Newcastle Interested In Young Wigan Striker

1:56 pm, Monday, February 13th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 232 Comments

It seems that Wigan teenager Rakish Bingham is on Newcastle’s radar screen for the summer.

The 18 year-old striker has been in good form for the Wigan Reserves side this season, and it seems that he is interesting a lot of clubs including Fulham, Manchester City, Sunderland and Glasgow Rangers,  as well as Newcastle.

The news is in the Sun and we reported yesterday that Newcastle would like to bring in a good young striker to the club in the summer, because it’s almost certain that both Peter Lovenkrands and Nile Ranger will be leaving Newcastle.

The lad was born in Newham, London but we notice he wasn’t in the Wigan Reserves squad,  when Newcastle twice beat Wigan in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North this season.

It’s difficult to find too much information about the teenager, so if readers have seen this lad play, let us know what he’s like.

And if Wigan are relegated this season – they are currently rock bottom on 19 points – then it seems that former Newcastle target Victor Moses may be sold, with QPR already registering an interest.

But of course QPR will need to stay in the Premier League too and at the moment they are above the drop zone only because of their better goal difference than Blackburn and Wolves, who have the same number of points – 21 – as QPR.

Maybe Newcastle will increase their interest in the 21 year-old England U21 winger in the summer.

Comments welcome.

“Here are the PL results this year:

    Arsenal (H) 0-0 – Held our own
    Mackems (A) 0-1 – Scraped a win
    Fulham (H) 2-1 – Lucky to win
QPR (A) 0-0 – Should have been stuffed
    Villa (A) 1-1 – Held our own
Blackburn (H) 3-1 – Easily beat a poor Blackburn side
Wolves (A) 1-2 – Very lucky to win (wouldve been lucky to draw)
Spurs (H) 2-2 – Held our own but slightly fortuitous
Wigan (H) 1-0 – Poor performance lucky to win
Stoke (A) 1-3 – Great showing against poor Stoke team
Everton (H) 2-1 – Very hard to watch at times
Man City (A) 3-1 – Outclassed but gave a good account
Man Utd (A) 1-1 – Outclassed, hammered but held on
Chelsea (H) 0-3 – Matched Chelsea and unlucky to loose
Norwich (A) 4-2 – Tactically outwitted and outplayed
    Swansea (H) 0-0 – Very poor performance
West Brom (H) 2-3 – Terrible game and again tactically beaten
Bolton (A) 0-2 – Poor performance, good win
    Liverpool (A) 3-1 – Shocking again
Man Utd (H) 3-0 – Outplayed Man Utd for 90 minutes
    QPR (H) 1-0 – Lucky to win
Fulham (A) 2-5 – Great first half, embarrising second
    Blackburn (A) 0-2 – Should’ve been stuffed
Villa (H) 2-1 – Should have been 3-0 first half, lucky to win
    Spurs (A) 5-0 – Shocking, terrible, horrible”

AB SOULTE BRILLIANT post I was going to write this this has to open a bit of eyes to the so called critics of the “negative” fans..

if anybody can argue those descriptions of the games is …well….

    A LIAR….

    Also to add….

games like Chealsea and VIlla it was unfair in Pardews a defense we could have taken a result away from Chelksi if it wasn’t for the numerous posts, plus we dominated the game vs Villa.

The rest of the wins are HARDLY for his tactical genius or lack thereof more likely.

The fact that having a perfectly legal and on the money critique is coming to question here is funny as hell, those fans ONLY argument is we are 6th or 7th or 5th atmo.

We will wait and see where we will finish end year mates.
There are games where we should have taken the opposition by the scruff of the neck and didn’t FULHAM for one…. they came back and took us apart they where truly WOEFUL first half we let it slip.

Sorry to burst your bubble that is a TACTICAL blinder of an error. etc etc etc

AAaaaaaalllll of wich I dont even mind so much as to the utter spitefullnes and stubborness of our manager when it comes to who to play on what position and when.

why cant we see us play for example vs a Wolves side like this

    ——————–KRUL———————–
    SANTON —- WILLO——COLO—–R.TAYLOR
    ———- CABAYE–TIOTE–GUTHRIE————
    HBA——————-CISSE———————BA

Santon to cover HBA with Cabaye, tight midfield to boss, Ba on the wing cause he is quick and played wider in Germany knows what it is about….?

romain amalfitano. french 21 year old played for stade de remis in french 2nd division in Newcastle for medical today

Did anyone watch MOTD2 last night and Phil Nevilles frank and honest assesment of his own form at the beggining of the season and how he ‘deserved to be dropped?’

I really think that Gorgonzola has hit the nail on the head and that Simmo should be dropped in place of Raylor.

He has been and aways has been poor.

Gorgonzola sir, that is a great team, and one that can play (and wait for it because this is the name of the sport we love) football

  • 4 ilovetoon8788 // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:06 PM

I think it was beattie25 who posted that? Absolutely brilliant post and sums up our season. There are certain games which I can’t believe we didn’t get trounced but got all 3 points. Villa and Blackburn recently especially.

  • 5 pedro // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:07 PM

I would love to see us play that side and I agree that Simpson could do with a spell on the bench. I’m hoping that recent line ups have been hugely influenced by the absence of Tiote and Cabaye

  • 6 Ameobi No.9 // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:09 PM

gorgonzola, I think your descriptions of the games are a little on the negger side of things, but for the most part I agree with you.

on the whole, bashing Pardew on his tactical decisions like formations and what not. Have you seen the table lately, it obviously doing some good for us. Yes, Pardew chooses the tactics but it is up to the players on the day to carry them through and days like Fulham 2-5, we became complacent, we thought they were done for and switched off, that to me seems more like the players fault than Pardew’s?

  • 7 ilovetoon8788 // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:12 PM

    @ameobi no. 9

The defeat at Fulham has nothing to do with players switching off. It was Pardew decision to play the high line and his stubbornness and not changing it. Santon yellow card before halftime was already his reminder.

  • 8 gorgonzola // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:12 PM

” that to me seems more like the players fault than Pardew’s”

Not really he has interaction with players he is on teh field and half time we where doing good…it was players fault but he messed up for me too…

  • 9 Ameobi No.9 // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:13 PM

Pedro, if Simpson needs a spell on the bench, so does Cisse, apart from his goal he has looked as useful as Ameobi on half a bottle of ‘dreamy, sleepy, nighty, snoozy snooze’

So, everyone played fantastically, but we managed to drop 5 goals because Pardew did not change the high line…………………………………………….. wha??

