Bayern Munich Interested In Newcastle Summer Transfer Target

9:09 am, Monday, February 20th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 35 Comments

We watched the top of the table clash in France last night with PSV taking on Montpellier in the  Parc des Princes in  Paris.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – Montpellier captain at just 22 years old

And although the visitors  were 2-1 up with just a couple of minutes to play in the game,  PSV equalized through Guillaume Hoarau in the 88th minute,  after John Utaka had put Montpelier ahead on 81 minutes.

That saved new manager Carlo Ancelotti some blushes, but in truth Montpellier looked the better side,  but are still one point behind the Paris-based team in the French League.

And it gave us a chance to see potential Newcastle target Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in action, and generally the Montpellier defense looked solid, unlike PSG’s,  which looked a bid dodgy in the center at the back.

While Mbiwa looked solid in defense he was taken to the cleaners by Jeremy Menez for the PSG late goal,  when he somehow got around the defender who was born in the Central African Republic in 1989.

Apart from that,  the 22 year-old Montpellier captain looked a solid player in central defense for the visitors.

And it seems the versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back-line,  is attracting some attention with his tidy displays with German club Bayern Munich said to be the latest club interested in him.

But the potential good news for Newcastle is that he wants to play in the English Premier League,  and with Newcastle United’ s name sky high in France these days, if Newcastle do want to bring this lad in over the summer,  we must have a decent chance.

When he was told about Bayern Munich’s interest, this is what the 6′ tall defender had to say to Sky Sports:

“Bayern is a very big club. I’m really flattered, but my ambition is to one day play my football in England.”

“And Newcastle is one of the biggest club sides in the world, and I’d really like to join them if at all possible.”

Okay so I put that last line in there. :D

But Newcastle must have a good chance of signing this lad, and Sky Sports have said he’s worth around £5M, but we think we  could get him for less than that, and he could be a great buy for Newcastle.

Since he can play anywhere across the back line, he could immediately be challenging for a full back spot on either side.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has played 8 times at the French U21 level.

Comments welcome.

Don’t know what sort of wages Bayern pay.
    More than us? Quite possibly.

This summer will be an interesting one with all the floating rumours.

  • 4 BigKirky // Feb 20, 2012 at 9:37 AM

I hope this final push for the rest of the season brings some more of lady luck’s stardust which we had at the beginning of the season. Stevie Taylor was a big part of that, but lets hope we can recapture it.

I think the Sunderland game will be a tough one. They like to counter attack now, so we have to be solid. Having Tiote and Cabaye back will be a massive boost, even though Guthrie has done well in most of the games he’s played in.

    I’m looking forward to Saturday.

We need 4 quality defenders .. Tiote’s return will be a big boost for us

@toonincheek Bayern pay big wages to big players! I doubt they would pay this lad more than 40k a week but players like gomez are on the 80-100k a week! I think this lad will join Arsenal myself! Can see us signing Douglas (reckon that deal might already be done) and james Tompkins, tbh, with taylor and hopefully still collocini that will more than do for me!

You never have quite got your head round the PSG,PSV thing have you : )

  • 8 davybtoon // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:00 AM

i can see getting mbwia like but we will hav to move fast like we did with cabaye, players like douglas n petiers also could see coming specially since both on frees i think, then think u will see us moving players like jay rodrigez, n mariappa, anthony knockeart, corgnet, mayuka all players very similar to this ones arnt big names but we can turn into big names

  • 9 Tsunki // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:02 AM

    JfA – Spotted! :)

  • 10 davybtoon // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:02 AM

also the players from the reserves who dont get cut i think will alot more round the first team squad or out on loan with a view to coming back in the squad like dummitt, moyo, inmann, tavernier

  • 11 Tsunki // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:08 AM

Good point it seems times are a changing and we will see more definite progress through the ranks with thje new youth/ reserve setup. When we’re talkimg about buying players we may be underestimating the clubs intention to fill positions in house much more. Tav being a good example.

davytoon- deffo agree on corgnet and knockaert! We’ve watched both of them alot! Im not huge fans of either to be honest and corgnet would be 5m+

  • 13 ganiyu // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:13 AM

    mayuka is Ba replacement.

  • 14 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:15 AM

PSV? PSV EINDHOVEN GOT BEAT 3-0 BY FC GRONINGEN in the Dutch League yesterday!

Oh!!! He means PSG ! PARIS st GERMAINE!

