Demba Ba Best Signing – Krul 5th Best Goalkeeper

Newcastle’s Demba Ba has been voted as the Premier League’s signing of the season.

Demba Ba – signing of the season

That’s according to a vote by all of the Premier League managers – and of course Demba Ba was a free transfer from West Ham, but it is said that Newcastle had to pay his agent around £2M to get him.

Demba Ba’s 16 goals has him in 3rd position in the goal-scoring charts at the moment behind van Persie (26) and Wayne Rooney (20).

Ba got 56% of the vote with Manchester United defender Phil Jones on 13% coming in second with Scott Parker in third spot with the same percentage.

Scott Parker was the Newcastle captain while he was at the club for a couple of seasons from 2005 through 2007.

Ba was voted the third best striker in the Premier League with 19% of the vote – the same as Sergio Aguero, with Robin van Persie tops on 25%.

And Tim Krul was 5th in the goalkeeper stakes with 6% – the same as Shay Given – Joe Hart was top with a whopping 69% followed by Pepe Reina and American Brad Friedel.

Surprisingly Alan Pardew was not among the best managers, with Swansea’s Brendan Rogers on 47% and Norwich City manager Paul Lambert on 40% and Steve Kean got 6% of the vote – the same as Robero Mancini.

We think Paul Lambert is going to become a top manager – but why is Steve Keen in there?

And it’s interesting that the two top managers are with two of the promoted teams this season, but of course QPR’s Neil Warnock got the sack in January.

And the managers voted  St. James’ Park Stadium third, as the ground with the best atmosphere on a match day, with Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium  behind winners Liverpool’s Anfield.

Some on Tyneside would disagree with that vote.

Anyway, Newcastle comes out of this looking good, but the surprise to us is that Alan Pardew didn’t get some recognition.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Get on the sledge its time for the Pardew – slating toboggan ride! Ed are you not just inviting the triplets to chime in with this one? Shocking that AP isn’t on the list but there ye go that’s jealousy for you.

Congratulations to all the toon lot in there, nice to see Krul getting some recognition too.

I don’t understand how they came up with the odd percentages? 20 managers, therefore each vote is worth 5% is it not? Yet some are like 6% and 47%, am I just being blonde?

Krul 5th? IMO only Hart and Vorm have been better and not by much too. Also they’ve not had to worry about having Willo “protecting” them.

Good point LewSpi. It was weighted: Fergie 8%, Wenger7% etc… 😉
Or perhaps there were more than 20 managers. Some teams have had a couple, e.g. Sunderland, QPR

shocked pardews not in there! if its chosen by the league managers, maybe he’s upset 1 too many 🙂
based on ability I rate Krul as the 3rd best goal keeper in the league! For ability I rate De Gea as the best, he’s not shown it yet but he’s got the ability to make saves other keeps only dream of! Joe Hart 2nd, Krul 3rd! On form I’d rate Krul top, even ahead of Joe Hart because he’s had far far more to do and kept us in games, Harts not conceded many, but then you could have Mike Hooper playing behind Kompany, Lescott, Toure, De jong, barry etc and he wouldn’t either!

Agreed on the Obertan thing, but you have to admire Kean on the way he has handled himself, gone about his work, never criticised the fans when they should be concentrating on backing their team and lifted the team from rock bottom to 16. I know I would’ve lost my cool and I’ve never lost it on this blog 🙂 Hats off, a gentleman.

I agree with you 100% my friend. He has had a bloody hard job to do there, and in exceptionally unfavourable conditions. And his character has more than stood up to it

If the poll truly was limited to premiere league managers then there are only going to be about 22 people voting (including sacked ones) so even a couple of managers voting a certain way will have quite a large skew effect on the poll.
Off topic I noticed last night there were a lot of people commenting on Danny Guthrie. I think his body language and lack of effort showed he is thoroughly fed up being dropped when Cabaye came back and Obertan being picked ahead of him in a 5 man midfield was probably the last straw. Definitely off in the summer imo.

When I voted for the MOM against the Arse, I hadnt seen the results of the voting, and was SURE that no one would have voted for Obertan. Thought it might get some chuckles to throw in a sarcastic vote for him, but it looks like theirs 17 other fools like me out there 🙂 Nothing against him personally, but I have a copy of “Football For Dummy’s” as a Christmas gift for him. As Christmas comes all the way in December though…….anyone have a problem with me covering it in chocolate and sending it for Easter? Lots of love Obertan, just please learn the basics of the game so that I stop having such ridiculous questions in my mind as to how you earn 5 figures each week for what you do as I bust my hump at a career that pay me peanuts….and not jumbo ones at that. The little runt ones that only have 1 nut in them when you open them, and the one thats left looks like it was born 3 months early. THOSE kinds of peanuts! HTL, just having some mockery fun.

Rogers and Lambert are letting their boys play proper football.
Martinez is also a great manager and a great footy brain with great footy style, shame he’s at a sh-te club.

Tim Krul has been better than Friedel and Reina this season without a doubt. Reina has made quite a few mistakes this season, and I’m convinced Krul will move above in ratings next season if Newcastle have a strong defence to back him up.