Santon to cover HBA? Santon defensively is weak

  • 12 pedro // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:16 PM

Cisse needs a spell on the bench too?! Sorry I’m sure that’s what you just suggested Ameobi no 9. Are you actually Shola hoping that with Cisse on the bench you might get some more playing time!

Oh, well make sure you make it seem that way instead of dumping the blame of Pardew for something the players were more at fault for.. like i said, Pardew gives the tactics, but on the day it is up to the players to see them through and try their best

  • 14 gorgonzola // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:17 PM

    beattie 25

I was so relieved to see somebody post your sum of the games SPOT on like you cant believe…. I was thinking about it I was out for a while and its EXACTLY that sir well done….

It the sheer reality, NO we are not pathetic and no I don’t call for Pardews head, I wish he had some balls to admit certain things and change it around a bit and seriously bin players that don’t perform and not take it out on HBA….its pathetic and I am sick of it….

Players that are not doing well this season willsay it again, and seem to get very little repremand are

Willo(excluded we are missing the hero Saylor)
    Simmo
    Obertan
Simmo ( yes he had goal line clearances but his decision mankind on the ball is so panicky its doing my balls in)
    Perch (—-)
Ameobi ( I think Pardew has a thing for his wag or something)

  • 15 Ameobi No.9 // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:19 PM

Quite right Pedro.. just think had I (Ameobi) scored that goal and played the way Cisse has, I (Ameobi) would still get lots of hate from numpty ‘sheep’ football fans like you for being a lazy tw@t..

“Santon to cover HBA? Santon defensively is weak”

Mate he is the best LB/RB we have at the moment you have any other ideas? Xisco at RB/LB???????

  • 17 milk or cream // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:20 PM

if we are so called neggers, then the pro pardew crew are just blind worshipers,

cos if im not correct, us neggers want players like obertan, simpson, perch, willamson to not play when we have better players available,

HBA should always be ahead of obertan on ability alone

simpson, right now and for most of last season he has shown time and time again he isnt good enough, ferguson came in for jose lst year and did amazing, santon should be right back and ferg should be left back,

perch is a desaster, abeid should play and learn the game, he has more ability, pardew eevn said he would cover while tiote was away, how did perch get in befor him???

willamson, is just to slow, and right now we dont have cover, so he should play, but the whole of jan when they could have got someone in they didnt :(

and one last point, for all you pro pardew fans that say look at the table, we do look at the table, we really see how close we are, we really see that if pardew was just a little bit more brave, we could really get 4th place, chelsea liverpool and ars are having a mare of a season, it wont happen every year, go for it, fortune favours the brave

  • 20 WWJBD // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:22 PM

    gorgonzola
Off the top of my head double up with hard working wingers taking large amounts of pressure off our full backs

ie Raylor on the right and Gutti on the left covering both Simmo and Santon

    13Ameobi No.9 // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:17 PM

come on man, i would believe what you say if it happend a few times, but more often than not, we play poorly, so if the players arnt following pardews plans, he should drop them, after all there making him look bad,

to me there following his advice to the letter, and thats why there picked, HBA is a bit different, pardew carnt control him, thats why he wont be picked

  • 22 pedro // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:24 PM

The difference being that Cisse gave a lot more against Villa (and scored) and then his only other game was a terrible team performance where we barely had the ball. I’ve never given Ameobi “lots of hate” but my point regarding Simpson is he has put in some poor performances and we have players who could cover his position. I’m not a “sheep” football fan but I do think competition for places and therefore spending some time on the bench is not a bad thing

  • 23 gorgonzola // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:24 PM

so your perfect attackign side against wolves

    is

“ie Raylor on the right and Gutti on the left covering both Simmo and Santon”

    Raylor RM Gutti LM?

I think you didnt interpret my formation at all…CM tighter diamond. BA wing HBA wing I think is a bit more potent than Raylor RM and Gutti LM ….

  • 25 gorgonzola // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:27 PM

Best game to give HBA a chance to shine is Wolves Home…. I want to see how the HBA haters will come up to argue this one…

  • 26 Ameobi No.9 // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:28 PM

No Pedro, the difference being, if we bought Messi, and he did a Micheal Owen, you WOULD complain that we are playing Ameobi and you WOULD bitch on this blog about it. but dont worry, there are at least 7 bloggers on here that do that already and if anyone disagrees with them, the whole blog turn against them..

  • 27 gorgonzola // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:31 PM

    Anyhow

will be interesting what happens remainder of the season…. How Pardew will react, how HBA issue gets resolved hope its not a Tevez type resolution as it just might be.

Next transfer window will be ow so crucial for us I want to see who we will unload and where the board think we are weakest…

  • 28 Ameobi No.9 // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:31 PM

  • 30 WWJBD // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:33 PM

    gorgonzola
Yes playing 2 strikers and a want to be withdrawn striker would be more attacking as they are primarily attacking players but that leaves our back door wide open

Also we will have Guthrie in ur team I assuming who always looks to get forward so again that pushes 4/5 (with Cabaye as well) pushing higher up the field leaving Tiote and our back 4 to defend but Santon is very often not at LB and rather pegs forward into a more LM/LW which drags our back 4 into a out of position back 3.

  • 31 pedro // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:33 PM

You obviously have some kind of obsession with Shola as you dont seem to actually read comments but have a pre written speech on the qualities of Ameobi and the “neggars” on this board. If you checked any of my previous comments (of which they aren’t that many) you would see that I’m not someone who complains constantly. I don’t quite understand how suggesting Simpson’s performances have been below par has angered you so

catchy in norway went on about obertan, and he has been prooved right,

there are players that anrt the best footballers but at least put 100% in, and then you have players like obertan, who do not create or defend

player like ryan taylor, who should be playing at right back cos he is the better option, he isnt great, but he offers mor than simpson,

you play your best 11 always, but pardew dont do that, he is trying to prove that he is right about obertan,

  • 35 ilovetoon8788 // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:39 PM

Simpson is often well positioned and has a good turn of pace is also very good at getting back to cover goal if he is ever caught out. Plus when given the chance can stick some very decent crosses into the box

  • 39 dn1892 // Feb 13, 2012 at 2:47 PM

I cant believe how much stick pardew gets on here. Yes playing such a high line is madness but apart from that i dont think hes done a lot wrong.

I think we should just clone Hatem Ben Arfa and fill the entire Newcastle staff with Ben Arfa clones because he of course is the answer to all our problems. Alan Pardew is destroying this once proud football club because he wont play Ben Arfa even though he never passes, never tracks back, and is a luxury player that has to be carried by the reast of the team. Ben Arfa should be the manager, the chairman, every player including the youth team and reserves, in fact why not just rename the club Hatem Ben Arfa F.C..

