Newcastle Linked With England Full-Back

There is a report that Newcastle United are interested in England and Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson.

Glenn Johnson – would Newcastle pay £10M for this player?

The report is in footballfriendsonline and no source is indicated, so this story could be just a little bit untrue.

With Danny Simpson still refusing to sign his new contract, Newcastle will probably be linked with a number of right backs.

The former West Ham, Chelsea and Portsmouth defender turns 28 in August so he is three years older than Danny Simpson,  and it would be unusual for Newcastle to go after an older player, although not impossible.

Young Martin Kelly looks a really good player at Liverpool, and seems the obvious long term deal at right back, and the England U21 International has looked very good in Liverpool colors recently.

That may see Kenny Dalglish ready to sell Johnson in the summer. and if Danny Simpson does leave, then Glenn would be a decent replacement, although he’s better on attack than on defense.

25-year-old Simpson will not be allowed to run down his contract in the next 16 months or so on Tyneside, and if he doesn’t sign a new deal by the summer he’ll be sold.

It’s all a little confusing because when Danny is interviewed,  he always says it’s great at Newcastle and all the right stuff, while still refusing to sign a new contract.

The fee quoted for Johnson is £10M, so forget about Newcastle paying that for a 28 year-old – there will be good players for about 20% of that fee that Chief Scout Graham Carr and his staff can find on the continent.

The £10M fee mentioned puts great doubt on the story, so we’d be very surprised if Newcastle would spend £10M on Johnson, who’s a decent full back but not worth that money.

Graham Carr and the scouting staff – it’s over to you.

What do you think?

The dressing room may be positive but I’m not.

Time and time again we are pillows by the opposition and time and time again we throw away points.

From arsenal to wolves, man utd to Wigan, We are continuously outplayed and rely on our ‘passion’ to try and see us through!

It worked for the first 15 games and now we are spiralling down and drowning in shite football and like leonardo di caprio, we haven’t got a life jacket.

What happened to ‘we have to be in it after 70 minutes’? I thought Pardew meant so we could attack not play for a draw.

We have such an unbalanced team oita frightening and pardews tactical niaevity is clear for all to see.

I said it last night and I’ll say it again, since janurary we have been, in terms of quality on the field of play, the worst team in the premiership.

I shall reserve my judgement on Pardew for another season and instead of ccommiting to any ‘Pardew out’ campaigns I will commit to the needed squad overhaulgh points of view.

If we do not add at least 6 players this summer and retain our big names, u can honestly see a relegation battle for 2012-2013.

    Bollocks even …

Lots of good RB’s on the continent for a lot cheaper than Johnson.

yeah we’ll definitely pay over the odds for an English player who’s not played well for over a year.
we’ve also offered 25million for gareth Barry and are looking to get smile heskey over the line

sorry for reposting from last thread

Honestly, i dont care to much about the result, i thought it was a decent performance against a very good team, the depressing part is actually being an newcastle supporter when reading comments on this blog.

How people can hate the tactics and hate pardew and hate perch and hate simpson and hate williamson is beyond me! Pardew got the tactis spot on last night, it wasnt his tactics that changed during half time to some of you muppets saying so, it was Arsenals that changed. Pressed higher and put us under a lot of pressure, and when we dont have a team that can handle to much pressure it is FAR better to hoof it up at times, than making mistakes at the back,

The worst thing is that im pretty sure some of you on this blog is just as negative now as when we relegated…be real to what newcastle are, and where we are at, and stop living in the couple of years we were actually a big team in england…

I’m not sure about Glen Johnson. I would rather put Santon on RB and get Pieters on LB.

    Off topic:
Five things about the Arsenal game:

    1. Tioté was the best man. His attacking and defensive game is outstanding – hope not he is seriously injured. Krul was also great, but with his mental fall out his is only second in my book.
    2. Ben Harfa showed today that he has become a more complete player. His defensive game was very good. It was very few times Arsenal had success with attacking on their left side.
    3. Willo is having a hard time at the moment. RVP’s goal was to easy for him to score. And on a few other situations he also makes the wrong decisions.
    4. I have never been, and I’m still not, a fan of Perch. However – he made a good jump-in on LB (when he is not standing with his arm in the air trying to call an offside). On a few other occasions he has been a good sub. As long as we keep him away from CB.
    5. Danny Simpson is a hazard in the defense. He stands in the wrong position, tries to dribble or play “Barcelona-style” in the box. And with the Arsenals second goal he tried to dribble like Messi with one minute to go instead of playing it safe. Arsenal gets the ball and 20 seconds later a free Vermalen is scoring because there is no Danny Simpson to cover him.

we lost. in the final minute. to an in form arsenal side. van persie is one of the top strikers in the world. Williamson struggled against him but i expected that to be honest. Williamson may bot be good enough for the first team but hs all we’ve got right now.
wish people would calm down. it was a food match and almost a good point.

