Newcastle United and Sunderland have both been charged with misconduct by the English FA after last Sunday’s unruly Tyne-Wear derby game.
This is the FA Statement that was issued today:
“Newcastle United and Sunderland have both been charged with misconduct following the match between the two sides on Sunday, March 4, 2012.”
“The charge is that the clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour and is in relation to an incident which occurred in the 19th minute following a challenge by Sunderland’s James McClean on Newcastle’s Danny Simpson.
“Both clubs have until 4pm on March 12, 2012 to respond to the charge.”
Simpson reacted to a McClean’s tackle in the first half and the melee at one point involved 21 players, and finally the referee Mike Dean was able to bring things under control, and gave yellow cards to both McClean and Simpson.
During the game Mike Dean issued eight yellow cards in total and two reds to Sunderland players Lee Cattermole and Stephane Sessegnon, and in the first minute Cattermole made a ridiculous lunging tackle on Cheick Tiote, which set the tone for the game.
And one thing we didn’t like at all were the confrontations between the two benches, and after the game Alan Pardew rightly apologized for his over-reaction to the Newcastle equalizer in stoppage time, when he celebrated rather blatantly right in front of Sunderland’s bench.
And Martin O’Neil made a big point immediately after the game, suggesting Newcastle officials had visited the referee at half time, and then yesterday he objected to Alan Pardew’s contention that Sunderland had a game plan to rough up Newcastle players.
The two managers need to cool it – and we hope that Alan Pardew does not respond to any questions regarding Martin’s comments yesterday, at his news conference later this week – it’s time to bring this thing to a close.
And given the nonsense that was going on both on and off the field last Sunday, especially in that first half, it’s not surprising the FA have charged both clubs.
What do you think?

Comment #85Hopefully if our scouting network increases around the world we might be able to get one of these genuine world class players.
Very happy with where the club is going…would just love a surprise signing of player like Ganso from brazil…..just get a genuine world class prospect in.
But sadly that wont happen….shola will do 😀

Comment #87Messi is absolute class, pointless discussing whether he is the best ever as that will never be known, look at his goalscoring feats and his general contribution to teamplay, he is mesmerising, to compare a fit RVP to Messi is a pretty wild statement, head and shake springs to mind,
Best i have seen for sure, Maradona was a cnut anyway probably played most of his games full of coke or speed, for me cannot say players are best ever, maybe most entertaining to watch, but if Franco baresi was tasked with man to man mark messi, for me he would have took him to the cleaners, so it is all a positional discussion really. Anybody say Paulo Maldini was the best ever, have a look at his medals and career, pure legend.

Comment #94I think we really really REALLY need to play Hatem Ben Arfa at AMC, Its his natural postion, and he lacks abit of pace at the moment, he can dribble past people and get straight into the box head on, and he slot the killer balls through for Ba and Cisse.
I think the arrival of Cisse has forced HBA out to the right.
KRUL
Simmo Colo Willo Santon
Tiote
Cabaye Guthrie
HBA
Cisse Ba
However this obviously has no wing players, so i honestly think our best bet is rotating Ba and Cisse however im not sure this would be an option, I truely think the below formaiton would be beast, shame about only one striker…
KRUL
Simmo Colo Willo Santon
Cabaye Tiote
Obertan HBA Jonas/Marveux
Cisse / Ba
or another option would be to put HBA on the right and but Ba in the AMC position, his pasisng is quite good and long shots to.
Its a real dilemma but i would go for this formation…
Simmo Colo Willo Santon
Cabaye Tiote
Obertan HBA Jonas/Marveux
Cisse / Ba

How many times can you remember our wingers creating goals this season. Personally, i cant remember many. Remember the likes of nobby, robert or gillespie grabbing assists for fun, we have nobody who can cross a ball who play on the wings, so i wouldnt say we need wingers on the pitch at all, I like the look of that first team much rather than that second

Comment #96i REALLY AGREE KC TOON!
But i cant see a premier league team playing with no members, the amount of times jonas had ball against sunderland and done nothing was shocking! Look at Nani or Young for Man utd so dangerous!
I would love to see that team but dont think a PL would team dare not to use wingers… its a shame

Comment #101Congrats to APOEL Nicosia for making it in the last 8 of the CL. A budget of 15 mil … So, should NUFC wait till we are ready for such challenges, as some bloggers cautiously suggest? Hell no, we should go for Europe, now. Just believe it.

Comment #103Did Steve Gerrard get charged for the deliberate forearm smash/elbow in the Carling Cup Final?
It really looks like the FA have it in for NUFC or Ashley.
The Football Association chairman, David Bernstein used to be chairman of Blacks Leisure group.

Comment #109Still coming down after that barcelona game. I do so hope pardew was watching. Now that’s how you play football. The ball stays on the deck.
It’s funny Dani Alves and Pique are on another planet to Simpson and Williamson. Footballing defenders who don’t just hoof it.

Comment #111Rotonda, I so much agree with you, but you need movement if you want pass and move football.
I have been saying this for a long time. It is one of the reasons why HBA havent been a successc thr other is our formation and tactics.
I would even say it is for the same reason Cabaye has been less than avarage lately. We are hoofing the ball over his head instead of using him.
I like the idea of how Barca play, but Padew needs to change a lot if you ask me 🙂