Serious comment this time, I do think Ben Arfa is very technically gifted but we can’t just play him blindly and although I would like to see him do well when he has played he has not been that great. The fans moaning at Pardew though just remind me of all the England fans that complain when we don’t win every single match and don’t get to at least the semi-finals of every single tournement. We can’t always be the best team, maybe we should be happy that we are at least one of the best and have at least some chance of winning something. That goes for Newcastle not just England.

  • 53 ToonDownSouth // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:08 PM

    WWJBD

Haha, that was harsh. I’ll cut back on the abuse.

Seriously though, so many of the comments make me think that a lot of the people here started supporting the club this year or something.

Simpson not premiership quality? Firstly, thats absolutely ridiculous. Secondly, it’s not entirely about a players raw talent. Personality, ability to follow tactics, workrate and determination are just as important – if not more.

Having said that, although I’m not one for rash comments, I would drop Simpson for Raylor if fit. And I would do the same to Jonas & Obertan, giving HBA & Ferguson a run out.

The players keep all talking about the “competition in the squad”, but I don’t see any really.

  • 54 Lynxie // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:11 PM

    team for Wolves (and why)
    Krul (first choice)
Perch (can not do worse than Simmo)
Collo (Spurs game was a blip)
    Willo (no one else available)
    Santon (See Collo)
Raylor (work rate good crosser, and defensive quality)
    Tiote (Obviously)
    Cabaye (See above)
    Jonas (work rate, defensive cover)
    Ba (no brainer)

Pleased where we are in the league and pleased with the squad we are building, unhappy with the football we have recently played, apologise to those on the forum who think pardew can do no wrong and is above criticism, we have carried some luck this season for sure,

I see it as Pardews Strengths – Team Spirit, making Average players better, and workrate, his weaknesses are too infatuated with average players and forgetting football is sometimes about talent and not workrate, See Ginola, Solano, Ben Arfa, Maradona, Messi, Hagi, etc etc etc. If people keep going on about Ben Arfa giving the ball away, they have not watched the games i have and have just repeated Pardews stupid mind games on Benny IMO.

Can’t believe ppl r havin a go at pardew were a point off champions league place n were half way through feb it’s joke wtf do ppl want, what’s up r the all neggers upset bcoz there prediction of tiote, krul n colo being sold in jan window didn’t happen or is it the fact that were not in a relegation battle like they predicted, we win 7/8 of our 13 games left we get European football

  • 57 VanToonMan // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:13 PM

I can’t believe what so many of you are saying about Pardew and our team this season. IF and i know it’s a big IF….but if we do finish 4th at the end of this season…will you guys complain about the style of play with champions league football to look forward to?

Mourinho plays a similar style of football to us….would you guys complain if he came and managed Newcastle?

The fact is, given our financial status and the point that we were relegated a few years ago…we are a club in transition…building a new young team. We are doing much better than what we should be given that we are in transition. And the better players that come in the future, the better our style of football will become.

People who do not acknowledge what a huge miss steven taylor, tiote and cabaye are are honestly stupid. Much of the style of football you play is dependent on the players you have at your disposal.

It’s a miracle that we are where we are having lost tiote since jan 4th and cabaye since the ban.

All of you remember this….the league DOESN’T LIE…if we are a top 6 team at the end of the season then there should be no complaints.

    Haha thats better

Yeah I sometimes get that feeling as well but I dont know some have watched NUFC longer than I have been alive yet seem to think we are worthy of 4th in the league and it upsets them that we wont get it….that to me is insane considering the wider picture but I am no expert and dont pretend to be. I am just happy to have some stability, a decent level of football all season and a squad who are driving forward/building something :)

See I wouldnt drop Simmo but I would of kept Tav and told Simmo that kid could take ur spot if u have a bad game. Simpson was very good early season when Santon was on the bench waiting for a chance.

Jonas is pretty much undroppable for me but when he gets tired 70-80minutes gone I’d have Fergy coming on in his place. Obertan I would have on the bench with Raylor our starting RM

Why are people infatuated with playing our wide midfielders based on defensive ability it blows my mind, Pardew has brainwashed so many people, do we want to go into a match thinking Defend or thinking attack, we have 2 DCM in Tiote and Cabaye, we dont need Defensive wide men, let the defenders defend and the wide men create (ala Bale and Lennon)

  • 61 Lynxie // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:18 PM

Mourinho plays a similar style to newcastle? Are you on magic mushrooms or something? Since when did Real Madrid hump the ball hopefully up to thier two top strikers? I suggest you get your X box serviced junior.

Seriously, Simmo needs to feel the axe on his neck as he has stopped doing the basics, and is taking his position for granted. Surely perch could do no worse?

If all goes to plan, we shouldnt need any more attackers. Ba and Cisse are more than enough fire power, IF we can get the ball to them…… Playing on the edge of our own box is not part of the script, and for that reason we need 4 grafters (who can play a bit) across the middle.

Is it so hard for u to understand their are different schools of thought in regards to footballing tactics? We have done all out attack for a long time and have won……f all. Maybe thats a sign we should be looking to build our defence up first then work on our attack play

This is Rednapps 4th year in charge of Spurs and they look fantastic because he has been given time and money to build a team

  • 70 Lynxie // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:23 PM

Aye that would work. Fergie and Santon switch would work for me.

  • 71 VanToonMan // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:23 PM

Lynxie….Mourinho is widely known to play a very negative style of football at any team he goes to. That was how he was at Chelsea and Inter Milan and it is the reason why he has fallen out with the whole of the Real Madrid dressing room and will be leaving in the summer. Nevertheless they are sitting pretty at the TOP of la liga 10 points clear of Barcelona.

I remember you being the person who mocked my suggestion of Obertan as a second striker due to his pace and good finishing as opposed to his inability to know when to cross and deliver a good cross. Funnily enough the next day he came on against blackburn sprinted right past 2 defenders and slotted it home.

Once again answer the simple question….IF we finish 4this season are you gonna keep your mouth shut because you will be looking forward to champions league football….or are you still gonna complain?

  • 72 Dannyo // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:24 PM

If ur dead cert on dropping Simmo then only option would be Raylor imo but I dont think he would be in anyway better than Danny in the position

  • 75 Cabaye04 // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:28 PM

y cant people see that we dont have any good wingers. they cant cross and they always have to help our wingbacks all the time so whats the point. so why dont we just play a 41212 formation which would take advantage of things we do have, a good midfield.

  • 76 Lynxie // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:28 PM

Real Madrid: Direct football. I have heard everything now. What a muppet.

