Poll: Can Newcastle Make Top Six This Season?

With 10 games to go – starting this afternoon with Norwich City – we think we have an outside chance of finishing in the top six in the league table.

We have five home games to go against Norwich, Liverpool, Bolton, Stoke City and Manchester City,  and it will be how we do in those games that will probably decide whether we make top six or not.

Our five remaining road games are at West Brom, Swansea, Chelsea, Wigan and Everton.

It’s almost certain this season  that Newcastle would qualify for the Europa League in 6th position, and the teams chasing us for that spot include Liverpool, who have a rather easy run-in to the season and are 2 points behind the Magpies,  but with a much better goal difference.

A fast rising Swansea, and Sunderland are next in the table, 5 and 7 points behind us respectively.

In our recent poll on whether Newcastle should unload Nile Ranger this summer,  70% think we should with 9% not sure.

Let us know what you think in our new poll.

Why would we qualify for Europe if we finished 6th? Why is that almost certain?

    That’s not true.

@TDS True. Even if we finish 7th it will depend on the FA Cup winner.

You constantly talk about Arsenal, you often critisize the posts and more often than not refer to Newcastle fans as ‘Newcastle fans’ rather than ‘us’!

I am sure you are not really a toon fan?!

@TDS Sorry, I meant to say your post was true not that if we finish 6th we’ll qualify for Europe

Watch your mouth lad, TDS has been here longer than many of us, u included. Take your self down a few notches, u write like people should seek your approval first.
    Stop it.

On the 3 Danny’s that may be leaving, the only one I’d keep is probably the only one that will more than likely leave, Mr. Guthrie.

Whilst I am all for importingforeign quality I do hope we manage to entice some good English youngsters in the Summer.

Steven Caulker, Nathan Clyne, Jay Rodriguez etc…

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Paradox when you tell someone they ‘write like people should seek your approval first.’ and then tell me to stop it.

It doesn’t matter how long a poster has blogged it is thier content I am interested in and I just found the last few posts from TDS a little disconcerting and asked him a fair question.

You should stick to reading the posts firsts berfore leaping into action to protect your fellow ‘i’ve been here longer than you’ brigade.

We really need to win today, it’s a hard task if we don’t pick up 3 points against teams like Norwich!!!!! Biggest game off the season for me!!!!

Don’t worry about them Beattie, I’m sure some on here use it as a writing class – learn a new word and try using it on here, without thinking about their point first.

Do ye think we will beat City or bin dippers at home the way we ave been playing?
Swans WBA and Chelsea have played much better football than us all year, are we gonna beat them away from home?
I’d say we will be lucky to get a couple of points in those games and there’s no saying we will win the other 5
I’d say we might get 15 more points from our season
Disappointing after our season start really
The ,ost disappointing is that we don’t play good football like the swans or WBA have with less known players.
Even routledge has looked quality in the last few games

So, to summarise, we may (or may not) finish in the top six this season, which may (or may not) be sufficient to qualify for a Europa League spot. which may (or may not) be relevant because 70% of the people on here think we should unload Nile Ranger (with 9% not sure)

Oh well, I’m pleased we managed to clarify things 😉

    Nice clarification there Chris
Unloading gosling and Guthrie could be dangerous as we have a small squad already and ready replacements are hard to find with foreign players often taking a season to get used to things.
Many of our reserves look good but are not tested at this level.
Guthrie is quality n so is gosling but the gos hasn’t got into his rhythm since surgery.
Hoping for a good summer at nufc

TBH i think we have peaked too early and have now chocked. If we get a good win today it could set the tone for the run in. The way we have been playing I would settle to be above the Mackems and in single figures, then hopefully they can build over the summer for next season. IMHO I think Europe is a bridge to far for us at this time of our re emergence. JMHO though.

Of course we can get 6th place.

The teams around us are as inconsistent as we are.

We have more guts than them so … yes we can!

I dont believe we can because we ar so inconsistent. Teams like west brom (H), swansea (H), wolves (H), scumerland (H), fulham (A) and maybe at the time chelsea (H) we should be beating if we want top 6. If we didnt throw them stupid points away we’d be challenging for top 4.
