Newcastle Development Squad Undergoing Big Changes

Newcastle’s Development squad will come under significant change this summer.

Scot Willie Donachie – Newcastle Development manager

Newcastle will be letting Ryan Donaldson, Phil Airey, Dan Taylor, Greg McDermott. Tamas Kadar, Samuel Adjei, Ole SoderburgJoan, Joan Edmundsson, Jeff Henderson and Patrick Nzuzi  leave in the summer.

And in their place the news is that Newcastle have already identified a number of top youngsters, some from France (what a surprise),  who will come through the door over the summer months.

A number of clubs are checking out the Newcastle youngsters who can leave,  and indeed Faroe Islands international midfielder Joan Edmundsson has just left Newcastle and signed on at Norwegian Premier League side Viking Stavanger.

Former Newcastle Reserve-team boss Tommy Craig is now at St. Mirren, and he has been checking on a number of Newcastle’s youngsters, including Ryan Donaldson, Phil Airey, Dan Taylor and Greg McDermott, and he’s been seen on Tyneside a couple of times to check on the youngsters.

What is certain, is that Newcastle must bring in better quality youngsters in the future, because a lot of the top youngsters we thought would come through into the first team squad, just haven’t come through.

Alan Pardew has gained support from owner Mike Ashley to the tune of around £15M, and the manager has pointed out the club have to do a lot better with the youngsters they sign up,  and how they are scouted.

Two of the current top youngsters at the club are two 17 year-old local lads, center-back Remie Streete and striker Adam Campbell.

And news that Newcastle Reserves will take on Blackburn Rovers behind closed doors tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm at the club’s Benton training headquarters, and some of Newcastle top youngsters like Remie Steele should be playing.

regarding guthrie, (from the previous story) said before, the massive rumour down here is that he’s signing for Villa with the promise of starting line up place! Its possible Pardew doesnt want to upset cabaye (a player who will be one of our main men next season) by dropping him for a player that’s decided he’s off in the summer!

i like guthrie but he is only going to be a squad player for us at best i think and cabaye and tiote know this hence why cabayes performances have dropped quite considerably in my opinion.. prob best for all parties if he moves on and we take someone else in his place

@3 yeah, he’s one of those players that will come and bite us if he leaves! I heard today we’re looking at shifting Gosling too, thought he had a lot of potential tbh!
With Guthrie, if he was playing 30 games a season, theres no reason he couldn’t break into the england side, his style and range of passing is different to whats available with maybe the exception of Michael Carrick but I rate Guthrie higher than carrick! Would love to see him tried out in a 4-3-3 with tiote and cabaye, with HBA Ba and Cisse/Jonas up ahead of them! Failing that, a fit Marveaux on the left wing!

What!? We’re signing some youngsters from France? I’m shocked to my very core!!

This is very exciting indeed, can’t wait to see the quality of the youngsters we get in and how they develop over the next few years.

Also glad to hear a lot of the youngsters we’ve axed are already finding themselves new clubs, or at least some possibilities are there. I know they never quite made the grade, but I wish them all the best.

Regarding Guthrie, I agree, if he does go I can easily see him becoming a decent, established player for one of our rivals.

There’s no doubt that he’s a good player who deserves more football, so I won’t be surprised if he goes, but I will be disappointed. After all, we need a bigger squad with more quality, especially if we’re going to mount a serious European assault – and having Guthrie as a backup/occasional starting player is a hallmark of a good squad. Hope he stays (he’s bound to get 4-5 games in January)!

Replacing a player of Guthrie ability won’t come cheap. Might as well keep him for good depth.

For me, that is our strongest team, however I would swap Raylor for Simpson. He has actually played really well since the Sunderland game, (with te exception of the 2nd arsenal goal when he got cramp), he looks like he’s really fighting for his place and contract.

Both Streete and Campbell are out. Dunno for how long, but i think Capmbell will be back at the end of the season. With 2-3 matches left to play maybe.

@ cheick – id swap tiote for cabaye in that formation! Tiote is all action and i think is better in the middle rather than just in front of the defense! Let him run around like a bull in a china shop in the middle of the park! That way cabaye can bring the ball forward and have 5/6 options ahead of him!

