Alan Pardew gave an injury update this morning to the local Newcastle press.
Cheick Tiote – due back next Sunday
It appears that Cheick Tiote will be back for the game next Sunday afternoon at West Brom, but Ryan Taylor will still be out with his calf injury.
Alan Pardew is hoping that Ryan will be back for our next home game at St. James’ Park against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, April Fool’s Day.
The Ivory Coast international missed the 1-0 win over Norwich City yesterday, due to a muscle strain he picked up at Arsenal, which initially was thought to be cramp.
Newcastle had eight first-team players out with injury yesterday, but several players will be coming back.
This is what Alan Pardew told the local press this morning about Tiote:
“I think he will be OK for the West Brom game and we are going to need him.” “I saw West Brom on Saturday and they are a tough team.”
“I don’t think Ryan will make West Brom, but maybe Liverpool.”
And whatever the reason for Gabby Obertan not being on the bench yesterday, we assume the former Manchester United winger will be fit and available for West Brom next Sunday.
Steven Taylor, Sammy Ameobi and Peter Lovenkrands are probably out for the season with injury, but there may still be some hope that Leon Best and French U21 International Sylvain Marveaux can return before the end of the season.
If you believe Physioroom.com then Taylor, Ameobi and Lovenkrands will not return this season, but Leon is due back in training on 1st April and Sylvain due back on 7th April.

Comment #81@bob -61 – Both managers have more experience than Pardew and both teams had not just come up from relegation. We all know how bad a manager Dogleash can be and I for one will never want him back. I am not saying that this is what you’re stating but anyone who thinks Pardew deserves the sack is fu**ing retarded unless they know he will be replaced by a op class manager that is like Sir Bobby or Wenger imo. He is the best we can get now and for a long time and I am really pleased at the rapid progress we’re making under Pardew. We ‘re only a few players short of having an amazing team from the GK right down to the Strikers and even the subs look promising these days. We’re in the papers for the right reasons now and long may it continue.

Comment #82Bunch of bloody whingers at the top. It’s a sport and a business and there are 19 other clubs in the Premier League trying to compete and succeed too just like NUFC!
We’re in 6th place and the other 6 of the top 7 all have players on much higher wages than ours, can attract better players with regular European football and have spent miles more than we have in transfer fees over the last few years.
What the hell do some of you so called “fans” expect?
Support the club, enjoy the good days, drink away the bad days. If you can’t do that and you measure the value of a club purely on being the best, then sod off to some glory hunting club.

Comment #84Hi everyome. I’m a regular reader of the blog, i also read the comment but don’t often comment myself. ifeel i had to break that habit today however having read the comment from Beattie25. What a clown. you my friend are all that is wrong with Newcastle United football fans, a diluded halfwit. I bet your the type of fan they interview on Sky Sports News during an “NUFC crisis”, you know thw type, hardly any teeth and an IQ a chimp would laugh at.
we are 6th in the best league on the planet, we are grinding out results and doing well on a budget. i am a Pardew fan, i think he has a good footballing brain and who knows where we’ll be in 5 or 6 seasons time now that our books are balanced (as i imagine financial fair play rules may take effect) but thats how long it may take for the glory ays to return, years not months. remember when we got relegated all those many years ago (sarcasm), and we were set to be Leeds United mk2?

It’s Chelsea vs Tottenham/Bolton
and
Liverpool vs Sunderland/Everton.
I’m sure Bolton won’t beat both Spurs & Chelski, but I’d be worried about Liverpool overcoming Sunderland. I swear, if they get into Europe ahead of us I’ll go absolutely mental.

Upset seeing Beattie leave?
He’s got some deluded list over people he hates, how pathetic can a person be? That’s what u get from 16 year olds who cannot see farther then their own nose.
I don’t mind youngsters, but don’t talk about things like one has experience in it, cause he simply doesnt.
He’s not gone, it’ll last a day and he’ll be back, just u wait.

For 6th to be a Europa League spot, we need the final to be contested by two of Liverpool, Spurs & Chelsea.
Otherwise, the runner up gets a Europa League spots and 6th gets nothing. 🙁

Comment #96While i agree that NUFC are the biggest team in Newcastle, they have a million miles to go before they can be classed as a top team in the North. Most of the postings above could do with a job as they are obviously stoned if they think Pardew is doing a good job. Lets see if they are as enthusiastic next season when we are in a relegation battle and Pardew’s look has deserted him. If NUFC wanted to be a top team they would’ve kept Kevin keegan but he seen through ashley and realised there would be no gold at the end of the rainbow.

Comment #102@ToonDarnSarf -81- Right man. Post more often as we need more realistic and positive fans on this blog. It’s been hard to read at times and made me want to try other sites and all!-shocking I know. No seriously I am on this site a lot as I’ve always enjoyed Ed’s articles but recently when we’re doing better than ever negative comments are surprisingly cramming the comments section.
It is a worry as it seems many fans have too quickly forgot that we’ve only recently come back-up from the fizzy league and changed the players around and are still adapting to our league. Deluded you could say they are.

