Cisse, Guthrie And Perch All Start – Santon On Bench

As expected, Senegal striker  Papiss Cisse returns to the starting line-up this afternoon, as Newcastle take on Norwich City at St. James’ Park.

Danny Guthrie and James Perch are also in the starting line up, and it looks like Danny Simpson passed his fitness test today, but Cheick Tiote has failed his.

James Perch comes in for Davide Santon at left back, where he played in the second half  of the Arsenal game and looked solid, and the Italian youngster Santon is given a rest.

Danny Guthrie gets a start, and he looks likely to leave Newcastle in the summer, and he again deputizes for Cheick Tiote in the middle of midfield.

The Newcastle bench is full of youngsters with Haris Vuckic, Mehdi Abeid and Ryan Donaldson, who will leave Newcastle this summer,  all on the bench this afternoon.

For Norwich City, striker Grant Holt, who caused so much trouble in our 4-2 defeat at Norwich on December 10th, starts on the bench.

This is another important game for Newcastle, which they will be expected to win if we are to maintain our high position in the Premier League.

Howay The Lads!!

Shola is on the bench too, it’s Donaldson, not Fergy.

A few furrowed brows in press room over #nufc formation. Seeking confirmation, but Gutierrez expected to play at left-back.

Davide Santon having settlement and confidence issues, reportedly – makes a ‘weaker’ bench today. #NUFC

Not impressed with this at all! Santon should be starting if fit for his pace and composure. Why Perch!? We need a big performance from Cabaye, can’t go missing today.

Think it will be 4-4-2 with Perch slotting in at LB… but with that 11 id play a 4-3-3 with Gutierrez LB and Perch in for Tiote with Guthrie and Cabaye either side.

Suprised Santon’s been dropped to be fair, he gives us a good attacking threat down the left, which Gutierrez unfortunately doesn’t offer us …

or a 4-3-1-2 with Ben Arfa behind the Dembas.

But it will no doubt be a 4-4-2 with Perch at LB

Cabaye expected to start at LM today, looks like we’re playing without wingers if i get this right.
A much less chance of the game passing him by.

NUFC home page says 4-4-2. But i’m not sure if this is right with that line up.
Will have to wait for the graphics i guess.

Be a real shame if Santon doesn’t settle. I had read an interesting article when we signed him saying he has real confidence issues. Hoped he would have got over them.

That is the strangest line-up in a long long time…

On paper it does look like a 4-4-2 as Ed posted, but reading Dannyo’s post about Jonas playing LB, maybe Pardew has grown some b***s an he’s going for a surprised 4-3-3.

    God I hope so!

If that is the case. It will be interesting formation.

    Simpson-Willo-Colo-Jonas
    ——-Perch—
    —Cabaye–Guthrie
    HBA———–Ba
    ——-Cisse–

A formation many have been calling for but with different personnel. Will be interesting! Surprised about Santon- he got pretty widely condemned in the media for his performance against Arsenal but I thought he was pretty good really and used his pace to cope withWalcott!

Official site saying Jonas is LB and Cabaye LM/Wing

Perch & Guthrie in the middle.

Really looking forward to seeing Guti a LB……

Hope we go for the 4-3-3 that Beattie25 outlines above as I dont fancy Cabaye at LM.

Hope Santon can settle, looks great, just needs some polishing. He is meant to be very good friends with Ballotelli so I wonder what exactly is the ‘settlement’ problem. Plus I dont think he has looked low in confidence in any game I have seen him play.

simpson player better then santon VS arsenal… santon seems to have comunication probems with jonas so santon wud of been move to RB and santon likes to attack… so with Ben arfa and santon on the right… we wouldnt of had a defense…

jonas is a great LB its cabaye LW that confuses me