Do yourself a favour and google Sam Allardyce. If you look up direct football in the dictionary, there is a photograph of Sam Allardyce in an empty stadium.
    Direct football.
Your brain quite clearly has no idea what your fingers are doing.

  • 77 VanToonMan // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:30 PM

    @Toon Down South post 64

Sorry man I forgot we have the players as good as Real Madrid to play such a more free-flowing and less direct style. I mean Jonas ‘I’m running on stilts’ Gutierrez is just as good as Ozil and Ronaldo…and Danny Guthrie is like another Xabi Alonso….what the hell is Pardew playing at adopting a more direct style of play…..

I was the same afetr the very same bullet header, but fair play to the lad, he has put a couple of shifts in lately, I am secretly hoping that he has become a player afetr all this time. To be fair, I was at White hart Lane last year, and Perch played at left back, and he did OK, certainly not ripped to shreds like our Brazillian clumsywit the other night. Hope springs eternal, I simply think Simmo will benefit from a little bench time.

Not going to lie recently I have considered just giving up on this blog all together because of that reason. I dont mind debatings opinions but some refuse to listen and continue to sound off.

And the amount battles I have had in recent weeks just wound me up and its not worth it BUT for some stupid reason I am still here fighting the good fight haha how long I can be bothered to do so however remains to be seen

  • 84 Lynxie // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:34 PM

I have not mentioned HBA, simply that we need to be more compact against Wolves, and for my opinion, a change at full back. from where I see it, the midfield is gonna be 500% better than last two games, but we are still vulnerable in defence. the usual suspects every week. No witch hunt, just improvement needed. if HBA is not playing, there must be a reason, similarly if Shola plays every week, there must be a reason. If kadar does not play, ther must be a reason. I am all on the song sheet with that. But tell me that Simpson has been playing well? Not buying that for a second, he needs dropped.

  • 85 WWJBD // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:37 PM

    Lynxie
Mate I cant disagree Perch has proven something to me this season and the amount of stick I used to give him (and it was a high level haha) I would like to take back.

But at RB he was just horrible bless him haha. I also agree Simmo needs a boot up his backside but to bench him imo would weaken our defence. Lets not forget he Jonas and Krul have been the only ever presents in our team this season both deserve credit for that but Jonas and Simmo have dropped off as they is a serve lack of real competition for their places.

Jonas is undroppable for me and no one is trying to make a case that my opinion should be changed. Simmo just has no one going for his spot and I think he is the type of player who needs that in order for him to continue to fully focus

  • 86 Dannyo // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:38 PM

U explain my feelings at the same time there mate.
Spuggy puts it well when he says that allot of these aren’t stating facts or giving thought through oppionions, some are simply based on witch hunt.
Allot of these posters are reoccuring posters, who seems to know well just cause they’ve won the CL in Football Manager.

If there’s a good opinion, like on say wingers, fullbacks, HBA, transfers, tactics, subs, then do please share them, and some will agree and some won’t. Just make it an objective view point, don’t spout crap about Gabby just cause u don’t like the shape of his head.

And yes, it all becomes a big wind up, u get annoyed and sometimes angry about it, so in the end, what’s the point indeed…

  • 87 Lynxie // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:39 PM

    Van Toon Man:
there is a huge difference between playing negative football, and being under the cosh. we have not played negative football, we have been outpassed and out played. Mourinho’s teams keep the ball (and at Chelsea) bored their way to the title. I would personally settle for negative football and possibly being difficult to beat, rather than living on lady luck, but thats just me.

  • 88 VanToonMan // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:39 PM

Simpson gets dropped and Santon moves to right-back who playes at left-back?? Ferguson is a left-winger not a left back….he doesn’t look strong enough defensively to be a solid left-back least not yet.

Pardew has done well with the finances he has available and the squad he has available. Fact is Collo and S.Taylor are solid….and Santon is potential…..that’s it. Rest of our defensive options are not great….so until summer comes….we have to play this style of football with our wingers being very defensive and covering our fullbacks until we have the players available to play the style of football so many of you here seem to be craving.

  • 89 ToonDownSouth // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:42 PM

    VanToonMan

    I was being serious…. Wow.

  • 90 Lynxie // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:42 PM

    WWJBD:
re Simmo and motivation. Yeah, you might be right, some players thrive on the confidence of being first choice. It seems to me that if he is following managers tactics or orders, questions need to be asked, as his thundering forward and delegating defensive duties to obertan is plain lunacy, and I can not see that Pardew advocates that. Until we get sorted out, he needs to concentrate on defending, and only that.

  • 91 WWJBD // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:43 PM

Fergy is a bit of a wild card, looked good last season (huge fan of his dont get me wrong) but he is lightweight and by his own admition struggles to last a full 90 minutes and also is a LW I believe (and I think I read that he prefers to play LW but was happy to get into the team where ever he could last season)

So for FB we have Simmo and Santon who are naturals and Raylor/Perch who are makeshift at best then Fergy

Raylor offers us, for me, our best option for RM so dropping him back leaves us with Obertan and HBA who neither are really great for a full match in that position (again just my opinion)

  • 92 Cabaye04 // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:43 PM

    @Dannyo
yeah but at the moment our wingers arnt performing, i mean i would like to see thoses two on the wing sometime this season when Marveux is fit and everything. but when u have guthurie, cabaye and toite all fit u want to be playing them, thus meaning we cant have any winges with the 2 demba’s upfront aswell.
becasue as i stated in the last post we need to use what we have and thats our cm’s and not our wingers, so it’ll be better off if we use a 41212 formation cus i can see that working.

  • 93 ToonDownSouth // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:43 PM

    Lynxie

I haven’t missed a game this season, and I can tell you, Madrid play incredibly direct football.

He tells the players to get the ball from defense to attack as quickly as possible, and to worry about being pretty later.

Listen to any Spanish pundit or journalist and you’ll hear the same.

  • 94 Cabaye04 // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:46 PM

    krul
    simpson coloccini williamson santon
    tiote
    guthurie cabaye
    ben arfa
    cisse ba

  • 95 Dannyo // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:48 PM

    @Cabaye04
I think Guthrie is a good shout to test on the RW. Perhaps we could try it without the wingers when Tiote and Cabaye return, and have Cabaye LM, Tiote CM and Guthrie RM instead. Deffo worth a good punt, as we’ve tried that formation now, with mixed results.
The midfield would be be great passing the ball forward, all capable of throwing some tackles in there, Tiote being the big man ofc. Try to link them up through HBA maybe with Ba and Cisse up top. Hugely offensive and defensive at the same time.
It could be that Pardew tries that. Cause frankly, Jonas hasn’t been up to par for quite a while now.
They say Fergy has the best cross of the younger lads in training too.

