Newcastle Interested In Top Zambia Striker

When Zambia won the African Cup of Nations in that amazing penalty shoot-out, after the scores had been tied at 0-0 through extra time, we thought there had to be some good players in their side.

Emmanuel Mayuka – wants to play in Premier League

That’s because we knew the Ivory Coast had top players from the Premier League, like Cheick Tiote, the Toure brothers – Yaya and Kolo, , Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Gervinho, so there had to be some played in the Zambia side.

And there is news today that Newcastle are interested in Zambia striker Emmanuel Mayuka.

Newcastle will bring in a new striker in the summer to augment their striker squad with Peter Lovenkrands and Nile Ranger likely to be leaving the club, and the 21 year-old seems to fit the bill.

He currently plays for Swiss club BSC Young Boys whom he joined in 2010 from Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv.

This is not the first time we have been linked with this player, but at the beginning of January the Newcastle Journal reported that he was not a target for Newcastle – at least in the January transfer window.

That’s probably because Newcastle at the time knew Papiss Cisse was available and were staring to make their move which resulted in Newcastle paying out £9M for the Senegal striker.

But it would seem that the 5′ 9″ tall Mayuka would fit in well at Newcastle, and he scored two goals for Zambia in the group stages and got the vital goal that beat Ghana and put Zambia into the finals of the African Cup of Nations.

Mayuka’s agent James Barrett told talkSPORT:

“There has been interest shown from Arsenal, Newcastle and Fulham. Emmanuel wants to play in the Premier League, which he feels is the best in the world, but there is more concrete interest from other European clubs.”

Newcastle could well be the club that goes after the 21 year-old, and he fits what Newcastle want at the moment, a young striker who can grow and challenge up front for a starting position.

But there are also a number of other clubs after him including other clubs on the continent, as his agent mentions.

This season he has played 27 times for BSC Young Boys and scored 14 goals with 4 assists, and he has played 34 times for Zambia with 10 goals.

Since joining Young Boys in July of 2010, he has made 72 total appearances and scored 23 goals with 13 assists.

What do you think?

I’d hazard a guess that all 3 premier league clubs have only had him watched by scouts and there is no offers! His agent is trying to drum up interest, both toon and Arsenal do transfer business quietly and privately and neither get involved in bidding wars!

Carroll is a poor player, I’ve seen him lots this season, poor touch, poor movement, seems a yard slower too! Reckon hel sign for a premier league West ham under allardyce in a season or 2 and become a Kevin Davies like player! 35M for him is amazing, puts MA and DL up there with Ronnie Biggs! The great toon robbery haha

Well worth it … if we have a load of cash to spend on acquiring new players in the summer.
However two pacey wingers who can beat their full backs and get behind the opposition defence and cross a ball with accuracy are much more important. Obertan doesn’t look as if he can do it, Jonas is all work and effort but with little end product and Ben Arfa looks as if he is out of favour.
We also need a quality right back to replace Simpson if he goes and a decent back up centre half for Saylor and Colo next season before we start talking about new strikers.
And that’s not forgetting a good new goalkeeper to understudy Tim as I don’t rate Elliott at all.
Just hope Ashley and Carr are ready to do some more good dealings in the close season as this squad needs an increase in not only quality but depth.

Agree with others – it would be madness to have three strickers who would all go off to the ACN next year. I would imagine we may have shown some interest before we signed Cisse. This is just an old story that his agent is trying to recycle.

Also I was away yesterday but reading the blogs I see the HBA debate re-opened with all out war between Beattie & Nightfall 🙂
I can see both sides of the arguement – he is an undoubted talent, it is just where to fit him into the team?
I was wondering maybe we could start off by playing him only in home games, say, on the right wing but for away games play Raylor instead who obviously gives more defensive cover. Bit of a cop out I know but I think it could work!

Ben Arfa deserves to play with a manager who is more ambitious and willing to take risk in terms of tactics. Most modern clubs prefers to play the 4-5-1 with a player sitting in the ‘hole.’

