For the second game in a row Newcastle’s young left-back Davide Santon is our Man of the Match.
Davide Santon – Man of the Match again on Saturday
Davide won the man of the Match award at the debacle at Spurs last time out and he has 34% of the vote currently, and goalscorers Gutierrez and Cisse are second and third with 16% and 14% of the votes.
The Italian International is continuing to improve in Newcastle’s colors, and said late last week that he would improve with every game he plays for Newcastle United.
There’s still time to vote if you haven’t yet done that.

Comment #9I have to agree that Santon is proving to be a very good buy, he did more on Saturday than the rest of the back 4 put together & his attacking runs are better then Jose’s, so if he feels he’s got more to prove, I’m loving the fact he’s keen to do so….
As for Cisse & Ba… is it me or is it the fact that we now have Cisse up front, is seeming to limit what Ba is doing?? He doesn’t seem as effective as he used to be, not sure if it’s cause of the ACoN or what but I much preferred him before Cisse arrived, as least then he seems to be involved more in the games than the past couple!!!
As for our CB’s… what the frak is goin on… 13 goals conceded in the last 3 games is shocking & I’m sorry to say this but it’s not just Willo’s fault.. Colo’s mind seems to be elsewhere & his positioning sense is failing big time.. not sure its cause he’s trying to cover for Willo or what but they need to sort it out or the Muckems will stuff us big time… 🙁

Comment #10thought tiote looked off the pace, his passing was nothing short of terrible. Santon looks like hes going to be a top player! If you compare him to enrique in his first season with us Santons a mile better and a bit younger, reckon we’ve got a player on our hands!

Comment #11Willo and Guthrie? LOL i cant get the image of Willo heading the ball straight at Doyle TWICE or Guthrie misplacing a simple return pass 20 ft over Santon’s head and out for a throw in

Comment #14Santon at left back doesn’t work for me! The whole point of a overlap is to whip a cross is quickly, but with him being sprightly footed he has to either poorly cross with his left or cut back inside given the defend time to get back. Thought he played well though and was probably out best player. I would put him rb and Raylor lb. but pardew won’t drop Simpson!!!

Comment #15To be honest, i like him at left back. He drives infield on his right when attacking, drawing the winger and full back to follow and leaves jonas free out wide. I also think he is going to score sooner rather than later as he gets into good positions in the box alot.

Comment #17@9 shouldnt be a problem next season! Virtually convinced Ba will be signing for a french team in the summer! Possibly PSG but there are rumours that the quatri investment arm (that fund PSG) want to buy another club to compete with PSG! Add that to Al jazeera buying french football tv rights etc and arab money should cause almost a revolution in Ligue 1! Reckon after next season we’ll need somewhere else to buy cheap players!

Comment #20Santon is looks be a great player and he is fast becoming a favourite of mine. The lad is so composed on the ball at the age of 21 and don’t forget the lad hardly played in those opening eleven games until Ryan Taylor was finally dropped. Santon doesn’t lunge in unnecessarily and isn’t afraid to go shoulder to shoulder with players. I was worried when Enrique left but I’m very happy with his replacement. Santon is equally as good going forward but its just a shame we have two right footed players on the left wing, we could do with Ferguson or hba there to whip it in first time and mix it up.
As for the suggestions about playeing Ryan Taylor at right back I think people are quick to forget his flaws which were highighted when he played at left back. The lad tries but he has no pace at all and easily beat in a race. If he doesn’t go forward much then perhaps it could work, I would rather we switched Santon to rightback and put Ferguson on the left. Ferguson may be small but he’s quick and would have Jonas helping him.
PlanB Cisse is probably third because everyone could see the lad was trying. He pressured the wolves players and won the ball back a few times. Its only his second start for us but he’s starting to hold the ball up better and bring others into play as seen with the chances for Ba and Ryan Taylor.

Comment #23irishtoon99 @21. Cisse is but Ba is not (I am hoping we withdraw Cisse because of the slight injury he came off with). We have others such as Santon & Ferguson going off but at least these are within Europe. On the bright side Sessagnon has to go to Ethiopia I think.

Comment #24i can see why he got man of the match, as i think he had a great game, worked hard, normally he has lost the will to run in the second half, but on sat he ran the whole game, and you could see he was trying,
i have to say i voted for HBA, mainly cos when he came on he was at least trying to be positive , 2 good shots,
overall though, santon was MOM

Comment #26I would like to see Ferguson given a run out at left back. Give Santon the right back role and put Simpson on the bench.
I still think Hatem BA is worth an extended run. True he can be knocked off the ball and sometimes dwells too long but he seems to have something that the others don’t. He needs TIME in the first team… and I would have thought that a good coach could iron out his problem areas.

Comment #29pardew’s style doesn’t deseve to do well. I’ll always support the team, but if we are in freefall and he has been found out after a tremendous run of luck and the combined brilliance of Krul and ba, then so be it.
It’s so bloody obvious we should play 433, forget about wingers and play it on the deck.

Comment #32I’ve had to learn to accept what type of team Pardew is going to probably pick. But for the derby, I just hope he actually plays an attacking team.
KRUL
R.Taylor Williamson (is there actually anyone else?) Coloccini, Santon
Tiote
Cabaye Gutierrez
Ben Arfa
Cisse Ba.

Comment #33Tbh I can see Ba, Benny and Cabaye on their bikes. They have been conned. it’s not like the brochure. There is no fast free flowing and passing football. Just a clown of a pathetic clueless manager who won’t let them play the way they want to and we want to see. Lack of a plan B doesn’t begin to describe this excuse for a manager. I really can’t stick him much longer. I’d rather watch Wigan. At least Martinez tries to play football on a zero budget. Better still brendan Rodgers, who can ” change games ” by playing attacking subs and passing football.

Comment #40I still don’t understand why we are so inconsistent against average to less-than-average opposition?
It’s been like this for years (not counting the championship), it’s rare that we get a lead against these teams and finish the games comfortably…..it’s not like our players are that bad either!