  • 96 Lynxie // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:50 PM

TDS; not having seen a La Liga game this season (except El Classico), I can not argue, however, the direct approach seems to be working for them. what are they now twelve points clear or something? If its not broken………

For me, Direct football is not knocking it up to some of the most gifted footballers in the world, it is about hoofing it 90 yards in the hope that something might happen (a la Allardyce) I do not really assimilate the ethos of ‘direct’, to Real Madrid..? Perhaps, more accurate may be attack minded………….

  • 97 Dannyo // Feb 13, 2012 at 3:51 PM

    @WWJBD
I think AP counts Fergy as a FB, who can play LW if needed. He’s mentioned Fergy on atleast two accounts being a FB.
I saw the Tenerife interview with Fergy, and he’s working allot on bulking himself up for the PL.
Must say i’m excited for next year, AP has recently said that Vuckic, Abeid, Sammy, Fergy and Tav will feature regularly next season.
Still some cleaning up to do in our stable aswell tho.

I am currently enjoying this debate with Lynxie we both have reasoned and thought out points and its worth the effort to type haha

    Lynxie
Yeah ur right in what u say the tactic is a bit niave at times and our defence has taken a huge hit since Saylor got crocked (again) I dont know if their training has dropped off or what but we arent as drilled or commited recently.Maybe we got to settled or over confident I dont know

End of the day though this is a transition season for us. Whole new spine, new system and new tactics and I am willing to give a bit of slack because of that, Rome wasent built in a day (or in half a season ;))

  • 103 ToonDownSouth // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:00 PM

    Lynxie

It’s the reason Mourinho has been boo’d by fans lately, despite being 10 points ahead of Barca haha. Madness.

But yeah, the difference is that Madrid fire the ball up field for Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuin to win. Recently we have been doing it with Best & Shola. Not quite the same.

I have no problems with a direct approach personally – if it’s well executed, a la Madrid. But Krul, Colo and Simpson are all regularly guilty of playing either poor, or completely aimless, long balls up to nowhere.

We’ve seen Ba & Best absolutely dominating teams arially, but when the balls are pumped into absolutely nowhere there’s not much they can do :|

  • 104 VanToonMan // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:00 PM

As WWJBD said…exactly…we are in transition….let’s not expect to run before we can walk…we have already exceeded expectations majorly this season. Let’s stick to supporting Pardew and the plan that they are all involved in. As long as our defence is heavily invested in the summer, we should have no complaints.

HBA is an amazing talent however, as I’ve said before….without Tiote, Cabaye, Marveaux, we simply do not have the players around him to warrant his effectiveness. I also think we do not have a good enough defence at the moment to be able to justify HBA as a starter in the team when we are away from home. We need to be more solid as a team away from home to compensate for that.

I think HBA must start when we are playing at home and we have our top players like Tiote, Cabaye playing. Otherwise he has to be an impact-sub for now…until we hopefully invest in defence this summer

  • 106 Lynxie // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:03 PM

I would be aware of the left wing threat of Jarvis, but have a feeling that Pardew will stick with the same. Simpson at RB. It is to be hoped that Simmo puts in a DEFENSIVE performance, and does not take Jarvis lightly, this lad has real trickery and pace. I also hope that Simmo can feel the threat of the axe hovering, he needs to pull his socks up. A good win, and everyone can put saturdays mauling behind them. Hope and pray no injuries or suspensions for the unwashed game.

  • 107 Dannyo // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:06 PM

    @WWJBD
Hehe, he’s 19/20, but the lad looks 15-16, lol, he’s a babyface :) I think he’s a skinny guy to begin with just cause of his high metabolism. I know cause i was like that myself in my younger days :P
It’ll be hard for him to bulk up, cause he has to eat allot of protein and fat, and it’ll take a while for him. Simmo has some muscle on him tho, won’t expect Fergy to be “bigger” than that. But my word, some of the runs Fergy had against Tottenham, now THAT is blistering pace. So quick with his feet too, quicker than Obertan.

Jonas needs to understand that the young guns are pushing him for a starter, and should be benched for a game and let Fergy start it, just to give him that little wake up call. Or perhaps AP will put Jonas on the RW and Fergy on the left again against Wolves?

  • 115 Dannyo // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:16 PM

Obviously AP thinks Simmo is our best bet, and rightly so imo. They say Tav is just as good, meaning it’s strictly average just yet, if he’s as good as Simmo.
I can’t see Raylor there, cause he’d float up too high, and doesn’t have the pace to run up a winger. Atleast Simmo keeps up most of the time.
But u’re right otherwise, Pardew is Pardew, and he doesn’t read my posts… Why he doesn’t, i’ll never know…

Pardew has proven too often this season hs inability to change a game when he should have done ,IMO shows his lack of ” know how ” to take this club any further.- ok he has done really well to get us where we are, however when it comes to messing with the big boys, excluding man u – he is lost,by that I don’t just mean getting beat , but getting a good hiding.what I have noticed with Pards is that he puts 11 players on the pitch who he thinks can win the game, when the game is not going his way he is clueless at what to do.A manager gets paid , not for putting 11 players on the pitch who he thinks can win a game, everybody on this blog could do that, but for his awareness of the opposition strengths and changing his tactics accordingly. Mournino ,sir Alex, Harry R, are masters at it ,hence success .People say you can’t lay the blame at pardews door, they are wrong.he picks the players, the tactics, the formation, everything is his decision .When a team are not doing well, like any industry, the managers head is on the block – they get paid for making decisions .if it is proven too often he can’t make the correct ones, something has to change.Pardew has done well, however if we are looking at Europe, you only have to watch that shambles that took place on asaturday to realise that with this current squad and manager we have reached our peak .people can blame players or whoever they want ,but not buying in the window when we should have done was madness. Why did pardew think we were good enough we didn’t need to buy? Another bad decision ?

Hard to disagree. For Tav I haven’t seen much of him but he has earned rave reviews at the clubs he has been on loan at though the standard of football he was playing at wasen’t exactly comparable to PL. I was the dogs hind parts at CB/RB for a long time but the lads I was playing against werent exactly Drogba and Rooney haha

How long has Pardew been in charge and in ur opinion we have reached the top of where he can take us…..love to understand the logic there

And as for Europe Birmingham were in it this season

Transfers arent really down to Pardew surely u must understand that by now? Recommends who to buy but has very little power in whether they arrive at Newcastle or not

  • 126 ToonDownSouth // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:28 PM

    stuart no9

You genuinely think that not buying anyone was Pardew’s decision…? I really really really cannot see that being the case.