Pardew prefers the more steady and rigid 4-4-2 which has been shown to get results.

If HBA does leave in the summer it doesn’t mean he’s a poor player, he just doesn’t fit in the Pardew’s tactics. But what baffles me is, why buy him in the first place?

If HBA does join Spurs or Arsenal it would be mouth-watering to watch. He would rip our defence to shreds.

We need a striker who is not African so that when Dembas are away there we have somebody here eg. Jordan Rhodes, Luuk de Jong, Hugo Rodallega, Olivier Giroud + Wilfried Zaha, Victor Moses or Junior Hoilett would all be great aquisitions to the squad.

cause they bought pretty much all there is to buy in Seria A

do me a favor seriously, I watch Seria A pretty much like you follow EPL. There has been lots of divided opinion on what he is doing at Juve with the different style of play…

Elia and Krasic dont seem happy with the new “slow” system of play I would take any of them but If I had to choose Krasic…

HBA has contributed more in 5 games he played with 3 goals and 2 assists, then Obertan has throughout the entire season.

But we do not know what is going on behind the scenes? Maybe HBA has shown tantrum and Pardew finds it difficult to manage a player HBA?

I still think Perch is a good player in the centre midfield, and Raylor and Leon Best are very good professionals and are good squad players.

But if possible we should ship Ameobi and Obertan out of our club. But that is not going to happen. lol.

Fans are buying in the Pardewisms way to easily as they are swayed by the league position, wich to me means nothing as the season isn’t finished. Also with so many results wich easily could have gone against us would love to see their argument in supporting Pardew

something like ” well we are not getting relegated as everybody said we would”

Nothing worse than almost non critical BLIND faith. Cause they dont know the better.

I have nothing particularly against him but as they like to critique HBA I critique him…HBA isn’t a messiah but neither is Pardew you zealots….

I wouldn’t assume you know any more about football than me. That’s a pretty dumb assumption. All I said was that he clearly isn’t a ‘tool’.

I’m off anyway. Everytime you two come on here you just moan about HBA & Pardew, and don’t shut up when anyone posts a different opinion. Well done guys. Well done. Especially Indian.

We need HBA to play a more active role in the side but if not and he’s indeed sold we need a Hoilett, Zaha or Moses to come in as i believe those are the best options of replacements for the type of player HBA is (within our budget) however none of them could match his level. In my opinion HBA has got to start vs. Wolves as that could be a huge game for him to impress and gain some confidence as we need players like him in top form to pose an attacking threat vs. Liverpool & Chelsea/Arsenal if we aim for top 6/5.

Surely you can’t describe Carroll as a poor player having watched him for the Toon and build up a large band of supporters.

He is clearly struggling in a Liverpool side that is not set up to play to his strengths. If he ever came back to to the Toon then the style of play would need changing. But to be frank, I’m lost as to our style of play at this present time.

We started the season playing tidy football, one touch, triangles and retaining the ball. It seems to have disintegrated into mish mash of tactics.

We certainly aren’t being entertained with the fast exciting football that was promised by Pardew at the start of the season.

But, that is eased by our fantastic league position and results beyond all expectations.

    In all honesty:

“We need HBA to play a more active role”

it will never happen Pardew has shown his cards regarding the lad, he will have to change his game entierly just like Laurent Robert would have to play a winback role wich would NEVER EVER happen…

TO me Pardew fails to see the obvious. HBA is not R Taylor. and he never will be. He cant learn or wont learn how to use him therefore he wont be part of the squad simple as that, will be uses for the remainder of the season and then be shipped….

Pardews lack of tutoring and tactics and inability to use HBA end of… its not the first time its happened to us… Ginola, Solano, Bellamy…

yea and you are the ones who believe that we are suddenly going to roll over Wolves just because Cabaye and Tiote are back?

We are yet to dominate any team in the league. I’d say we would win but a scrappy win with hoofball tactics with Wolves dominating us as usual. You will enjoy those kind of football.
