Newcastle Linked With Top Young Netherlands Midfielder

Newcastle are said to be interested in 18 year-old Adam Maher,  according to the Independent today.

Adam Maher – AZ central midfielder

It is linked with their story today, that Chelsea are interested in Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote,  and that 18 year-old  could be a replacement for the Ivorian.

That hardly seems feasible, because for one thing Adam is an attacking central midfielder and 7 years younger than Cheick,  but Newcastle are interested in any top young players and Chief Scout Graham Carr’s remit is to find the best young players on the continent.

Once  they are identified,  Newcastle will then try to bring them to Tyneside.

Adam is at AZ Alkmaar and is of Dutch-Moroccan descent, and he is a right footed central midfielder who stands just under 5’9″ tall, and has a contract at AZ through June of 2015.

Maher was born in Diemen, just outside of Amsterdam, and he made his debut for AZ in December of 2010, in a Europa League game against Belarusian side FC BATE Borisov, and scored a goal on his debut.

And that made him the youngest ever player for a Dutch football club to score a goal in the Europa League, when he was just 17.

In 46 games for AZ he has scored 10 goals and has seven assists,  and he looks like a top player in the making.

Adam has represented Holland at U17, U19 and U21 level, and looks to us like he’s a top player for the future.

Here’s some video of the 18 year-old.

What do you think?

Sounds more like a replacement for Cabaye than Tiote imo…..

What is it with us & short MF players… why aren’t we looking for a few taller one’s who can get into the box for set peices & crosses, instead of all these short arsed players who expect the ball to their feet all the time.. lol

This gadgie is gonna be a reserve player if we get him, along with Abeid, Fergie, Vuckic etc etc… one for the future or in a season or 2 after we sell off the MF’s we currently have… not a direct replacement this summer thats for sure…

all well and good buying in all these youngsters but we all know they wont get a sniff near the first team for the next few years so its not one to get excited about

also, im watching the replay of the game right now.
    HBA needs some new boots!
he loses his footing twice in a span of a minute during the 50 minute or so.
he wasnt even trying to do anything flashy. he just falls over or slips on the ball.
the man needs some proper boots.

here here haha, i suppose the aim in the end will be to have 2 decent starting 11 set ups. would be good to be able to do what other teams around us do and field a whole new team for first rounds of cups and friendlies.

krul will be really difficult to replace though as the back up keepers we have dont fill me with any confidence at all. we really need to keep the spine/backbone of the team and build around them . if you look at all the other top teams , they have had the same backbone for years, just alternated who plays around them

Because… the best midfield players in the world are all short arsed players who expect the ball at their feet all the time.

What no new starting signing we usually have 2, 3 or 4(Ba,Cisse,Cabaye and Santon) year before(Tiote,Ben Arfa). I think Pardew knows he needs a full back(Pieters would be my choice) and he knows he needs a centre back, also a winger prefely right winger(Drenthe,Hoilett,Dyer,Moses,Sinclair or Boudebouz)

our short arsed midfielders would look much better if they actually got the ball played to their feet. who needs long hopeful high crosses all the time that come off once in a blue moon..

This young lad is going to be top drawer, have seen a few matches online and he stands out with both his calmness on the ball and technical ability – would be a real coup as lots of ‘top’ clubs are sniffing round this one.

Super talented youngster and already has Europa League experience with AZ Alkmar.
He’s an attacking player though, AZ plays with a 4-2-3-1 set up and he plays in the 2 withdrawn midfielders along side Rasmus Elm, he’s very similar is style to Cayabe.

Too raw for first team for a year or two on this evidence. So that means Tiote STAYS!

Tiote stays? And how do you know that mate? Dont get so attached to players, if we should have learned anything by now, it is that anyone can get replaced with the right scouting, and i have no fear about loosing ANYONE but Carr, Carver and Pardew.