Easy mistake to make i suppose! Just a different country in a different league!

Can,t see us getting this player if Bayern and Liverpool are sniffing around!
I also can,t see Mclaren selling Douglas from Twente for anything less than 10 Mil either!

Still don,t rate Pieters at all, but then heh you all know that anyway!

#12 #13 … how do you know that?

  • 16 Indian Magpie // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:18 AM

    NEWEXPATMAGPIE

douglas is free in the summer so maclaren and his brolly cannot do anything

  • 17 Rotonda heights // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:20 AM

If pardew can’t move away from playing this dangerous high line with our current slow turning CB’s, especially Willo, then we need defenders who are grease lightning. M’Biwa is one of those.

Mike williamson turns like a Pregnant woman in Heels

  • 19 Cheick and Bake // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:22 AM

@14 the only difference between us and livershite … is that they have more money than us … but we have a better team than them … i guess the final league standings would make up the players mind .. if its between nufc and livershite

  • 20 Andymax // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:23 AM

On a different note why is MA still selling shirts with Northern Rock and not Virgin on them, strange…

    ganiyu

i get that feeling too. Myuka could take BA’s place.
Wouldn’t be disappointed with douglas. For a big guy he has got good technical skills and is pretty rapid. Against Man U I couldn’t see what all the fuss about Vertonghen was

  • 22 Rotonda heights // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:26 AM

    C&B

As much as I hate livepool, they are in one final and in the quarters of another. We may have better players, but both teams managers are average and use the players in the wrong way, so neither will be top 4 as I don’t think pardew has the balls to go for it even though Liv, Chelsea, and Ars are really poor this year. I’m still laughing at pardew’s comment we were too attack minded at spurs.

  • 23 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:30 AM

    @16!
Forgot about that one Indian, but our Wally with the Brolly will be well aware of that too!

    @19!
    Point taken!

    @13+20!

Any truth in the story that Ba will pocket a substancial amount from any future Transfer?

  • 24 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:30 AM

    If true! then that sux!

  • 25 Cheick and Bake // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:31 AM

Rotonda .. haha .. i just hope we win the next two games … i cant remember the last time we had more than 50 points … Besides glen roedrrs half a seaon

  • 26 Rotonda heights // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:31 AM

    50% allegedly

  • 27 jayphoto // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:32 AM

@15 In french media its widely reported that we’ve had scouts including Graham Carr at a lot of Dijon games, his chairman said we had an offer rejected in january and that corgnet was unsellable until the summer aswell as corgnet saying he was flattered by newcastles interest but owed it to dijon to see the season out with them! (they took him from the amateur leagues only a year ago giving him his chance)

  • 28 Rotonda heights // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:32 AM

    C&B

    Fingers crossed

  • 29 Cheick and Bake // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:34 AM

@26 .. Sounds like a good player or replacement

  • 30 jayphoto // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:35 AM

To be honest, our transfer dealings aren’t as stealth as we think! Alot of the time it’s just the english press ignores or misses newcastle transfer news! Its usually always reported in the country where they player we’re signing is from! In Lille they we were reporting rumours about cabaye to newcastle last april! yet we didn’t hear about it here till june

  • 31 NEWEXPATMAGPIE // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:38 AM

    Interesting Summer coming up!

  • 32 jayphoto // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:40 AM

@28 corgnets a strange player! I don’t like him myself, he doesn’t seem to be good at anything, but aswell he’s not bad at anything! He’s box to box with an eye for goal though! Reminds me a little bit of a very young frank lampard! Like i said, i don’t particularly rate him, but hes also being looked at by Lyon and Marseille and rumours were liverpool and arsenal so he can’t be too bad, maybe he just had bad games when i saw him!

  • 33 tarie4 // Feb 20, 2012 at 10:56 AM

jayphoto….but id he a player with pace and can beat his man?? Does he have an eye for goal…and is he more attackminded than say dreamboat??

  • 34 Cheick and Bake // Feb 20, 2012 at 11:03 AM

I think our proirities lie in the defence.. Wingers, and the bench… We have good quality in the middle of the team (Cb,Cm,cf) , in my opinion, if we strenghten the fullbacks and the wingers and 2 more players for the bench … we will have an excellent team with massive potential.. and thats if

  • 35 max // Feb 20, 2012 at 5:00 PM

we can get him if MA allowed us to..
