French International Shocked At Newcastle’s League Position

10:29 am, Monday, March 12th, 2012 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 39 Comments

Before Yohan Cabaye joined Newcastle in the summer from Lille for €5M, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew talked to him a few times.

Yohan Cabaye – surprised at Newcastle’s league position

And Yohan has said the Newcastle manager told him how and where he would play him in the side, and probably also talked about the expectations for this season.

And he would have probably said the aim for Newcastle is to finish in the top ten, after the lads finished in a  good 12th position last season, their first season back after being away for a year down below.

So the fact that Newcastle are 5 points clear in 6th position right now in the league has surely exceeded expectations.

Yohan has talked today about being surprised at just how well our lads are doing this season:

“When I signed for Newcastle I didn’t think we would be in the position we are in right now,”

“There are six clubs in England that have been up there for the last few years, so it was always going to be difficult to join them.”

“The good start helped and we started to believe we belonged near the top.”

Of course it’s due to the form of players like Yophan himself, and Tiote, Coloccini, Ryan Taylor and Demba Ba that Newcastle are doing so very well this season.

And things are definitely on the up on Tyneside, and we think the summer transfer window will be another prosperous one for Newcastle,  and we should have an even stronger squad come September.

But we still have 11 games to go this season, starting with the game tonight in London against Arsenal, and if we can get anything at all out of this game it will be a good result for Newcastle.

I think cabaye was consistent .. He just needs better players to pass to (on the wings)

  • 9 flash // Mar 12, 2012 at 10:44 AM

    Team for tonight
    Raylor Willo Colo Santon

    Cabaye Tiote Jonas

    Arfa BA

That should keep them shut in Midfield and offer plenty protection for the back 4. Also going forward we should be a constant danger.
    Bring on them gunners

He has been far too deep imo recently mate, He needs to get forward and affect play more like early season.

I agree though Bennys intro last week just lifted peoples games, he is on the wavelength of Cabaye Ba etc…Raylor just isnt

He’s shocked? Welcome to the club! 🙂 conscensus of 5 man mid spot on I think. I do worrry that jonas will get little change out of Sagne though – how that works out will change the emphasis to our right hand play, and that’s where HBA comes in for me. I don’t mind if Raylor plays LB really as I might be better to stifle their right side attack (santon too tempted to push forward and this may not be his game to do that) think if we win this all euro bets are suspended from position 4 and Down!

Aye Cabaye, you need to keep a close watch on Rosicky,he hasnt received the plaudits coz of RVP but he’s really run the show in midfield over the last few games.

Cabaye was in top form at the start of the season! Which resulted us being unbeaten till November!

If we sign two decent players in the summer to help Cabaye in Midfield and one for the defense!

I worry when you see some artikles on here about Llambias talking about selling our best players! It would not surprise me at all if Tiote will be gone to Chelski or Manure in the summer! I just hope that they ask at least 25Mil plus for him! If Carroll was 35Mil value then Cheick must be worth at least that and more!

Then you get the plonker saying a few days later that we are a selling club! It just makes you wonder just who they are going to be shipping out in close season?

Cabaye is right about our position in the league! I think that was due to a variety of reasons! Some of the games we ran our luck and a lot of decisions went our way!
Then we had that ten day series of fixtures: Man shitty-Manure and Chelsea, two away and one at home. This combined with the AFRICAN stints of two important players!

Our defense was settled at the start of the season! Which may of been due to Steve Taylor who alongside the other defenders were playing well! Krul played his part in that too! There really seemed to be an understanding between the back four. This was all finnished when Taylor got himself crocked!

Collo: Cabayes performances were like “Porn”!?

WOOF! Not sure how to react to that one!

A win this evening will do me fine! The Gunners have been flying just recently so its time they tripped up!

Agree with the team you,ve picked but am hoping that they are,nt asleep at the start like they were at Whitehart Lane!
Our travels to London hav,nt been good this year but hopefully that will end this evening!

Having said that i think its going to be a draw 2-2!

    Just banter pal

I agree with what you said there, spot on

  • 33 geordiejamie89 // Mar 12, 2012 at 1:18 PM

I think Newcastle should make the most of the money available in the summer to sign plenty good players, and with some good players in the teams that might go down come the end of the season, Newcastle should make the most of winning the bids on these players. Cisse and Zamora would rather not play in the Championship, it would be nice to have a couple extra classy strikers in the squad. Anton Ferdinand has been improving. There’s loads more players amongst the teams set for the drop, but Blackburn don’t look to be one of them at the minute, and QPR have the worst fixtures remaining so they’ll do well to stay up now.
Anyone on any other players Newcastle could steal?

does my head in when people talk about santon! he has played really well considering its his first season. so why drop him or put him right bk! left bk is his position n no one elses!

cabaye! well you say he not playing as good as he was! yer ok then, he has played his socks out! do 1!!!!

  • 38 Jamiemac // Mar 12, 2012 at 6:49 PM

I have no idea why people keep putting Raylor in ahead of Simpson in their preferred XI. Yes Raylor has been top class this season with his set plays but when he played at LB he relied so heavily on Jonas tracking back and yes he is a decent RM due to his defensive qualities but no way is he a better full back than Simpson. Simpson has pace, he knows when to put in a tackle and he has showed he can cope even when an attacking player like Ben arfa plays RM so I would have Simpson in my team as RB every day of the week ahead of Raylor. Doesnt mean theres no room in the team for him because he has been fairly consistent in midfield.