And he can’t take us any further? We’ve progressed further in 12 months than anyone could possibly have dreamed, and you genuinely want to get rid of the man after 1 full season?

Remember when we used to go through managers like toilett roll? That never really got us very far did it…

  • 127 WWJBD // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:29 PM

    @Cabaye04
Hehe, imo, he’s the best we’ve got atm. Some would argue that Tav is on par or better, but he’d need chance to adapt. A risk worth taking this season? I don’t think so tbh. Would love to see him play tho, no doubt about it. So i could judge for myself ;)

  • 130 VanToonMan // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:34 PM

With more stability and consistency we can potentially become the next Spurs in 1 or 2 seasons time. Parde and the owner needs more time for this project to really flourish.

  • 131 Beattie25 // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:35 PM

How can anyone compare the way real Madrid play to the way we play? Ha ha ha

It’s like comparing Crawley town to arsenal!

We are not asking for barca, real, man utd or man city here, just asking for a bit passing and a bit less long ball! We have the right players but not the right tactics

  • 132 Dannyo // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:36 PM

    @Stuart09
Reached his level, after a year and 2 months? So we go back to this instability crap we’ve had since SBR? No thanks.
Watch him bring us up in the top 5 again next year, then start talking.
U can’t say that unless u have a comparison of atleast two seasons. If we do worse next year, we’ll all know what needs to be done.

i know he’s the only good one we’ve got and that pisses me off even more cus if he doesnt perform in a game we have no one to replace him or challenge him for his spot. i mean at time yes he’s saved us, but if we get into europe then next season i hope we bring in some else cus i dont thinks he’s good enough.

  • 137 Dannyo // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:43 PM

    @TDS
Perhaps a bit harsh of me, it all depends where we are with players and whatnot. Point is, we should be looking to improve every year, and become a consistant atleast top 6 side. If we finish 4th by some miracle this year, and then 6th next, then no, he shouldn’t be sacked.
Again, perhaps a wrong choice of words by me.
I just want consistancy, and a high level of it.

  • 138 Dannyo // Feb 13, 2012 at 4:46 PM

    @Cabaye04
It seems we’re playing hardball on Simmos contract, and i think it’s cause we know he’ll be a squad player given we get in the right players.
I think AP is hard on him when asked about it in the media, as AP reckons we’d have no trouble replacing him.
There’s a reason why we won’t sort Simmos contract quicker, and i think Santon and Tav are those reasons.

pardrew has done a fantastic job..i find it baffling that anyone would say different. it was only last week he has been linked to england job because of the great job he’s done.

with him as manager, i have never seen the team so organised and disciplined. our back 4 has looked solid all season minus one or blips. losing s taylor was a huge loss as williamsons pace nd positioning is lacking.

pardrew has made some brave calls too in leaving out hba because of his lack of defense..this will improve the player and team in the long run

also he has shown that he is not afraid to play the younger lads in fergusion, vuckic, abeid…and given confidence to players like best, raylor, obertan, colo, s taylor, krul, guthrie
he’s also helped bed in players like santon, cissie nd ba

lets remember….pardrew has had 5 of his 7 best players sold from last yr like, enrique, barton, nolan, harper (loan), carrol….he’s had to rebuild a whole new team with colo, tiote nd co.

he truly has done a magnificent job

I think he looks lost when the camera goes on him when we are getting a tonking , which happens quite often these days.god knows what he keeps writing on his note pad all the game , but it doesn’t work. Can you remember a pardew comment last month-” I will not be asking mike for more money as I think he has spent enough”. Mmm really ? Well I think if everyone is talking ” Europe” I think he hasn’t ..if he hasnt got the balls to ask for more money , then so be it , he’s the one who gets the stick not ash ,or did he really think we were good enough we didn’t have to buy.?

All this talk about Pards not being able to take us further, maybe he cant but please get a grip,he hasn’t even had a full season, and it just so happens that the season he has started we’re a point off of fourth place come mid February, for all those calling for his head, don’t you think we’d become the countries laughing stock (again) if we sacked a manager whilst a point away from a champions league spot, and another point is the fact that MA signed him with that lenghty contract, they obviously get along with each other,Pards is going nowhere in a hurry, like him or not at least wait till were not doing well before sharpening the knives.

LOOK u have judged him on just over a year, Half of which he inherited a difficult and angered squad and the other during a transitition period

Surely its widely accepted what Pards says in the media and what is going on is often two different things, he is a company man after all. He probably has very little say on money issues so him asking for more money is pointless but he has to infuse his squad with confidence surely and coming out saying ‘man we are crap I wish I’d bought a whole new starting 11 as the ones I currently have are utter sh**e’ isnt exactly going to help that is it?

I think Ash got rid of CH for a few reasons and how our squad were doing isnt highest on that list. Must ask though how do managers get international experience?

Why the concerted negative comments on Simpson? He’s saved us a good 6-8 points with goal-line clearances, he has definitely improved, obviously cares. Is he the best? No. Is he the best we have there? Yes. We’ve tried both the Taylors there and their blunders and lack of pace ‘led’ us to the championship. He’s even learning to cross the ball (for the ‘cross fans’ ), two assists. I don’t get it. He’s young and improving. Now, it’s Willo too, next will be Colo.

we have a squad of players, it is a small squad, granted, but we have some of the very best players in the prem right now, and i feel because of pardews stubourness with regards players even you lot know arnt good enough, he is costing us points,

if there was a vote for your team , the one you would pick if you where the boss, i can bet you all

    obertan wouldnt get a game

simpson would be on the bench

williamson would not get a game

and perch would not even be in the squad,

i believe iv read on this very site, by some of you pro pardew fans, why he dont give kids a chance

are you pro pardew fans telling me you have watched all the games and thought wow, pardew got it right there, you have never once thought, wow we where lucky there, cos even pardew has said to many times for my liking that we were lucky there,

that saying a good team can play badly and win, but them teams have rare bad days, we seem to have a bad game most weeks and win, this luck will only last so long

    this is from beatie 25

    very valid points

    Beattie25 // Feb 13, 2012 at 12:49 PM

For a long time now the club has been split into 2 sets of fans.

Those that live the dream that one day we can become a force again and be back were we belong, fighting at the top end of the table, and until that day arrives they will moan and complain but never give up. Some are cautios reminding us where we were 2 years ago, others over zealous and want Champions Leauge now.

