Sullivan Spills Beans On Demba Ba – Agent Got £2M From Newcastle

One of the West Ham co-Chairmen David Sullivan,  is revealing the real deal on Demba Ba.

Demba Ba – agent got £2M from Newcastle

The former  Birmingham City co-owner is being interviewed at West Ham, and he is revealing how they got Demba Ba and then how they  lost him in the summer to Newcastle United.

This is some of what Sullivan has said regarding Demba Ba, his contract at Newcastle,  and how they couldn’t keep him at Upton Park:

“Demba Ba signed a three and a half year contract with us. We had a deal where his salary would be halved if we were relegated, and he said – “Well on that basis, I have got to be allowed to walk if we get relegated”.

“What we should have said in retrospect – but none of us thought he would score so many goals – is that we’d be happy to give him £40 grand a week in the Championship.”

“In the end I offered him £45 grand a week to stay but he wouldn’t take it. What we should have said was that if we don’t halve your salary, you haven’t got a get-out. The failure to put that one line in the contract cost us very, very dearly.”

“As I say, Ba was on £35 grand a week and I offered him £45 grand a week to stay, but he went to Newcastle. His agent got £2 million to take him to Newcastle.”

“I’m told he’s got a £7 million get-out at Newcastle and he gets half the money over that. They keep denying it but I think you’ll see in the summer he will leave Newcastle or he’ll get a monstrous rise to stay there.”

“If they get about four million, half will go to him, so if they sell him for £7 million they’ll only net about three because they paid his agent £2 million to get him out of here.”

” Getting £3 million is not bad, but for a player of his quality it’s not fantastic. It’s one of those mistakes that happen, but it’s probably one of the worst mistakes I have ever made in my life.”

“It just didn’t enter our heads. it didn’t enter anybody’s head that he’d score enough goals that we’d want to give him £40k a week and his old club £15/20k an appearance and we’d still be relegated. In reality that’s exactly what happened.”

“The agent just threw it in at the last minute. He said “Obviously if his salary is cut by 50% you’ve got to let him walk”. We thought, OK, if we get relegated, do we really want a £40k a week striker in the Championship?”

“Well, we would have because he was devastating. If he was with us now and his knee had held up, because remember, he did have a very very bad knee, I think we’d be 15 points clear, I really do.”

“He’d be cutting through those defences. You live and you learn.”

Not to rub it in, but Ba is cutting through those defenses in the Premier League, and Newcastle are currently one point out of 4th place with Ba having smashed in 16 goals – so far this season.

Derek LLambias had said last summer that these free transfers were not free, but it’s a surprise that Newcastle had to pay his agent as much as £2M.

We wonder how much the club will need to pay the agent if and they renegotiate the striker’s contract in the next few months?

But Newcastle need to do that if indeed Demba Ba will get half of what the transfer fee is, and if the release clause is indeed £7M,  hell get a huge £3.5M.

But the world was told the release clause was £7M by a certain Harry Redknapp in early January.    Harry had said during his tax evasion trial that he was not  good at business, and we agree with that.

And he also  shouldn’t expose everything he knows to those pals of his in the press, and how is it going to be if and when he becomes the England manager?

The sooner Newcastle negotiate a new contract with Ba the better it will be for Newcastle, and the 26 year-old has already said he really likes it on Tyneside, so that should help.

We hope.

In the interview Sullivan pours the blame onto former manager Avram Grant,  and he tries to make it absolutely clear the Israeli was the one responsible for West Ham being relegated, when they had so many good players in the squad.

David Sullivan and David Gold had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Of course not.

Alot of money for an agent but good money for Demba so it seems. Hope he get’s a new and different contract before the summer and I hope he wants to stay and score lots more goals for us in future years. If not then not alot we can do but take the money on offer!

First off, Sullivan is not very discreet, is he – I don’t think he’s beating himself up so much as fanning the Redknapp fire a bit more. What a stirrer. So the agent got 2 mil, And? So Demba might go for 7 so he can put half of that in his building society account – not likely. Ba is still a risk, so you’d have to wonder who’d have the guts to pay a hefty fee for him, He won’t go for 7 because Ashley won’t sell at that, so the bids would go up, and ashley would match the offer until the price gets carroll-esque, whcih it probably won’t because the scary knee factor will kick in well before then. So we may actually be stuck with Demba. And that’s what really sticks in Sullivan’s & Redknapps’ neck, and that’s why they keep making mischief, probably to unsettle the player or his agent.

why is he discussing ba’s contract with us ? is that allowed , we all know the rumors , but tobe disclosing details about his contract with newcastle like that is out of order , first pork chop arry and now this other cockney plonker , they all think they are dell boy ,club should look into taking legal action if possible

Well done Demba Ba. Rather the money to him than the chuckle brothers at West Ham.

He might have to work a bit harder to get that one over Ashley.

