Newcastle’s Development squad will come under significant change this summer.
Scot Willie Donachie - Newcastle Development manager
Newcastle will be letting Ryan Donaldson, Phil Airey, Dan Taylor, Greg McDermott. Tamas Kadar, Samuel Adjei, Ole SoderburgJoan, Joan Edmundsson, Jeff Henderson and Patrick Nzuzi leave in the summer.
And in their place the news is that Newcastle have already identified a number of top youngsters, some from France (what a surprise), who will come through the door over the summer months.
A number of clubs are checking out the Newcastle youngsters who can leave, and indeed Faroe Islands international midfielder Joan Edmundsson has just left Newcastle and signed on at Norwegian Premier League side Viking Stavanger.
Former Newcastle Reserve-team boss Tommy Craig is now at St. Mirren, and he has been checking on a number of Newcastle’s youngsters, including Ryan Donaldson, Phil Airey, Dan Taylor and Greg McDermott, and he’s been seen on Tyneside a couple of times to check on the youngsters.
What is certain, is that Newcastle must bring in better quality youngsters in the future, because a lot of the top youngsters we thought would come through into the first team squad, just haven’t come through.
Alan Pardew has gained support from owner Mike Ashley to the tune of around £15M, and the manager has pointed out the club have to do a lot better with the youngsters they sign up, and how they are scouted.
Two of the current top youngsters at the club are two 17 year-old local lads, center-back Remie Streete and striker Adam Campbell.
And news that Newcastle Reserves will take on Blackburn Rovers behind closed doors tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm at the club’s Benton training headquarters, and some of Newcastle top youngsters like Remie Steele should be playing.