The other fans are the realists, the ones that see the facts and figures behind NUFC. They always say the players werent/arent good enough, the manager is tactically attrociuos and problem after problem is listed.

For many years I was in the first group, thinking positively (even in relegation) but on Saturday I finally broke and every day I am breaking more with every ‘silver lining’ thrown at us by Pardew.

Was I proud of the players after the second half? NO!!! If anything I was more furios that they just give up and as a fellow fan put it ‘Tottenham took their foot of the pedal’.

I am now a realist. Thosethat say ‘we are in 6th’ well thats where we belong. The other good I hear is ‘Do you want us to play like Barcelona?’ Well yeah obviously we do!!! I know we cannot not but I refuse to accept with the quality we have we should be playing like Stoke every fcuking game. HOOOOOFFFFF.

This season has not been good. I would challenge any fan on here to say that at the end of the season I would rather finish 12th again and have played glorious, attractive, attacking football like Swansea than finish 8th, 9th or 10th and played the shit we pay to see every week.

Here are the PL results this year:

    Spurs (A) 5-0 – Shocking, terrible, horrible

This shows you the awful football we have had to watch. A string of lucky wins and hard fought draws that have our manager ‘proud!’. I for one am not proud anymore. I am sick of the terrible football we are watching and having to stomach.

wow there is a huge dived in opinion on pardew,

on one side it seems we have the follow nufc of a blind cliff because we are fifth

then, and this is the ironic part, we have the realist like myself who actually can see the guy we have is no more than a yes man and a total pupet, who along with ashley and lamb ass has lied to us so many times,

i wll always be black and white, but there have been managers that i have hated
kenny dogleash, he killed keegans team, the season he took over finshed 2nd, then set about selling our better players, in the same week he sold ginola for 2,5 million, cos he was past it, then bought des hamilton for 2,5 million, ginola went on to be player of the year, why??? cos the spurs manager let the guy play football

then there was ruud, his problem wasnt the football, his was a personel problem with shearer and rob lee, he had to go, the team comes first,

then we had SBR, who all he really did with the team is let them play, attacking football, RIP great man, he got sacked cos we had to many wanabe gangstars who let him down

glen roeder , just wasnt good enough, not a bad man, played the kids, but had big shoes to fill

then there was fat sam, omg, the guy killed the game of football,

keegan came back, it wasnt like before, he was being undermimd all the time

lets forget about the reason we got relegated, JFK, what a joke

CH came in and settled things down, got us back at the first attempt, was honest as the day is long, bought some crap players, simpson best willamson, but he was never a manager who i really thought could take us to that next level,

then we IMO have brought in a clown, alan pardew, his biggest problem is he is stuburn beyond beliefe , i hear all you pro pardew fans saying look at the table we are 6th, but i prefer to watch the football and get my opinion from there, for all you pro pardew fans, id like for you to tell me 5 games this season that we have been the better team and gone onto win,

i just read a comment about pearch and the blackburn game, that he changed the game, i bet if you watch the game again you would see there was no change, we where winning 1-0 but getting over ran, he comes on we still get over ran, blackburn created so many chances, but have shit forwards,(yak wasnt playing) then obertan sprints up the other end when they where pushing to get a point and scores,
the result like so many this season gets put on a table for us to see but the performance gets forgot about, and that my friends has happend to many times this season,,

if you talk about tactics , ok im not a prem manager, or any kind of football manager, but i know that the 2 best footballing teams in our league this year are man c and spurs, we just got exposed a few games ago by fulham, play against pace and we carnt deal with that, so what does pardew do, plays a high line, with the weakest mid field we could have played,

he has a strong reluctance to play HBA, and there is no one on earth can tell me that obertan should get a starting place ahead of him, cos when you go like for llike with them 2, HBA offers more in attack than obertan, not only does he offer that , but he brings the crowd alive,

he has a strong reluctance to play the kids,, when some of them are trully tallented, and will only get better if he let them play, are you telling me perch is a better player than abeid, cos from everything i heard of the usa tour, he was our star player

We have done well to get in the position we are in and we would all have taken it at the start of the season, so the manager deserves some credit for this as well as the team.

There are still however some frustrations regarding the season.

    1) we were told at the start of the season we would be playing 100 mph, neat, fancy passing football from Pardew. We havent seen that at all and although the results have been good, the performances have been slightly boring and lucky in a lot of games.

    2) pardew after a defeat is very annoying, he nearly always seems to think we were ‘doing ok’ or ‘on top of the game’ when in fact the majority of the time we havent been and that is probably why a lot of people moan that he isnt tactically very good as he doesnt seem to spot where we are going wrong and just says we were playing well.

    3) We all have our opinions on who should and shouldnt play but Pardew seems to have his players he wont drop no matter how poor they have performed recently (Simpson, Gutierrez to name two) and then there are players who the majority of the fans want to see given a chance as others arent performing (Ben Arfa, Ferguson to name two) but they dont seem to.

    4) we have known all season we are short of a defender, Pardew said going in to January he wanted one, we still havent got him and we are conceding goals for fun. Also has something to do with a crazy high line we keep playing, even with a slow defence who cant keep in a straight line so it looks terrible.

Im delighted with where we are in the league and at the end of the day there are frustrating things about supporting any club so these are ours and i will still be supporting them every week.

Milk or cream @166 My thoughts exactly. You have just summed up NUFC over the past 15 – 20 years. Fans do not want to believe pardew is not good enough as there are few options available to take his place , unless you pay for a qualified one and we know ash won’t do that. By qualified I mean someone who can take us to Europe .

i would love for one of you to give a good reason other than look at the table, id take just one,,

even with this small squad, he has some of the very best players in the league, i would love for him to do what he said we would do in the summer,, and that was play football with the ball players we have got,

he says one thing and then always does the oposit whether that be about buying a defender in jan, spending the AC money, he never sticks to his word, so why should anyone trust him????

all i want is one good reason, surly its not that hard for you

In the last 20 years we had KK and SBR for 10 of them mate and they clearly were good enough to get us into Europe from then on we have got through managers like they are meaningless so surely most fans did agree they werent up to the job and neither was their 10 or so replacements

Since 1992 we have had 18 managers according to wiki and considering 2 of those were in charge for 5 years a pop thats 10 years thats 16 in 10 years and 6 of those were intrim so thats 10 real managers in 10 years.

But some genuinely are lol – that’s the issue.

Nothing wrong with criticising the guy, he’s made mistakes and he has faults. Every manager does.

I do think that he’s often a bit too scared of losing – for instance I’d have dropped Jonas & Simpson, if only for 1 game, to give them a kick up the arse.