We should all be celebrating the fact that this bell end exchanged Ba for Nolan and gave us £4m as well. Best deal we’ve ever done (except £35m for AC). Talk about Flash ‘Arry being no good at business! Wonder how many Hammers are going to think Nolan is going to give value to them for next 3 complete seasons after this one. I bet he’s their Geremi by the end of next season!

“I’m told he’s got a £7 million get-out at Newcastle and he gets half the money over that.”

So if he goes for £15m we get £11m and Ba walks away with £4m, even I think thats not bad for a “free” transfer !

its not, but with strikers cost the most, 15 mil would be cheap for the quality he has, plus the fact that if he goes its 7 million, unless a bidding war starts

catchy, I wouldn’t worry about what Ba’s said, at the end of the day there’s little we can do. Whatever players or managers say the situation can change over night, even if a player claims their undying love for the club they play at it doesn’t mean a thing nowadays. Sad but true.

Ba represents value for money imo, and if we’re gonna keep him, he’ll need to get a pay rise. However, the rise will also have to represent value for money, so don’t be expecting £80K a week imo.
I’d rather split that in half and get two of Cisses calibre, than spend the whole bunch on one player with a knee that still could explode at any given moment.

Would be ironic and not beyond the realms of whatever if Ba has his best seasonwith us, gets sold for a lot of cash, we make a profit to spend elsewhere, and Ba ends up like Carroll. I like Demba, but he’s not the only striker, is he Papiss?

    something is not right,

Ashley Buys Ba, paying his agent 2 million, putting a buyout clause of 7 million half of which goes to BA, and a pay rise to boot.

    sorry does not addup

The way I see it, this was pretty much the plan all along. Ba comes in for the short term, we make a few million on him, and in Cisse we now have the striker we wanted.

Sure, it turns out Ba is worth far more than what we’d get, but stuff happens sometimes. I may be wrong, but that’s how the whole things looks.

Ba’s always been a bit of a mercenary, and he’s always spent his time fluttering his eyes at other clubs & forcing through moves. Luckily for us he’s worth the trouble at the moment.

TDS, maybe true yep. I like his attitude, I think he’s settled and he’s certainly got the fans on his side. If he moves then maybe the football wont be so good for him or he might not settle or get injured etc. His bank balance may get bigger and his agents but I get the impression he wants to play football. Maybe I’m a mile off the mark but only time will tell.

Atleast we seem to have two top strikers at the club now until atleast the summer 😉

When was the last time a player left Newcastle for greater things? They all seem to crumble, stagnate, or suffer awful injuries!

Honestly, I can’t remember the last player I looked back on wishing he still played for us.

Bellamy is the only one I can think of!

Enrique and Carroll are involved in a cup final next week, and our one place behind us in league. If they finish above us after 38 games, they would have went on to massively greater things.

Yeah you’re definitely right. I’d take him back in a heart beat. Same goes for Enrique. And maybe in a few years time, it will turn out to have been a good move for them both.

But on the whole, players who leave Newcastle go downhill from here!

Is warming the bench and being jeered by your fans really greater things?

As I just said, those two won’t be clear for a few years. I mean look at N’Zogbia – he jumped from a sinking ship and stayed in the PL, but now 3 years later he’s still fighting relegation with a different club!

Well yeah it is, if he’s warming the bench on a team thats winning trophies. And he’s not exactly a unused sub is he. Plays more or less every other game from them.

Depends what would be classed as ‘better things’ I suppose.

Ok Milner and Bellamy have looked quality these years and Dahl tomassen became a brilliant striker
    But seriously lads Carroll?
He loved the shirt and gave his all but we got a great price for someone hat played 6 months in the PL and he certainly isn’t showing he’s worth it.
He hasn’t been the one helping them to the CUP final

It’s always a gamble for players moving to new teams, some work out like Ba coming in, some don’t, Carroll at the minute for an example.
It’s a choice for players, Shearer stayed at his home team club even when he could have easily gone elsewhere and probably won, Gerrard again another who stayed and maybe he’d have won more if he had moved to Chelsea.

Like I said, it’s always a gamble and quite often the grass isn’t always greener, maybe financially it’s better for players to move but if it were me money would be secondary. If you were Shearer ofc you’d have a clause keeping you top dog 😉

I get that they and all clubs are better at home but they’ve quality throughout their team and stevenage should be buried by em but their manager had balls to change their system and fight for a big pay day at spurs
Hope AP grows a pair and sees that we can use another system especially when some players are out

ash knows ba will be gone in summer( its probably the worst kept secret in football now ) hence the signing of cisse. ash knows he will not give ba the money he wants to stay here ( so much for being ambitious eh) and buying cisse now while ba is still here to bed him into the city and make him comfortable be for ba ventures out to a club where he can pick up a few medals and make the most of his career.Being a feeder club for the big lads is never going to make true fans of our club happy, but until ash moves on from here this is the best it is going to get.
