Newcastle Linked With New Center-Back Target

The Sunday Sun are reporting today news of another central  defender that Newcastle are interested in.

Toby Alderweireld – Ajax and Belgium International center-back

The news is that we are interested in Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld, and he will have been watched when the club was checking on another Belgian International center-back at Ajax – Jan Vertonghen.

We don’t think Newcastle will be able to sign Vertonghen, with his preference being to join Tottenham and he’s probably too expensive, but it seems that Newcastle are turning their attention to his Ajax and Belgian International colleague, Toby Alderweireld.

The 6’1″ center-back only turned 23 on Friday, and he was born in Antwerp and has played for Belgium 16 times, and he also played for his country at U17, U19 and U21 level, making his full debut back in 2009 against the Czech Republic.

Tony has played 125 times for Ajax with 10 goals since making his debut back in 2008, and he has been at Ajax since he joined the Ajax Academy back in 20004, from Belgium club Beerschot AC.

Tony is a regular in the Ajax side having started 19 games in the Eredevise this season, and of course he scored the 87th minute winner in Ajax’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford in the Europa Cup a week last Thursday.

The news is that the Newcastle scouts have been watching both Ajax center-backs this season, but we have to think we have more chance of signing Alderweireld than Vertonghen.

What do you think?

Ajax unlikely to want to sell both of their first choice CBs.

    More made up press bollox.

Ready for my first beer – breakfast.

He looks a bit like santon in that picture , maybe he’s a future clone since he joined Ajax academy in 20004.

But HTL! F***g make the SMB beg for mercy! The lads need to be up for this, this is a must win game.

could be right mate, but money talks and so does european football
would be a real catch for us if we could get either, cabaye standard but more likely cisse cost

This kid is the real deal, saw him a few years ago and thought he had potential – would be able to do this one under the radar too. Wishing I was in the 3 Bull’s right now but got to make do with a rainy Nottingham HWTL!

    hey there,

It’s been long since i posted here.
As a belgian NUFC fan, I always “scout” possible belgians for newcastle. Alderweireld plays quite well at CB. He has great vision for passing (short & long) and good from far range. He’s also capable at RB as he’s the first choice RB of the national team atm. He’d definitely fit in our squad. I’d choose him before Vertonghen & Williamson

A good backup keeper maybe Portsmouth’s Henderson for £500k.

Get him in Douglas on a free and Pieters as left back for £5m.

Also think another Winger is needed, Obertan not good enough, Ben Arfa too inconsient but played better than I thought he could and im one of his best fans same for Jonas Guiterrez because on facebook a lot of people don’t rate him and do very highly and Ryan Taylor not fast enough and Marveaux injury problems I take Drenthe as a bosman.

That Icelandic boy on loan at Swansea would be outstanding Sigurdsson like £5m. Which is £10.5m spend and sell Forester and Ranger release Smith.
