Newcastle Linked With New Center-Back

There is news coming out that both Newcastle and Arsenal are interested in Lille defender Aurelien Chedjou.

Aurélien Chedjou – has played 16 times for Cameroon

The 26 year old Cameroon international joined Lille in 2007 and had previously played for Rouen from 2006, and before that had been at Auxerre, so he’s played his football wholly in the French league.

His agent, Bruno Satin, told

“Lille is doing a little less well than last year so it is likely that after this season he’ll leave the French club.”

“His priority is to go to England. I’m talking to some clubs in the Premier League and we are working for a possible transfer overseas.”

It’s hard to know if what an agent says is true,  because their job is to fix the player up with a new club,  and often they will say things to get their client in the limelight – and in the news – which helps to get the word out that he is available..

But it’s clear that Newcastle need a new center-back, and somebody who can come straight into the first team and fight it out with Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson for the two central defense positions.

Aurélien was born in Douala, the largest city in Cameroon and the capital of Cameroon’s Littoral Province,  in 1985.

His very first club was Pau FC, who play in the lower divisions of the French league,  and he joined them when he 17 years old back in 2003, before joining Auxerre one year later..

This season he has played 25 times for Lille in all competitions,  and since arriving in 2007, he has over 150 appearances for the French Champions with four goals.

Newcastle will know all about this right footed player, after they had watched Yohan Cabaye at Lille last season  lot, and finally signed the French International for €5M last summer.

No mention how much Aurélien would cost, but we would expect it would be under £5M, and players coming in from the French League are usually good value for money, which is what Newcastle want in their transfer dealings.

It’s the first time Newcastle have been linked with this player, and it’s not surprising that Arsenal are linked with this player, since they need new defenders in the summer, after that display in Milan last week in the European Champions League.

The Arsenal defense has not looked strong this season, and they also seem have to have plenty of money available, if only they can persuade Arsene Wenger to use some of it.

Comments welcome.

Every player/ team or scouts watch is being linked with us.

Hard to tell if there is any truth in it, but it is the job of a scout to scout players; doesn’t necessarily mean we are interested 😉

If reports say Newcastle are interested it means we are not.

Somebody mentioned the FIFA update to be honest I do my own stats fro players as they are trully woeful.

    Players are totally disproportionate too.

For example in REAL life Milos Krasic is a tiny player yet in FIFA he is this 6 ft giant who is SLUGGISH and topsy turvy wich he is ANYTHING but.

Good game poor stats for lots of players must be said.

Seem to be working on a high ACON weighting. Could be costly when the tournament comes around. However with a center back I would be less worried as we should have Taylor back along with Willo and hopefully Colo next year. However if he makes starting lineup and ACON comes around and we have 4 starters absent.. That is not good in my view.

    Another ACON player. Tremendous.
Anyone think we should take advantage of the Arsenal clearout in the summer?

Diaby & Denilson would be very very good squad players for very little money, I also love Diame of Wigan, he’s beast.

If were going to sign players now they can’t African, unless there outstanding and worth losing for a month like the two Dembas and Tiote but really should be looking at players like Vertoghan, Mbiwa & Douglas or young English lads like Maguire, Dunk & Bennett or Williams from Boro.

    @ gorgonzola

In real life, Milos Krasic is 4 cm below demba Ba, thats not tiny man. Demba Ba is 189 cm, Krasic is 185 cm.

There are twp players widely being reported to be on our Radar whom i hope WE DON,T SIGN!!

Jan Vertongen from Ajax! and Eric Pieters from Psv!

Thomas Vermaelen was signed by Arsenal from Ajax! And while Arsenal are playing good lately it took Vermaelen two seasons to adapt to the English game!

While Ajax played well against Manure last week, the first goal for the Mancs came from a Vertongen mistake, a fact that was,nt mentioned while everyone on here was singing the Praises of Ajax after the game!

Ajax made a pre-tax profit last year of more than 11Mil ! Mainly due to the fact that their youth and scouting system is second to none!
Some people on here base their interest in players from other clubs purely on the strength that a player is an International or not!
Douglas i would sign up, van de Wiel i would sign up , Roy Berens is another favourite of mine!
De Jong or van Wolfswinkel is another forgotten prospect, banging goals in for Lissabon!!
Our menatity needs to change an we need to sign players from International youth squads and not players who are already established as international stars!
There are players across here who are a hell of a lot better here than Pieters or Vertjongen! Its just our scouiting system only seems to stretch to the French / Belgian border! At he moment!

A disappointing transfer for me is the move of Samba to Russia, Gus Hiddink knows a good player when he sees one, don,t know what the fee was but Blackburn i thinke will be one of the three to take the drop this year.

Krul will be between the sticks for Holland this wednesday evening, Kat-ching! add another two Mill onto his value if anyone comes in for him in the summer.
    Hope not!

Further to this, i hope Vertongen gets picked for the Holland squad on wednesday coz if they do pick him!
England just may have a chance to win this delayed friendly.

Before someone starts calling me names on here about why i feel about these two players!

I have been living across here for more than 25 years and think on the basis of watching the Dutch competition on a weekly basis can decide for myself who i,d like to see in our colours on St James Parks hallowed turf!