Comment #103bob – I don’t get the attitude? Utd and City have spent mega money on players and wages, as have Liverpool, yet we’re 3rd out of that 4. Isn’t that a good job?
Are you one of those fans who always want to see NUFC sign a “big name”? I’d rather have Tiote, Cabaye and Ba than Owen, Boumsong and Kluivert…

Comment #105That’s bad that the team finishing in 6th place may not even get Europe. I think they should scrap the idea of cup winners getting Europe, or you will have teams like Birmingham in Europa League again. It should be 5th 6th 7th place in the Europa League and then people would stop saying that the Premiership lacks quality because we would have good teams in it. OR Pardrew should really go for the league or FA cup because realistically, it is our only way of getting into Europe.

Then we get into Europe, because Liverpool are already in – from winning the CC.
Assuming that the top 7 remain the top 7, if Liverpool/Spurs/Chelsea contest the FA cup final, then we’ll get Europa League.

Yup, agree with that, we need to take this blog back. The ammount of crap that’s being said is unbelivable, and one can clearly see that it’s said by fans who are way out of their depth and remembers only a year back.
I’ve been a supporter for more than 15 years, and i’m bloody norwegian. I’ve not been to too many matches, but i’ve been there.
That fact that people want better football ahead of points just eludes me. We are a work in progress, AP has a past as a manager who likes to play short passing style and play it attacking aswell. We’re now grabbing all the points we can, and the style will come when we come nearer a more finished article.
Pardew needs atleast 3 years at a club this size to achieve somewhat close to that.

Comment #111I totally agree with you Bob. Under King Kev we played the finest football i have ever watched at St James’ Park a team full of internationals that struck fear into all of the premier league teams including Manchester United. This fella we have as manager now has never been and never will be a man to bring success to NUFC. When players of the calibre of Simpson, Williamson, Perch, Guthrie and Ameobi can command a place in the team, i realise we will always be an also ran. And the joke’s on me for being a season ticket holder putting up with this garbage.

Comment #114Glass half empty a lot on here.
Has anyone mentioned the incredible forward we have signed yet?
3 in 5 games, and all fantastic goals, they’d be world class if scored by Rooney of course. Could have had a hatrick BECAUSE he created the chances with his runs.
And he’s still settling in!
What a fantastic strikeforce we have now – Ba was unlucky not to score yesterday.
See, a positive post, it’s not that hard.

Tyne-Wear Derbies –
*Newcastle have won more derbies.
*Newcastle have scored more goals in the derby.
*Sunderland haven’t beaten Newcastle since 2008.
Fans –
*Newcastle have consistently higher attendances.
*Newcastle sell out a 52,000 often, where as Sunderland average 75% of their capacity.
*Newcastle had higher attendances when in the Championship.
Trophies –
*Sunderland have won more top flight titles – however since Newcastle joined the top flight in 1901, Newcastle have won more.
*Sunderland have never won a European Trophy. Newcastle have.
*Newcastle have won 6 FA Cups, Sunderland have won 2.
Forever in our shadow.

Comment #117Just shows how expectation levels have dropped when people think Chubby Boy Guthrie is a good player, the kid can’t last 90 minutes. He was only bought as a shirt filler alongside Perch, that disaster zone Mike Williamson. These guys wouldn’t be able to get into the West Ham team and yet we have to put up with their Championship style of football. And pretend they are premiership class. Haha.

Comment #120Like BBS I view avidly and rarely post. But 2 things prompted me to make a contribution.
The Beattie view is not one I subscribe to – plenty of other posters have described how we’re in 6th on moderate investment, good planning, hard work and the odd piece of magic (all through the team). We’re punching above our collective 2 season premiership weight. And as for the first Newcastle team playing mediocre players. I as a kid had the good fortune to watch Alan Gowling turn up, Glen Keeley anyone? We’ve always had them, every team does and even in the Keegan era no-one would really claim Waren Barton and John Beresford were worldbeaters? Perspective please.
My second point is a call to arms. Whilst the bickering smoulders on here (different strokes/different folks – no issues with points of view), did anyone hear Lawrenson on MoTD? The fat oaf lolls around making unfunny wisecracks that he has to cue with a weird nasal snort and what he mistakenly thinks is a wise grin (looks like a mashed squirrel eating a lemon) and then pretty much dimisses Newcastle as a team going nowhere but down, with a couple of gangly forwards and who are losing a bunch of players in summer.
Come on lads – let’s focus the barbs on that brainless gorm and have some fun. Newcastle don’t deserve unstinted praise in the media but we do deserve a fair and balanced crack as a team breaking up the top 6 with a serious shot at 5th. In the days of fair financial play we should be a case study along with norwich and swansea.
