Newcastle Interested In Scottish International Defender

There are reports coming out of East Anglia that Newcastle are one of the sides interested in Norwich City defender Russell Martin.

Russell Martin – Newcastle interested

In the summer Martin, who is 26, will have just one year left on his Norwich contract, and could be acquired in a good deal – hopefully.

After the recent capitulations, it is no surprise that Newcastle want to bring in some defensive cover this summer, and Newcastle will line up a number of targets,  and then bring in players who they can get the best deals on, but the targets have already been identified at Newcastle.

6′ tall Russell Martin was born in Brighton, and he can play both at center-back and right-back, and we think Newcastle will be looking for a player who can play different defensive positions, and that will give manager Alan Pardew  more options across their back four.

Martin joined the Brighton Youth Academy back in 2003, but never played for the first team and left in 2004 to join Isthmian League Division One South side Lewes.

In the same year he joined Wycombe Wanderers, where he stayed for four seasons and played over 116 games for the club with 5 goals, before joining Peterborough United in 2008.

Russell then joined Norwich City from Peterborough in January of 2010, and he played close to 60 games for Peterborough with one goal.

And since he has signed for Norwich he has made 100 appearances for the Canaries by our reckoning with 9 goals in all competitions, and he has picked up one Scotland cap last year,  when he played in the 3-1 win over Wales.

Of course every time we are linked with a right back the Newcastle future of Danny Simpson comes up, and he still has to sign a new contract and in the summer he will have only one year left on his contract and could be sold – if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

It seems that Newcastle are interested in bringing Russell to Newcastle, but it’s a good question as to how much he would cost.

What do you think?

extremely excited for today’s game with Cisse and Ba upfront. Basically our strongest 11 will be playing today. nothing less than 3 points is a disaster as far as i’m concern.

4-3-3 with a diamond formation with HBA instead of Raylor and Cisse and HBA pulling wide and free roaming to pick up the short passes and provide width, with Tiote sitting and protecting and Cabaye playing the box to box role. Boom we’d tear them to pieces.

Realistically we’ll struggle to break them down due to our stagnant formation, and we’ll win ( we should despite this ) with a struggle.

going to be interesting today for sure…
    1. where does hba feature in pardews plans?
    2. will the dembas form a decent partnership?
    3. will our defence stand up to fletcher and doyle?
    4. will it be the rigid 442 or a surprise?
    5. since when did raylor become a key player?
    6. most important – how good will wolves be?

so many questions – cant wait to get some answers…bring it on

Planb – true, but can you honestly say we’ve win convincingly this season? Bar one or two top performances?

But planb, in all honesty how do we know that a 4-2-3-1 wouldnt have gotten us in the same positionn but also playing attractive football at the same time 😉

For all I know we are were we are because of stability and a huge amount of luck not because of Pardews rigid 4-4-2 😉

I think the formation is getting way too much credit this season 😀 just my opinion.