I think we will all calm down when we get a nice win under our belts…

Lads played well but hte buckled under imense presure. Lets not forget that this is the side that steam roled AC MILAN just a few days ago.

I think we deserved a point like there is no tomorrow, but such is football.

We do however need to work on possession of the ball in matches like this. Only thing that is telling me is inexperience from the likes of Simmo WIllo for example.

But they are players here cause we are still hurting since the relegation. I am not to bothered at times we looked good, we need to know how to shake pressure from teams like Arseal and Spuds.

Budget wise they are a MASSIVE club I think we will get there, but one thing is for sure, in our squad we need some HBA at the back, a BA in the back. We need a quality back line nowadays…

I am just a little disappointed to see Cabaye drop of form he was absolutely nowhere last night…

    we will recover HWTL!!!!!

I for one am not living in the past and hoping for a trio downory lane.

I can clearly see that you are taken in by the leauge position and are oblivious to the total lack of footballing quality in our team. You probably stay at home watching YouTube and then comment on the team.

Take it from someone who watches the games that we are a pot team in a higher position than we deserve. I’m not a defeatist or a negative person but I am brutally honest!

if we play a full game like we did this first half i think every team below us would be struggling against us.
jesper has been begging for a 4-5-1 for ages and it looks much better. obertans is better off the wing. he still needs robin improve his decision making but i thought he looked better last night

“We have such an unbalanced team oita frightening and pardews tactical niaevity is clear for all to see.” Yesterdays tacticks were spot on, we almost got a point at one of the most difficult pitches in EPL. The team was balanced, and Tim Krul made only 3-4 saves all night.

Your negativity is getting a bit boring to read, go down to the pub and grab a pint, maybe that will cheer you up a bit!

Couple of points, he’s better than Simpson in terms of attacking and crossing, defensively he’s probably about the same. 10mill is too much, we could prob get Van Der Wiel for less than that. For 10mill we could prob bring in Clyne and Pieters, plus say Rhodes.

Glen Johnson? We already have a full back / defender who loves gallivanting up fornt, but cant defend properly thank you. 10 million quid? Have you lost your mind, there is no way jose that BFCB will sanction that with no sell on value. Tavernier is surely not that far away and simply can not be any worse than Danny Simpleton.

    Norwich City (H) Newcastle win
    WBA (A) WBA win
    Liverpool (H) Newcastle win
    Swansea (A) Swansea win
    Bolton (H) Newcastle win
    Chelsea (A) Draw
    Stoke (H) Newcastle win
    Wigan (A) Newcastle win
Man City (H) Man City Win
    Everton (A) Everton Win

That is definently enough to keep us in the top 7… I think

Šime Vrsaljko and davide santon. Those two are the only two right back i would love to see in NUFC if Simpson leave.

For our LB problem, we could snap Martin Olsson if Blackburn relegated, or snap Ryan Bertrand of Chelsea, but Ryan doesnt have much EPL experience, but his displays in England u21 is really good

Would be a good signing, he has some good qualities, but it wouldn’t happen. I don’t think we’d spend the money that Kenny could get for him. And his wages are high for a defender, he’d be on similar to Collocini if he signed.

If newcastle get 15 points from the last ten games I’ll be happy. And if on top of that 15 points, we beat Liverpool at home that would be enough to finish above them I think. That’ll be our biggest game of the season, I don’t think we need to worry about Chelsea or Arsenal they’re gone now. Hopefully Robin Van Persie will get injured what a turd he is. You’d never see Messi or Rooney being pathetic like that.

Well done to Shola who looked great when he came on and caused Arsenal a lot of grief, holding up the ball, defending and playing some calm, sensible passes.
If Benny starts, we just can’t afford Obertan in the side as well. He was irresponsible with the ball, defended weakly although he did play Benny in for the goal. But that was his contribution and it will not be hard to improve next season by replacing him. As for danny Simpson, I am happy with him, but if his agent has lost the run of himself the I reckon Tavernier has bundles of attitude and will be a good replacement. I also see Santon as a RB not a LB.

Beattie. You cannot come on here day after day and slag off the team the manager the players the owner and then tell us I am not defeatist or negative. I don’t care how many games you have bitched your way through. You are a defeatist and negative and I would add a real BMW. And that is brutally honest.