But can you imagine what an absolute joke the club would become if we sacked our manager when 1 point off the Champions League spots? Personally I’d be delighted with 7th, and that’s where I think we’ll finish.

  • 194 gorgonzola // Feb 13, 2012 at 6:42 PM

“I do think that he’s often a bit too scared of losing – for instance I’d have dropped Jonas & Simpson, if only for 1 game, to give them a kick up the arse.”

Thats exactly what wont happen unfortunately and that is infuriating with him….

However sacking him would be short of INSANE right this minute, cause I dont think anybody can :

    1. Handle Ash
    2. Start from scratch again
    3. Doesnt cost an arm and a leg

My point is we finally have a squad and manager in the papers winning footballing plaudits again from experts and opposition fans alike. U want a true representation of what people see us as go to a opponents blog/fanpage and read a bit about what they are saying about us. We have earned some repsect this season and we are in 6th on merit, sign of a good team is they win while playing badly isnt that the old saying?

So why the hell shouldnt we bask in what our paper thin, cheap and chips built on heart squad has done this season?

  • 197 ToonDownSouth // Feb 13, 2012 at 6:48 PM

I don’t think he’s making a scapegoat out of him. But you’ve got to remember that the press constantly ask him probing questions, because they’re looking for controversy.

I think he’ll play against Wolves anyway. There’s 3 or 4 players that need to be shown that they’re not undroppable.

Cheik the toaste @60 u finally said it. Finally someone said what i’ve been thinking. Both of our cm are defensive, can we not let our wide men attack pardwe basically start 2fbs each side with fb a little highr up (guti on left raylor on right) allowed go forward (a bit) when the chance arrives. Not a neggar and like wat pards has done and hate to read the ppl on here slating his “tactical ineptness” but i just dont think he has enough faith in our team. We basically have 6men defending without our wingers give our wingers responsibility of creating chances start HBA and tell them to help out WHEN NEEDED. 2 class strikers who teams will be afraid of so lets use that give them wide men with license to create and just extra fbs!!

    i think your so wrong,,

id like to think that we played football and were there on merit not blind luck, you can not build solid foundations on luck alone,

we have a good enough squad to be putting teams like brighton wolves qpr bolton blackburn to the sword, but its been poor tactics and luck we have relied on, now that dont look good for next year does it,

iv said it before tonight, this season is a great one because of our luck and that liverpool ars and chelsea are not having good seasons, and them 3 teams would love to have 5 or 6 of our players

Enuf wid the negativity,we’ve got 4 1st teamers out & unfortunately didnt buy central defenders as cover 4(in my mind)dodgy williamson. So 4me defeat v spurs was inevitable, sadly i may add.HWTL SUPPORT UR TEAM STOP WINGEING

  • 224 William McGahey // Feb 13, 2012 at 8:17 PM

There’s no doubt we should attack Wolves in the next game. A straight 4-4-2 with some changes- Raylor for Simpson- Simpson has made some great clearances and has been a decent performer but recently he has just been poor, does not provide a great attacking threat and sometimes, especially in last few games, forgets the basics. My defence would be: Raylor-Colo-Wilo-Santon.

In midfield I would have: Ben Arfa-Cabaye-Tiote-Jonas, Obertan was poor the other day and although Arfa doesnt track back often enough I am hoping that he’ll graft his arse off to keep his place and Wolves dont have a great attacking threat anyway, Jarvis is dangerous but can be easily handled. Cabaye & Tiote are logical and I believe their first choice midfielders-O’Hara & Henry- are both injured so we should dominate the midfield. Up front Ba & Cisse, they we’re both ineffective v Spurs but they had no service and tbh they were just too isolated and spurs to good. However Wolves aren’t as good obviously and are not tight in defence so hopefully they’ll have a field day.

Ben Arfa will have the invention to terrify their full backs, Jonas will cover back and graft for us, Tiote & Cabaye will dominate the centre and fantastically we have the choice to pass into Ba & Cisse OR we have Raylor to deliver crosses and set pieces.

Though Wolves have sacked Mick McMackem and may have ‘new manager syndrome’ they are not a good team and seem like a club in turmoil anyway. They are too negative and dont play with pace, which we struggle with, we are better in every position and should win comfortably, I’m going for 3-0. They are coming back off a horrible derby loss and as they has been so much change their today they won’t be as fired up from that due to the changes, however you could see Pardiola was visibly angry the other day and will have us fired up defintely. 3-0, Cisse, Ba and Cabaye I am saying.

  • 225 Dondatta13 // Feb 13, 2012 at 8:43 PM

For me, imo, I would prefer HBA to get a start at HOME. He is pure class and I am sure would be most entertaining to the thousands of supporters who turn up at SJP.

I think he has been made to look poor when Best and Ameobi have been our front line because they offer little or no movement.

Now we have Cisse and Ba up front with their movement and Tiote back, mopping up midfield he should definitely a start…

I think for home games a 4312 or 433 formation and away has to be a 4231 version to keep it tight.

    Home
    ——————————–krul——————————–raylor—————willo———colo———santon/jonas
    ——————————-tiote————————————————cabaye——————guthrie————————————————hba——————————————————-cisse—————ba———————-

i think this formation would give us plenty possesion but the two front men would have to run the channels or maybe stick hba up front and have two wide and a central player probs cisse for his finishing.

    away
    ——————————krul——————————— raylor————willo—————–colo———-santon
————————tiote———cabaye——————— ——–obertan———-hba or ba——–jonas—————————————-cisse/ba——————————- hba in for his runs or ba in for his hold up play.
obertan and jonas in for there pressing and counter attack runs.
i think next season santon will be a rb and we will sign a left footed lb as santon has to turn to cross with his right foot every time.

  • 228 magpiesi // Feb 13, 2012 at 9:38 PM

    4231 for away

——————————-krul———————————raylor———willo—————colo————–santon———————tiote———–cabaye——————————-obertan———-hba/ba—————jonas—————————————-cisse/ba———————————repost as formation above all over.

Stuart @ 120 . Thats complete tosh. Pardew has shown on plenty of occasions that he can change a game – 4-0 h/t v Arsenal bring back any memories? He has also gone from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 in certain games – eg QPR away. the reason we are not competing with the top dogs ( even though we hammered Man U and competed v Man City and drew with spurs and arsenal at home …..how fast u all forget ) ….is that their squads are better, and more expensively assempoled than ours. We are maximising what we have. I find it laughable that Floppy Chpos slags off City for buying the league, when Spurs are consistently one of the biggest spenders out there. redknapp is some pillock – but they would have beaten most european teams on saturday, not just a weakend Newcastle.