Jesus Christ, spanish clubs are owing £600 million in taxes.
That’s insanity, what the hell are they doing?!
They could buy, rebuild and run Greece the next 5 years with that money.

Football and money are becoming way over the top, it’s borderline disgusting. No, tbh, it’s way past it.

Want to see AP stick with the same starting 11 against Norwich. And yes that includes Obertan upfront, watched the Canaries against Wigan and the sheer pace of Rodallega n Moses caused them alot of trouble. Ober can offer this and even more if given another chance to play centrally.

@klatoon – i think it’ll be the same line up but with Cisse or shola in for Obertan! Obertan is so so quick but iv only seen him use it once (against blackburn), when running with the ball hes slow as a post! would love him just to bang the ball 10 years behind the full back and sprint after it!
Pardew has put a lot of faith in cisse, paying our biggest fee for 5 years nearly on him, doubt he’ll be on the bench too many games!

also, at the risk of getting annihilated! how about Perch at right back? he was a right back when we signed him, he seems to have got to grips with the premier league now! Simpson and Taylor are both doubts for sunday, thought Perch looked good against arsenal (actually out performed Santon)

If we play the 5-man midfield again on Sunday…then surely Cabaye has to take Obertan’s position and Guthrie to slot in Cabaye’s position

Are our reserve and youth team players not good enough or is it really the fault of of our coaches at that level who aren’t technically proficient enough to bring them (or anyone) through?
If it really is the latter I’m afraid it won’t matter who we bring in or from where.
It will be interesting to see if Ferguson, Streete and Sameobi ever make it, as seeing the ‘highly rated’ Campbell in the past hasn’t excited me.

perch could be a decent option on the right. he does know how to put a tackle in.
i think perch suffers from his reputation in his first prem season and the unfortunate circumstances forcing him into cb with Simpson against big strong forwards. he’s been a good utility player this filling in where needed. perch, raylor and gosling (to a lesser extent) between them can fill in all across the back (preferably not cb though) and everywhere in midfield (bar possibly the left). that is incredibly useful.

Dannyo, the problem with Ober is he doesnt have the quickest footballing brain so he cant easily pick a pass/extricate himself when surrounded. But play the ball ahead of him and you’ll see him flourish.

This is why the forward role would better suit him,his off the ball movement is good too so this will benefit the likes of Cabaye,HBA who love to pick a killer pass.

Against arse we didnt have enough of the ball for this to work well but aginst Norwich where we’ll surely dominate play,it wouldnt hurt to have a mobile and willing runner upfront.

klatoon – cant argue with your reasoning their mate!
would like to see cisse though, norwich are attacking, and concede a lot of chances (tho make a fair few chances themselves) and i honestly think cisse would get a couple of goals! be a fantastic statement of intent from pardew to line up with ba, cisse and ben arfa in the same side!

    How are you doing, Ed?

I just have to say I was pleasantly surprised with how Perch performed against Arsenal. I thought Theo Walcott was going to run in circles around him, but for whatever reason Arsenal changed its focus from the right side to becoming more balanced.

Did Wenger assume that it was just as easy to get past Simpson with Kieran Gibbs as it was getting past Perch with Walcott? If so, that’s really interesting!

Jayphoto very true about having Ba Cisse HBA on the pitch, very tasty prospect that.

Noticed alot of Perch praise lately and i admit every time he goes into a tackle i get this feeling he’ll win/emerge with the ball. Saw the stats and they back this up,he’s one of our most effective tacklers.

I think Williamson is terrible, worst CB we have IMO.

He hates receiving the ball and as soon as he does he hoofs it up. When any of our players have the ball and he is in space if you watch him he always points towards Krul as if to say “dont pass it to me, give it to Krul”

I just dont rate him atall and although i never thought id say this; I would rather have Perch at the back.

Martoon – again, my head obviously is telling me to keep Perch away from the CB position, but Williamson is a liability i feel. Due to the lack of cover this is why it is a problem, as they are both woeful at CB.

I think if we gave Taylor a pair of crutches and told him to play he would still do a better job 😉

Agreed Toon_Tom – we are starting to pay the price of not getting in a CB in January. It surely would have been worth it to splash a little more on, say, Mariappa for the amount we could earn from Europe, higher league posistion etc.
