiote can from the middle. One more decent CB and I would say we can compete with the very best. We weren’t saying that a few years ago were we. So get off your high horses and start realising how good we have it right now, cause we haven’t had this good for a while.

We wer never going to win that game with our shady defending of late, Colo was at fault he runs out of posistion to LB or RB trying to win everthing leaving big holes in the CB its like he dosent trust simspon, who has been on the slide for quiet a while, backs of way too much, gets caught out to high up and cant get back he is the standout weak link for me id say on your bike thanks for your efforts. I cant wait to see Santon play RB and raylor to LB wen fit its a badly needed change, our wingers are very poor aswel in the name of god how was ba and cisse going to get chances with a supply line like that? and a out of sorts back four creating havoc throughout the team with their below par defending we dont have the personal to make the needed shake up thats the concern time to earn up wages Mr Pardew.

As far as I can see, all our problems are because of the weak midfield, and previous to the double dembas coming back our weak strike force.
Let me explain, Before the double dembas came in, we were relying on the midfield to get forward and create/score as our strikers were not good enough, so Cabaye and Raylor/obertan etc were pushing up to support the strikers. This left huge gaping holes behind which needed to be filled. Our back 4 pushed up to reduce the space behind the midfield, which made us vulnerable to quick strikers/wingers.
When Cabaye got suspended and Guthrie and Perch came in, we got the double dembas back but could not win the ball in midfield so our strikers and back 4 tried to push into the middle of the park to get the ball, this minimised the threat going forward and left space behind for quick wingers/strikers.
I think since Tiote and Cabaye are back we will see a more rounded team with ball winners and creativity as well as strikers who can read and anticipate the runs to make.
Dont get me wrong, Im not saying this will be us winning every game between now and the end of the season, but, I think we will be better defensively and better attacking. The workrate of the dembas, Tiote and Gutti will see us all right and keep us up in the top 8 at the end of the season.
I dont think were ready for Europe next season though, but progress is being made and it is steady progress.
