Newcastle manager Alan Pardew held a press conference earlier today before training, and had Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini alongside him, and Alan made a really big deal that Newcastle have signed two of their best players to long term deals.
Mike Ashley – wants to build a successful Newcastle side
And so he should too, because Tim Krul and Fab Coloccini are great players for Newcastle, and are also the future of the club over the next few seasons.
Alan was in his shirt sleeves (a white shirt) with the blue track-suited Coloccini and Krul on either side of him, and Alan was obviously relieved and delighted that the club had signed up two of our very best players.
This is what Alan said at the specially arranged press conference:
“Good morning, it’s early especially on the eve of such a big game but we are so pleased to announce that our captain Coloccini has signed a new four year contract and our goalkeeper Tim Krul has signed a new five year contract.”
“We are absolutely delighted with the news and we’re sure our fans are, and I think it shows the intent in Mike Ashley to keep the core of this team together, because that’s really the bedrock of any successful side.”
“As far as I’m concerned, for the players and staff it is going to be a huge boost ahead of tomorrow’s game, and I hope our fans have a nice smile on their face and continue that through Sunday,”
“We’ve signed Papiss Cisse for a huge fee, but sometimes the most important players are ones you have already, and who have done fantastic.” “These guys sitting next to me have both got a chance of being the Player of the Year at this football club.”
“They’ve been absolutely terrific, they deserve their new contracts and, for me, it takes a big headache away knowing that these two guys will be in and around me.”
“I think Mike Ashley realizes he is going to be here for the long-term, and in view of that he is trying to make every possible chance for us to bring success to the fans and to the football club.”
“These are major, major signings in terms of doing that. The core of our team now are all under contract for a period of time – the next four or five years – and it gives us a great opportunity now to push on and have a successful season.”
“If I was a fan of Newcastle this morning, I couldn’t have better news than this. I would be absolutely delighted and looking forward to the game, and I hope they come in fantastic spirit tomorrow, and really give us the backing we need.”
Alan went out of his way to say that Mike Ashley had realized since he was going to be at the club for the long term, that he wants to bring success to the Newcastle club, and that’s really one of the few times somebody has come out and said that Mike wants to build a top side.
But it’s becoming clear that the Newcastle owner now seems to have a good idea of what he’s doing at Newcastle, and although he keeps making mis-steps, we think he has a good front man in Alan Pardew.
The Londoner who still talks about Newcarstle, is obviously delighted to be the current manager of Newcastle United, that’s very clear.
Things are shaping up to be exciting times ahead for Newcastle fans, and Alan is also an excellent communicator and Mike needs someone up front, to tell the fans what’s going on at the club, and Alan does his best to fulfill that job.
With Liverpool being beaten 2-1 by Arsenal at Anfield earlier today, and Chelsea losing 1-0 at West Brom, Newcastle now have a chance to go 7 points ahead of Liverpool with a win against Sunderland tomorrow afternoon, and level on points with Chelsea.
